  1. You're one person and you're probably in the minority in terms of paying more attention at the beginning of the year. You've already said you don't really pay attention to the playoffs, so this won't really impact you that much. NBA fans are already used to watching the playoffs through June.
  2. The appeal is that the vast majority don't pay attention to the NBA until at least Christmas. Everyone is focused on the NFL. The NBA owns Christmas and many in the media/fnas consider that sort of the unofficial start to the season in terms of people watching games and eyeballs on them. It actually makes a lot of sense, it's just a huge change though.
  3. I think what Adam Silver really wants is to do is just extend the season to August. So, you'd go from Christmas - August while keeping the schedule the same in terms of spacing the games out, and then that would be the permanent setup going forward. There will be pushback from the players though because they like basically having Summer off.
  4. I think they would. First, owners aren’t going to want the revenue loss of a second shortened season, and second the Christmas start is something Adam Silver has been talking about as a potentially permanent thing even before COVID.
  5. Christmas, I think. Even before Coronavirus, Adam Silver was discussing moving the start of the season to Christmas, so this is a chance to test that out.
  6. So sorry to hear this, Scott! Wishing you the best in finding a new job and hope you're feeling better! What a crappy time in our world. This will pass though, I know I'm doing my best to be positive and forward looking.
  7. Yup, the educational impact is real. Then also, what do you do if you're a two income household and both of you and your spouse have jobs that are "opened back up" but the schools are closed? Who watches the kids? How much does that cost? The impact is crazy.
  8. I'm getting more and more concerned about schools not opening in the Fall as well. Of course there's the educational and sports impact, but what about the impact to the middle and lower class? What if a lot of people are back to regular work schedules but their kids aren't back in school? Do you put them in daycare? Are daycare facilities even open. If they are, how are people that have already been impacted by this financially supposed to be able to afford it? It's health, logistics and economic nightmare.
  9. I appreciate the kind words and the support everyone! HSN truly is an amazing community. While scary, this will just be a blip in the road and I'm sure good things lie ahead.
  10. Best of luck, Scott! Wishing you good health and I hope the work situation gets figured out. We're definitely in some crazy times right now.
  11. Thanks, Fouls! I appreciate it.
  12. Thanks, Mile! I appreciate it. The real frustrating part is we had one of our best months every in March, then everything fell apart the last 5-6 weeks.
  13. Thanks, Scott! I appreciate it. I'm hoping I can get approved. It's a bit of a weird situation, we're a startup and I'm a very small investor, meaning that I'm neither and employee or a 1099.
  14. Welp, unfortunately the 50% pay cut just became 100%. If you know anyone that needs an experienced marketer (specialize in brand, direct-to-consumer and digital marketing) whether full time or as a consultant let me know!
  15. Appreciate the background. I knew some of that but not all, so it's really interesting. I think though coming back to the initial question on what Shula will be remembered for most, is still the Dolphins/going undefeated. While Super Bowl III might have been more about all of the great background you shared at the time, what it's most remembered for now is Joe Namath and the guarantee. I think when most people speak about that game now in 2020, the first things that gets mentioned are Joe Namath, the guarantee and that it was a huge upset, and while Shula is tied to the upset I don't think it's known as "The Shula Game" or anything. Maybe the answer to your initial question is split along age lines, but I still think the vast majority will remember Shula for his time with the Dolphins and going undefeated. I'm 41, so certainly not young by any means, but I also wasn't around for Super Bowl III, and I remember being surprised when I was a kid and found out that Shula ever coached the Colts.
  16. I'd definitely say coaching the only undefeated champion. When people think of Super Bowl III, I don't think many immediately think of Don Shula losing. Most go to Joe Namath's guarantee, and I think that is what that game is most remembered for. A lot of people probably don't even know Shula was the coach that lost that game.
  17. Funny side tangent. My mom once went on a date with Paul Anka.
  18. Absolutely. Pederson reworked the offense on the fly those last few games of the regular season. They switched to a largely RPO offense to suit Foles skill set and it worked perfectly. Pederson and the coaching staff were phenomenal and honestly deserve much more of the credit.
  19. Agree. Don't get me wrong, I like Foles and he was fantastic those last two games. I guess my point is as someone that is an Eagles fan, there's been this media misconception that once Foles stepped in that the Eagles somehow caught magic and went on a wild run. While it's super rare to win a Super Bowl with a backup QB, I get that, but as someone that watched that team closely, they had that "magic" before Wentz went down. Wentz was playing fantastic and you could feel there was something special about that team for weeks. As much as the media paints it this way, it was not a case of Foles coming in, getting hot and carrying them on some magical run.
  20. Yeah, it was more like they were one of the best teams in the league with Wentz. Then when Wentz went down it took the offense and coaching staff some time to adjust, and then they returned to form.
  21. Let's put it this way, before Wentz went down they were in the top 3-4 teams that you'd pick to make a run at the Super Bowl that year. When Wentz went down they were 11-2, Wentz was the favorite to win MVP and they had the best run defense and offensive line in the NFL. Sure, at that point you might pick a team with a more experienced QB to win it all, and then when Wentz went down you're not picking a Nick Foles led team to win the Super Bowl, but they were one of the 3-4 best teams in the league that year. Other than the QB injury, the were not a team that just got hot in the playoffs.
  22. Yes, that was the following season when Wentz got hurt again. Don't get me wrong, Foles brings a lot of good veteran qualities to an organization and I agree that he's worth a 4th round pick, and I think it was a good move for the Bears. I didn't mean to diminish him, I just also think people get way too carried away with assigning him most of the credit for the Super Bowl run. I know the quarterback is always going to get most of the credit, but that Eagles team was the best in the league that year and also would have won the Super Bowl with Wentz.
  23. I'm an Eagles fan, and while I love Nick Foles, he gets way too much credit for that Super Bowl run. People forget how good that team was and the year Carson Wentz was having. Through 11 games Wentz was leader in the clubhouse for MVP until he got hurt. Foles was awesome in the Super Bowl, so that obviously get a lot of the pub, but he was pretty bad at the end of the regular season after he took over and in the first playoff game against the Falcons. He then had a two-game magical run in the NFC Title Game and the Super Bowl.
  24. Thanks, @tdhoosier! Best of luck to you as well. Glad to hear you were able to secure the PPP loan. We're are waiting with our fingers extremely crossed on our application. It would be a game changer for us if we get the loan, but we're trying to operate as if we're not. The good news for us is that we are ecommerce, so we're working as fast as we can to pivot some strategies and get our digital advertising cranking, though hard to do without much budget, but if we can get revenue back up then we can get our pay back up. My wife is a paraeducator in our kids schools, so come end of June - August we lose that income as well as she doesn't get paid in the summer. Hoping my business can get cranking so we're squared up again before that happens. We'll see. Definitely scary times.
  25. First, I hope everyone that has been personally affected by all of this is doing well, whether it be health, mentally, financially, etc. @IU Scott, I hope you are well my friend! I posted this in another thread last week, but figured I'd expand on it over here. Me and my family got hit pretty hard last week when my company's board decided to cut salaries by 50%. Not a call I was hoping to get. I'll just give the full story, I run marketing for a small startup supplement company where we offer clinically effective supplements, plant-based protein shakes, etc, and we also give back where for every order on our website, we donate a bottle of our children's multivitamin to a malnourished child around the world. To-date, we've donated over 600,000 vitamins to malnourished children. Sorry, did not intend for that to be a sales pitch, just wanted to fill everyone in on what we do (though I guess that is a sales pitch). While we've been growing steadily every year, we're a lean and mean team, mostly utilizing freelancers and consultants. Full time we're a two person company, so legitimately a startup, though we are 7 years old. Seems odd to have a BOD for a two person company, but that's a whole other story. Anyways, we're eCommerce which is actually good during this time, but being small and in a saturated industry we don't have the ad budgets of our competitors, so we've built the business largely through partnerships with doctors, personal trainers and boutique gyms, athletes and influencers, which has been great. The problem came in when during this time doctors are not seeing patients and gyms/personal trainers are not seeing clients. We've seen revenue fall by over 30%. Not looking for sympathy, as I know a lot of people have it much worse during this time, and I'm grateful the 50% slash wasn't a 100% slash. Time to roll up the sleeves even more and get the revenue rolling again. I'm confident we can do it, but definitely a scary time. Maybe we can create a little mini HSN job board during these times? If anyone has a business that's in need of marketing strategy/support, I'm open to consult/free lance as I look to supplement (pun intended) my income.
