Small poolside update came through this morning. Hope you all are having a great summer.

Per conversation, JHS is the best guard on the team and it’s not even close.

Malik Reneau is better than Race all over the board. Kaleb Banks also.

Talk about Bates was good as well.

My take after that info, this is Woodsons deal to screw up. This is one of the better assembled teams as IU has had in a long time. As long as he puts the best 5 on the floor no matter their age/year, the trajectory is up. Otherwise, future recruiting will suffer.

    I think it moved

I hope and pray CTA gets it going...but at what point do you make a change and go after a big name coach?

The Covid year is a gimme.  Then all the shenanigans, taking B1G of the uniforms and losing badly in the bowl game left a sour taste in my mouth. Last year was a total disaster, expectations high and the execution, was freaking terrible. If he has two more down years, his seat should be very hot.  I was never a fan of the hire in the first place.

How about that 12 noon kickoff for UCLA traveling to play Rutgers or Maryland. Geez on top of that the fans for these teams having to wake up and watch them….I guess mimosas and bloody Mary’s will be the new pre-kick off drink of choice. Hard to wake up at 8am and start downing coors light before a 9am kickoff.

    Wake and bake.

Enough to be "tier 2"? Top 6 in the county?

As in, it's "on level with Assembly Hall". I feel like that's a stretch. Who knows though.

It’s pretty good but not sure where they should be ranked as I have only been to games at ISU, IU, PU, Illinois and Iowa.

of this group, I would put IU, PU, ISU, Illinois and then Iowa.

ISU in tier 2? That would be a tough sell for me.

I don't see how we could be outside of the top 3. (Kansas, Duke)

I used to have season tickets to ISU back in the 80’s. Hilton rocks.  Especially back in the day when Missouri, KU & OU would come to Ames.

EXACTLY what I was thinking... I think it will be hilarious if OKLA wins the B12 and is left out because their schedule is crappy...

Give them like--- Kansas, UCF, Houston, and BYU every year. 🤣

If I were the B12 I'd make the next three years hell on Tex and OKLA

Haha.  I live in Ames and follow Iowa State. One of the things they are bringing up is the scheduling.  Texas has never had to come to Ames in November in the cold.  The ISU fans are wanting this in a bad way. No more bending over backwards for Texas and ou.

I know this is the experience thread, and I'm all on-board with that and agree that it is huge that we have so much coming back! No disagreement there at all.

With that said, I think a lot of us are sleeping on JHS and Reneau. If these were Indiana kids people would be so hyped. Going by rankings, this is like having Yogi and TJD in the same class.

I realize because of the experience returning that minimizes some of the hype, and I think there is an element that they don't get hype because they're not Indiana kids so we don't know as much about them.

But, I'd expect both to have a big (big is relative) impact.

I agree if the youngsters are earning big minutes and even starting, that only makes IU better.  They will have to earn it and that is a good thing IMO

I haven't seen all of these prognosticators pick IU this high in a preseason poll in years. What pattern of optimism are you talking about?  I also haven't seen our fans picking IU this high in a long time as well.  I have seen people say if things go right, we could finish like 5th in the conference, so I don't every see a pattern of optimism.

When the talking heads pick IU to finish 7,8 or 9 in the B1G and everyone on the message boards is complaining that is too low.  I believe you had IU slated around 6 or so last season but their were several and I mean several predicting IU to win it or at least top 3.  It will be interesting this year how the team reacts to all the hype they are currently getting.  TJD is not coming back to IU to piss around.  He is coming back to win and win big.

I see this pattern of optimism every pre-season.  I'll remain skeptical for now.  That's a big jump from last year for a second-year coach.

I agree with the off season observation.  However, everything is aligning up for IU right now.  Race will be a 6 year college player, XJ 5th year and TJD a four year and I am not sure if Koop is 4 or 5 years.  That is a lot of experience right there sprinkled in with the diaper dandies they have on the team.  I still say Tamar Bates or JHS have to come out and impress for IU to get to the next level.  I also love the schedule this year.  I am not a fan of playing all cupcake’s in the preseason.  It is way past the time to wake this sleeping giant and regain IU’s spot among the elite.  Hopefully, this is the year.

I like this a lot!  Only 3 returning players who were 1st, 2nd, or 3rd team B1G and IU has 2 additional who were HM and Mich and PU have 0.

Of the 17 players who were named first, second or third All-Big Ten team for the 2021-22 season by the coaches or media, only three are returning to the league next season: Hunter Dickinson, Michigan Trayce Jackson-Davis, Indiana Zach Edey, Purdue

All Big Ten honorable mention players who are returning (or may return in the case of one player): Xavier Johnson, IU Race Thompson, IU Jamison Battle, Minnesota Pete Nance, Northwestern Caleb McConnell, Rutgers Paul Mulcahy, Rutgers Cliff Omoruyi, Rutgers Tyler Wahl, Wisconsin

    Is Nance returning to Northwestern?

    Not sure:

I know before Berg commuted they were 100% adding a big man

MP so far refuses to pay recruits through NIL while guys who have actually been at Purdue get nothing

I have no idea if Booker is asking for best NIL offers but I don’t blame him

at least with TJD & Race they have earned the 💰

How long is PU going to be competitive with this type of thinking.  It is not 1980 anymore.
