You mean the Brad Underwood who is 47-49 in 3 years at UI.  Archie's record in those 3 years is 55-43.

His team is rolling now.  He sucked a few years to build something. Where as we are a middle of the pack team now.

Hes finished above .500 in conference at least

No, we lost those games because Painter had his systems in place, what with being a longer term established coach v CAM who was still having to incorporate players from the previous coaching regime.

Oh Lordy this tired excuse. Guess that’s why Illinois is still struggling eh.

And if only there was some mechanism to reshape a roster quickly.  We did after all have 2 open scholarships last year.

    Yeah, that's not accurate.

    Going by 247 class rankings

    We had the 3, 3, 2, 6, 2

    Purdue 13, 4, 9, 8, 5

Between 2016-2020. But yeah keep pretending we had less talent.

From 2016 to 2019 they had 0 five Stars and only 2 four stars

We had 1 five star and 8 four star

We didn’t lose those games because we were less talented  We lost those games because their 3 stars out worked our 4 stars

I think this team will show how hamstrung Archie was with DG and JS. We had no ball handling or perimeter offense so we relied on hoping Green would limit turnovers and get hot from 3. JS was playing out of position and was our best defender and athlete so he had to play. This year’s balance looks to be much better.

He had years to fix that problem why didn’t he

I'm wondering if you are starting to troll now.  These teams with less talent?  Maryland is about to send two guys through the draft, beat this team by one.

Illinios had/has two guys that turned down the draft, beat this team by 1, on the road.

Lost to Wisconsin by 4 late in the season.  Same Wisconsin team preseason top 10 that return their top 5 scorers.

Beat Iowa, preseason top 5, has the preseason NPOY.

There was a lot to be desired last year in regards to mental fortitude, especially on the road.  I honestly think there were a few guys that just made life on the team hell.

I find it interesting that the preseason top 3 teams in the B1G this year, we were only separated by a total of 6 points in the last three games.  2 being one point losses.  hum

Are we that far off of them?  Add a #1 point guard in the nation.  Race, Rob, and Jerome got a full healthy off season for the first time ever.

Did I mention I'm starting to get excited about this team?

I do need to give you credit on the Archie saying big changes coming with actually zero changes happening.  Start a freaking walk on for all I care.  Just send the message loud and clear.

Your citing teams that are better. But are they more talented.  Those coaches took guys and trained them up.  Purdue was not more talented yet whipped us

You're right, and I'm kinda tilting at windmills here, but...

There were 3 very winnable B10 games we lost last year (Maryland and Wisconsin at home, and U of I on the road) that you could attribute to either coaching or player chemistry/leadership. Winning those would have put us at 12-8 tied for 4th with the Whinin Illini.

If you choose the latter here, those excuses should be gone. Archie has pretty much his team now, If you choose the former, well I guess we'll see more of that this year...

I know it's hypothetical, but something to chew on...

The problem is we aren’t winning those games.  These teams with less talent punch us in the mouth and we cry in the corner instead of punching back.

Then Archie talks at the press conference about seeing some changes.  Yet the next game guys come out and do the same stupid stuff and it just repeats.

So in the big ten we were 9-11 so that is just two games

Below .500 is below .500. Archie is the second highest paid coach with a more than large enough recruiting.

Those two games had us 11th in the big ten.  11th in the Big Ten should not be acceptable

I would think more highly of Miller if he had won 74.2% of games overall and 60% in conference last year as opposed to 64.5% and 45%, respectively, that he actually won. I can't speak for Brass Cannon but, yes, that would've done a lot to relieve my doubts.

You act as though 3 games isn't much. It's 15% of conference games.

And it’s being over .500 instead of under it.  It means something.

Last year the difference in 10 and 4th was 3 games.  So are you saying that if Archie had just won 3 more games last you would have a different opinion.  It has taken a lot of coaches more than 3 years to get their teams into title contention.  Luckily for some very elite coaches the fans did not have a say if they kept their job.

I hear this all the time. How many coaches who fail to go above .500 in their conference in the first 3 seasons go on to have final four teams. Let’s stick to the 21st century as well  I am pretty sure the answer is 1 coach

If this such a hard thing to ask a coach to do how come Illinois and Ohio State could do it Michigan poised to do it  Greg Gard has done it 4 of his first 5 seasons

Being above .500 isn’t a hard thing to do.  The fact Archie hasn’t done it and doesn’t look poised to do it means something

Honestly, how much separation is there between the 10th and 20th ranked team?  I haven't dissected the other teams.  Know some of the top players in the league did not go pro.  It's a stacked year.  Honestly, being a homer, I can see this team surprising.  Can and will Jerome, Armaan, and Race make a leap.  We've heard interviews about Race already.  Thought someone said Jerome is looking like old confident Jerome(the public has never seen).  Armaan showed a ton of promise, not sure why people don't think he will ever amount to much.  He had as solid of a freshman year as you would hope the 151st ranked recruit would have.  Can and will Rob stay healthy and continue to improve without setback?  Lander was the literal #1 point guard in the country, right?  If Galloway, Geronimo, or Leal make positive contributions it will be icing on the cake.  I'm seriously getting excited about this team.

Don’t care about the separation. Archie is paid to contend for Big Ten Titles.

As of now we don’t look poised to do that till year 6 at best

I agree with you that Archie, and the team, should not be blamed for the 22 years prior to his arrival.

At this point, however, I don’t think expecting/hoping for a better than 7th-9th type of finish in the conference is “instant gratification”.  I’m not looking for a natty, and really like the foundation that is being built, but would like to see improvement from the BT records of 9-9, 8-12 and last years 9-11.  I’m curious when you think having higher exceptions is no longer considered instant gratification? 4,5, 6, years?

Yeah I’m curious too.  How soon are we allowed to hope for an above .500 record in conference before we are asking for Instant gratification. Crean was left with nothing and wasn’t a good coach and he did it in year 4.  Then won one of the toughest conferences ever in year 5.

Anybody think we are contending for a Big Ten title next year?

    Bangladesh:

    • 164,820,000 population
    • 3,111 Covid Deaths

    Illinois:

    • 57,913 square miles
    • 12,659,000 population
    • 7,670 Covid Deaths

That's not a good look for those who insist social distancing is the answer. Don't get me wrong.  I think social distancing is important.  but, I also thing there are other factors that are not even being considered because everyone is so caught up with the narrative we keep hearing from the media.

There are other things in play here, and people are dying because we are choosing to ignore them.

None of those stats have anything to do with social distancing.  You might as well say 2 + 2 = Green.

Why does the U,S, have 4.4 million more cases in Bangladesh?  That is the root of this whole discussion.  What is it about Bangladesh that prevents the virus from being as bad there as it is here?

I don't understand why you can't see the importance of that question, especially considering Bangladesh does not have the resources or living conditions that exist in the U.S.

Bangladesh hasn’t even had that many tests would be a possibility.

Could also be that they actually did stuff to contain the spread versus reopening beaches and bars.

A quick google search shows they had a 2 month lockdown which may be a slight reason they flattened their curve better than us

I don't make shit up.  Bangladesh has a population of over 164 million, which is roughly 50% that of the U.S.

As of today, Bangladesh has approximately 235,000 cases, which is SIGNIFICANTLY less than 50% of the U.S. 4.6 million

As of today, Bangladesh has reported 3,083 total deaths, which is SIGNIFICANTLY less than the U.S. 155,285

Mortality rate is a terrible metrics when the discrepancy in cases is so large.  That's like sating 1 out of 2 people dying is worse than 49,999 out of 100,000.

Dr. Fauci needs to explain to the U.S. population why a country like Bangladesh, with not nearly the resources of the U.S., and on teh surface, a society that would be harder to social distance, has so fewer cases than us.

That is information we need to know.

What does he have to explain they social distanced we didn’t?  It’s not his fault people are standing for their freedom by infecting others.

Fauci makes recommendations not policy.  And none of his recommendations were listened to

Confirmed cases is a meaningless metric.  We are 7+ months into this thing and have been told how so contagious it is. The actual number of cases is likely 10 times higher or more.

    IFR study.

Ok. Well then we don’t know if Bangladesh has a higher or lower death rate

  16. 5 hours ago, mrflynn03 said:

It's a very good question and something that needs investigated.

Well it’s also not accurate. If the confirmed cases Bangladesh has about a 2.5% mortality in resolved cases.

Lot of HCQ info in here-

Basically saying lot of positives for HCQ and negative studies are flawed. Just no definitive RCT yet. Country data shows HCQ is effective. Includes links to the underlying research. Why are shutting down speech on this topic?

Wow that’s like terrible data analysis and without even an in depth fact check you know that it’s not being honest because it has France in the no HCQ category. That it’s reliant on the case count by confirmed test which several countries have admitted they couldn’t get testing capacity up and running.

But yes dude on Twitter not the dozens of PhDs that have looked at the topic

That must be a regional thing because when I tested (negative), it was same day and I had the results in 48 hours. My wife went to the Dr yesterday (I took her) and there was a line under the drop off overhang where they were conducting drive through tests with a 24 hour result...

Certainly a factor I would say. Told my wife I should have driven to Illinois to get tested. My father in law got tested since I did and already has his results back. Came back negative which I am relieved about.

We had to visit a few weeks ago.

If I have it my guess would be from one of the two dozen contractors I have had to argue with wearing a mask at work.

  18. 11 hours ago, Hoosierhoopster said:

After the spikes all over the country we're now seeing relatively reduced rates of new covid infections because of the new and renewed mask wearing and social distancing, etc. protocols. In Texas, we just hit double the number of deaths in nursing homes in the past month. That's not consistent with deaths going down because lower age population exposure, which is just conjecture. But again the death rate lags infections which spiked heavily here (and Florida, etc.), so the increase is to be expected, just as improvement in reduced number of deaths should follow reduced numbers of new cases, as we have state-ordered mask and social distancing protocols now in place.

I tend to think the lack of an increase in cases is more a result of not having the testing capability. I’m on day 6 of waiting for results.  Seems there’s a bottleneck

May I suggest just painting the ceiling flat black.  Everything.  Joists, underside of sheathing, pipes, duct work, etc.

Good call. Probably go white instead. So it matches rest of the basement that’s already finished.

  20. If something doubles overnight it most assuredly is a spike?

In this case 3 day average about quadrupled.

    72, 86, 46

    followed by

    199, 211, 226

    Is a huge spike.

Headline on CNN states 'Coronavirus cases SPIKE in DC'!.  I looked it up.  DC reported 56 new cases today.  One month ago, on May 1st, DC reported 335 new cases.  It's unbelievable the lengths the press will go to in order to misinform.

    https://covid19.healthdata.org/united-states-of-america/district-of-columbia

Spikes are determined by comparing the data to the previous iterations.  You appear to be comparing it to a peak.

  22. I’m secretly converting the unfinished side of our basement into a finished side. My wife was stressed about the project as a whole.

Converting part of it at least it’s 18 x 25  going to leave 18 x 8 as a storage room

Got the wife to let me build the shelves for the storage room.  She’s agreed to new lighting and leveling the floor.

Next going to convince her to let me put in some floor panels that my neighbor can get me cheap.  And probably just tack some white cloth to hide the pipes

Once all that’s done I think I can convince her to let me frame it out and put up drywall.
