  1. I don't know who you're talking to. I have maintained all along that CMW would be coach next year. I didn't agree with the hire, but I always want them to win. I always support the team, but that doesn't mean I may not be critical of how they play. My saying that it would be unprecedented (not impossible, just unprecedented) for a 66 year old coach, with 3 years of college experience, to win a national title is a statement of fact based on actual precedence. It has nothing to do with who that coach happens to be. It's funny. People think of Bill Guthridge as being old, but when he took Smith's team to the FF in 1998, he was only 60. He retired when he was 62. Of course, he'd been the assistant there for 30 years. For Painter to take 19 years to make a final four and Gene Keady to never make one shows how difficult it is. IU fans were spoiled by CBK. Some also get spoiled by the one year wonders that get hot at the right time.
  2. He was 72. It was his twelfth year at Miami to get to his first FF. They made his first Elite 8 at Miami in year 11. Does anyone believe Mike Woodson will be coaching when he's 75? I don't think he does. “I don’t know, there are coaches that are coaching into their 70s. I don’t know if that’s something I’ll do, I don’t know. But at this point, I’ll take it a day at a time, a year at a time. I’m not going anywhere anytime soon guys. I’m just not. So I’m going to continue to build this team and try to put this team in the best position possible and see where it leads us.” Marshall coach Dan D’Antoni currently carries the distinction of the oldest Division I men’s college basketball coach in the country at 76 following the recent retirement of Coastal Carolina coach Cliff Ellis, who is 78. There are only four other active D-I coaches over the age of 70: Florida State’s Leonard Hamilton, La Salle’s Fran Dunphy, Miami’s Jim Larrañaga and Rick Pitino of St. John’s. There are 362 D1 coaches. Only 20 are over 65.
  3. Calhoun is the oldest coach to win an NCAA title at age 68, but he'd been at UConn for 25 years and already won two titles. He retired at age 70. Jay Wright retired at 60, Wooden retired at 64, Dean Smith at 66 and Roy Williams at 70. All had been at their schools a long time. Pitino is an outlier going to Iona when he was 67 and St Johns when he was 70, but he would never have left Louisville where he'd been for 16 years. Mike Woodson really doesn't have enough time. It would be an unprecedented event for him, at his age and tenure of CBB coaching, to win a title at IU in the next three seasons.
  4. If they win it all this year (gag), he'll be in good company. Pitino 14 years, Self 15, Coach K 16, Roy Williams 17, Wooden 18, Cal 20, Dean Smith 21, Tark 22, Jay Wright 22, Calhoun 27.
  5. Burns is way more skilled than Dainja. Point forward with excellent vision, BB IQ and a nice face up mid range game.
  6. It was reported during the PU (gag) - Gonzaga game that Painter attended a coaching clinic last summer. In it Baylor's staff (Baylor being one of the best shooting teams in CBB) gave a presentation on a 3 point practice drill they use. Painter reportedly incorporated it into their practices. They went from 291st in 3 pt shooting last year to 1st this season, with largely the same roster (just adding Jones). Granted their freshmen matured, but still. Does Woodson and the other coaches attend these? Asking because I honestly don't know. How intellectually curious are they about adopting things being done at other programs?
  7. Technically not a business (arguable), but still applicable:
  8. Here come the Duke calls. Horrible tech on Keats
  9. Filipowski: Overrated clap clap clap clap clap
  10. Barkley just said “if Purdue didn’t make the FF this year, man it would have been tough for them”
  11. He’s a freshman who played 2mpg this year. He’s done pretty well under the circumstances
  12. Lappas didn’t get the memo: “Edey got away with a little bit of a push off there”
  13. How in the world was that a lane violation on TN when Gillis was standing in the lane blocking out the TN player on the foul lane?
  14. IU had a Zoom call with him but never was able to get a visit
  15. Ridiculous. On one possession, he set a moving screen then cleared out for an offensive rebound and he ended up at the line
  16. He was using the Royal We. He’s working up to referring to himself as Bryson Tucker.
  17. Woodson’s strength is individual development of post players. His weakness is roster construction and a style of play that is attractive to backcourt players
  18. Illinois’ transition defense has been remarkable
  19. NC STs magical March continues. Went into the ACC tournament losing 4 straight and 7 of 9. Keats was probably going to be fired. They’ve now won eight straight elimination games and Keats was given a two year extension
  20. Right but the way IU was hitting threes it gave them a chance. SC goes up 4, a three makes it one. Foul again they make one or two and a three means a win or OT. No foul and Cardozo scores with 7 seconds left to go up 5 and it’s over. No perfect strategy, but Moren played it right
  21. It was the right strategy. SC went 1-2 twice, keeping IU in it. IU just didn’t hit shots at the end.
