  1. Do what you want but why not go in with an open mind and not judge a hire before game one had been played
  2. To me build up the program is like building a house. The first thing you need is a solid foundation and to the basketball program that is the former players. If you just put your house on a cement slab or have a trailer on nothing that house will get knocked over when a huge wind comes up. With a solid foundation that house can take a huge storm and still come trough that storm.
  3. I hope for Lewis and Hunter and bring in a good player development guy to work with shooters
  4. Figured that would happen especially after they got a PG to transfer in
  5. Somebody has to do it because some of this fan base is embarrassing the rest of it. Like it or not the perception of this fan base among people outside of Indiana is not very good.
  6. I don't see what being negative helps in any way where getting behind the coach and the program can only help
  7. See where I disagree is that by no supporting the hire or administration is not fully supporting the program. To me when fans goes out ripping the hire is not good for the program. I think this is one of the reasons you don't see coaches clamoring for this job.
  8. Just remember that the NBA is the highest level of basketball and he was able to stay in the league for 25 years. If you are not a great coach or don't have something great to offer you don't stay in the league that long. I don't care to watch the NBA but have seen a lot of it over 50 years to know that in game coaching is a lot of about making adjustments and obviously Woodson knows how to do that. Just look at his time at the Hawks who is one of the worst organizations in the league and had them winning 54 games and going to the semi finals of the eastern conference. The time he got there the Hawks was the youngest team in the league and you can't win in the NBA when you have a very young roster. So those first couple of years record will look really bad but after he got it going his winning percentage is pretty good. They have not been good since he left. also the Knicks has James Dolan as an owner who is probably the worst owner in sports and was able to take them to the playoffs two straight ears after taking over a train wreck. The Knicks has been terrible ntil this year when Woodson came back as an assistant.
  9. I don't think anyone has said he is a homerun hire or that this could fail because it certainly can. I just think all fans should get behind the coach and the program and try to make it great again. I think the program needs total support to get back to being elite and not have the fan base fractured. I did not like the last 3 hires but I backed them until they prve to me that they couldn't get the job done.
  10. Sure will because I see that is how the game is going today. Don't get me wrong I love the 3 point shot because that is all I could do on the court at a high level. I just don't like relying on it solely but we have to be a lot better at shooting the 3.
  11. Well if Archie would have let the current players say out there and soak in what was happening then maybe they would have played with more of a purpose. I understand if you are younger or wasn't around IU basketball all of your lives not understanding what these players mean to IU. I just feel at this time when other hires outside the IU family has not worked it is time to go this route.
  12. I don't care for the NBA but it is the highest level of basketball there is and they are way more dynamic than the college game. Have you seen Beard's team play offensively because it is not very good and no better than Archie's offense. Also the last 5-10 years the college game is becoming more like the NBA every year so we need a guy who knows the NBA game.
  13. Might be time for you to find something else to occupy your time because you r act is wearing thin here. Might need to go back to rivals with your negative buddies and leave this site to actual IU supporters because you are not one. Like it or not fans like you are why the IU program is a place that the coaches you want are not willing to come here.
  14. I guarantee just as a basketball coach and the X and O's of the game Woodson is far superior to any of these college coaches you talk about
  15. I think if former players are at the game and come talk to the current team it helps immensely. They can tell them what IU means to them and how playing at IU made them the people they are today. they can show them what it takes to be great at IU and what it takes to win here. You want guys coming back and not just RMK guys but IU guys who are playing in the NBA right now showing that playing at IU you can make it to the NBA. You don't think it helps recruiting when they see former all time greats at the game or in the locker room. I look at UNC and duke who always have a lot of former players hanging around the program. I think having MJ coming back to UNC helps in many ways.
  16. That is why you just don't hire resumes or a run in the tournament. You hire coaches who fit the program and guys who knows what it takes to win at a place is more important than just wins or losses
  17. All the assistants at Duke are former Duke players and most if not all assistants at UNC are former UNC players.
  18. amen to that. Like I said I did not like the Archie hire but I gave him half way through his 4th year before I judge his performance.
  19. I was the same way with you and after seeing these interviews from some of the top players he coached made me feel better about him.
  20. I am not going to read everything in this thread because it will be to predictable from the negative people. Woodson was not my top choice but after Stevens, Matta or Beilein I was not excited about nay other candidates out there. I really never bought into Musselman or Oats because they are a flash in the pan to me. IU has tried the flavor of the month club the last 3 hires from outside the IU family and it failed so I felt it was time to try going worth an IU guy. So far the two coaches in the elite 8 is Tinkle and Few and neither of them was considered a huge hire when they took their jobs. I have been a IU fan for 50 years and will be one until god takes me home. I root for the name on the front of the jersey and that is how I will always be. everyone has their right to their opinion and will respect those but to the ones that say you are done being a fan then I say see ya. also anyone wanting to get rid of their season tickets you can give them to me because I will gladly take them, Some of you are probably miserable today with this news but I had a great day celebrating my grand daughters first birthday. I am sorry for some fans who take sports so seriously that they are upset and miserable on everything that goes on with IU basketball. Need to realize that sports are for entertainment and should not be life or death.
