  1. I don’t want this to be political so I’m not going to argue with anyone that doesn’t like my idea but instead of the fist they decided to put on everyone’s jerseys etc they should have just put a LEO patch on....it’s a much more positive message and much more inclusive. That’s my bit. Great job coaching and it’s a great program that anyone should want to send their kid to.

  2. They mentioned during the game that Thomas Allen was already working with some of the graduate assistants and that he wants to get into coaching. I wonder if we might start grooming him to be the DC in a handful of years. Spend a couple years as a GA, move to LB coach for a few, and be DC at around 30 years old. Could start a family of coaching similar to the Wommacks.

  4. Allen seems like one of those guys who would turn down an extra million in order to give it to his assistants. I would guess we'll go to Allen and basically let him tell us what he wants. I think we have some decent incentives for different accomplishments, but I would like to see some of those upped. Those almost pay for themselves. More wins, more fans, more money coming in to pay for the money going out.

  6. Are we going to find anyone who will have the coaching ability combined with the connection to the state ever again? I say no. I don't think we could ever find anyone better for the job, realistically. Sign him for life, fuggit.

  7. It all depends on the coach. I thought from the day we hired Allen as head coach he would be great here. Some coaches don't have that same feel.

  8. This has been a f#%&ed up year. LEO is a message that should resonate across the country and not be limited to IU football. Allen is such an inspiration. I don’t know how a parent could turn down the message that Coach conveys. I don’t know how a kid could not want to be a part of what CTA is building. Guess I am a little pie in the sky but I gotta believe that IU football is gonna be a force, both on the field but also for the quality of young men being developed under the leadership of our coaches

  9. And Wommack is basically running Allen's system with some of his own personality put into it. They both learned it under Wommack's dad. I think if we do have to bring someone in, we would be able to keep the same system and Allen could help to keep it running well.

  11. @Billingsley99 That picture hurts. I have been my family's pet mortician since I was about 15 years old. I have been tasked with burying more than I can remember. But the family farm I will inherit has a special place for all of them. Sorry for your loss. 😔

  14. First text I received this morning from my uncle in the Northwest. He's an IU alum but big Oregon fan. He just said we'll take IU's DC and Knight will pay whatever to improve that side of the ball. Haha. We'll just have to get used to it and it's problem I love.

  16. Fouls, it’s the flights, with recirculated air, not driving that is the clearly legitimate concern, and the large family gatherings, also clearly legitimate as a demonstrated cause of the continued spread of the virus. People really need to stop the push back as we continue to hit record cases, hospitalizations and deaths and it’s only going to get worse in the next month or so before the vaccines get into public use.

  17. So do we go 10 year $50-$60M range for Coach? I'd like to leave some money on the table for our coordinators but they'll ultimately probably leave at some point. Only clause I want in contract for Coach Allen is a huge buyout number the first 2-3 years. Love Allen and what he's doing but it still has to be a 2 way commitment.

  19. So, I read in a comments thread on FB that some dude said the reason TJD isn’t good at shooting free throws is because his high school coach made him practice shooting FTs right handed. Let’s disregard whether or not this random person is reputable, wouldn’t that be a good explanation to why TJD struggles at the line? IF true that could explain a lot. Of course I made that up, but that’s why you can’t play that game and why @jv1972iu asked for the origin of this quote.

  20. I think we're going to start moving to a different tier of recruits. I'm sure the last 30 years, if we try to call a top 100 recruit, they would probably laugh at it. Now? They're going to start taking a look.

  21. HCTA is one person I would be all for giving a 10 year large $$ contract to. He has too much character and drive to ease up after getting a huge pay day. He has earned it and then some. IU needs to show him the love and make him feel appreciated and make him want to be a lifer at IU.

  23. It would be cool if Coach Allen earned all those bonuses. And shared part of them with his assistants. LEO
    1 point
  24. Allen also has these bonuses built into his contract. Decent chance he could get an extra $500,000 or more this year. $50,000 for being B1G coach of the year, and $100,000 for being national coach of the year. An extra $200,000 for reaching a NY6 bowl. $150,000 if we win the conference, and $50,000 if we win the B1G East. $100,000 for reaching a bowl, and $50,000 for winning a bowl.

  25. Coach Allen has said that he leaves the defensive play calling up to his assistants. However... near the end of the Wisconsin game.... Coach Allen said he called one defensive play.
    1 point
  26. It will be interesting if he is looking to get into head coaching right now, or if he's wanting to stay as a defensive coordinator. If he's wanting to stay as a DC, I think we might be able to keep him for another year or two while he waits for one of the top 10 or so big schools to open up. If he's wanting to be a head coach like DeBoer was, who knows. Tons of smaller schools look for head coaches every year, so those opportunities come up all the time.
    1 point
  27. We need to keep our DC too...definitely will be big schools looking to poach him.

  28. Also, I do like the evergreen clause (I think that's what it was called) in his contract that renews him for 1 more year every year we go to a bowl game. To know that you could coach here forever if you keep winning, and for recruits to always know that he'll be here for their 4 or 5 years will be huge. It gets really tough when coaches get down to 4 years left. Then 3, then 2. Sometimes they get stuck in that phase of not being good enough to get an extension, but not being bad enough to get fired. I think if we keep treating Allen well, he'll be more than happy to stay here. Also, he really loves the guys on his teams. I think it would be really hard for him to leave all of those guys to go somewhere else. Not saying he wouldn't ever do it, but I think that would weigh heavily on him.

  29. I think this is reasonable. I would think he would be agreeable to a huge buyout if IU made the commitment to him and his assistants.

  47. Two words: exponential spread. That guy traveling to CA isn't only going to introduce it to California. He's going to introduce it to everybody he's in contact with on the way to California. And the few people who catch it are going to introduce it to other people in their travels. Multiply it by the stupidly high amount of people who traveled last weekend. And we didn't even get into the celebration of Thanksgiving and their return travels. The more we unnecessarily move and congregate, the more it will spread. It's as simple as that. It always has been as simple as that. And this happened at very high levels this past weekend. As a result, we will see a rise in the next few weeks no matter what Brix, Fauci or the media says....or how they say it.
