If Goode is strictly a 3, then wonder if MM will end up slotting at the 4 some. Then you also have Tucker but he could probably fill in at a few positions. I'm hoping our backup 4 does open things up with outside shooting regardless of whether he is called a wing or big.

I just said they were unproven and they were unproven. We had XJ, who had played just 11 games the season before, Galloway and a bunch of players that hadn't played much at all or not at all. We also had an open scholarship. I think the opinion that Woodson should have brought in better competition at the guard spot is valid and foreseeable prior to the season starting.

They still have a shot to earn playing time but there should have been more competition. This isn't a casual church league. You play to win, not to make sure everyone gets a shot.

It isn't hindsight when people were pointing out our guard deficiency before the season even started and then were proven correct. Why should his job have to be on the line in order to put the best product on the floor or best depth?

Naming players that didn't work out doesn't really prove the point you think it does.

No, I would fill the scholarship with a project that I would hope develops and worst case scenario be a good player to practice against for a year. If he doesn't develop and we need the scholarship the next year, then yea, it would be a 1 year rental. But someone in that position would do it for the chance to prove themselves.

Do you have a link to those stats with percentage of schools that don't use all 13 scholarships? I would have guessed most schools use all of them. I don't recall very many years where IU went through a season with an open scholarship but don't follow other schools to know if that's normal.

No issue with being patient with it. And yet empty chair is unable to enter the game as needed. Last scholarship player is unlikely to see much court time anyway but better to have and not need than need and not have.

Never know how injuries will play out or how all the newcomers will do. Everyone on this board likely wished we had another guard on this team last season instead of an empty seat.

we don't need to to keep an open scholarship. pick up a sleeper to take a shot on if nothing else.

So is Goode a higher priority over Anderson? Goode: 5.7 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 0.6 APG, 39.7 FG%, 38.9 3FG% Anderson: 12.8 PPG, 5.1 RPG, 1.9 APG, 48.2 FG%, 45.9 3FG% Of course, Goode is playing against tougher competition, at least in conference.

His percentages were much higher when taking good set/open shots. He doesn't need to be taught how to shoot. He needs to be better at deciding when to shoot. The latter is much easier to fix.

Unless someone is missing above, we have 3 left. I would bet 2 backup bigs and a guard. The backup PF and guard will likely be good outside shooters

Having 2 players in the post that have no outside games clogs the inside and replacing Ware with Ballo makes that issue even worse than it was last season.

He would be better as our only starting post big. MM could easily handle the 4 in college.
