But is he? According to state law, no state university can receive state funds for use in support of the athletic program. You can then conclude his salary is paid by funds generated by the athletic department itself, including sales revenues (tickets, merchandise, network broadcast fees, etc.) and donations raised by the department.

I think you can interpret from that he is an employee of the university, but not an employee of the state. Anyone being upset thinking he is paid by your tax dollars can breathe a sigh of relief, because that isn't happening.

I guess I assumed he was just from news reports over the years “highest paid employee” etc. Didn’t realize the state law prohibiting state funds from going to athletic depts, but makes sense. Thank you for that info :)

I wasn’t upset by it, just referring to it as one of the myriad of reasons I think he needs to go (as in, salary isn’t matching expectations).

This was the text I sent a buddy of mine when it was announced. I was never thrilled with the hire. But then there was promise early on and I had a lot of fun last season especially. This season wasn't great, the few good wins happened too late to matter, and recruiting is a real concern. But letting that upset me the way it has some on here does no one any good. It's very easy to still be happy when good things happen for the program, like some of these recruits we're about to land, and to hope for a successful coming season.

Definitely enjoy the happy moments, and hope for a successful season.  Great to see the smiles on the players' faces when they won those late games.  I was very okay getting upset, lol, because it was such a missed opportunity for the players who have 4-5 years of eligilibity in total in college, and really deserve the best chance at success.  Not to mention the $ used to pay the IU coach, as probably the highest paid state employee, the lack of professionalism towards the basketball program by certain IU paid staff & BoT members, etc.  I am glad I sent a (very professional) letter to them. I haven't changed my mind on the coach or coaching situation, nor have I changed my mind on the overall trajectory of this program.  If/when facts & circumstances dictate a change, I'll gladly do so. (Also grateful to HSN for the opportunity to vent & process.)

However, I do understand what you are saying, and it is what it is, so hoping for a fun year for the players & fans, and simultaneously a passing of the baton sooner rather than later.

My nephew is in administration in the Hamilton Southeastern schools..He said if they hadn't split inti two schools they would be over 6000 students

I went to Mt. Vernon, graduated in mid-80's, high school had about 750 students.  At that time, HSE had about 500 students total.  The area has certainly grown!!

I think some of it depends on if he is planning to finish school and get his degree or is the plan to jump to the NBA as soon as possible.  I hope he is thinking Student and Athlete but i would understand if his sole goal is NBA next year and not caring about losing credits or classes to transfer if it is the best for getting pro.

100%. If his degree goal is the NBA, then that's what he works towards for sure.

As I’ve said before, the best thing for the program is for Woody to get this pointed in the right direction for a mess free passing of the baton whenever that happens. While we all have varying opinions on when that should be, I think we all hope for some positive momentum this upcoming season to lead towards that ideal outcome whenever it is.

    Sooner rather than later.

My guts says he comes back, But i wouldn't be surprised if he decided to do something else.  He is taking longer than the other to announce his intentions, which is his right.  I am sure he is talking through what it would mean to transfer, get feedback from the Pros and how it would impact him staying.  Seems like a smart kid. Was very good as a freshman and i assume will be even better next year as he matures, learns and develops more skills.  Is he a 3 or a 4 is a big question for him to determine what he wants to do. I really like the kid and hope he comes back.

I think your point of what it would mean to transfer is a good one. But I think the complexity of transferring classes, deadlines, degrees, degree requirements, etc, is something that these kids consider and hopefully/certainly have help with. I struggled with Drop-and-Add dates & deadlines back in the mostly computer-less days of mid-80's IU, haha, can't imagine the complexities of today (although tech does help).

Some of the places i have seen NIT games in feel like high school gyms.  And honestly, the NCAA should require all floors to be exactly the same.  No Oregon floor, no Boise State football turf, etc..

That may make sense. The Oregon floor is 😳 and I would get lost on it 😂 Don’t remember seeing the Boise State football turf but will be checking that out..

Go wild on the logo, but maybe maintain a similar base floor color/design. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Floor size should be uniform (I assume it is), minimum perimeter required if possible & doesn’t involve building a new gym (grandfather in older buildings).

My kids played CYO bball at gyms in Indy or FW (don’t remember) that I think had maybe a foot allowance lol. A bit snug. 🤣

This one made me chuckle. See ya dad!

I have a bit of a different take. Having older kids of my own, I understand they reach a point where they want to be on their own. I have no issue with this. If I recall correctly, he also stepped back from basketball for awhile to focus on his mental health. Wish him nothing but the best!

yes a couple of years ago IU mgrs. were to play at the FF for the National Championship but didnt have the money to go. Dont remember the outcome.

Oh snap! I remember that but I didn’t know they didn’t have the $$ to go. That stinks! Next time let’s do a fundraiser for them.

Careful yesterday I was told to stop with the BS complaints we wouldnt field a team. i say play the mgrs. couldnt be any worse.

I found out a few years ago that the managers play against the managers of the opposing team the night before the game, and have their own league! Very fun. Love our managers.

When was the last time you heard of CMW or assistants hosting or going to a basketball clinic?

Does any opponent ever say IU is tough to prepare for or they run great stuff?

After watching darn near 100 games of men’s & women’s basketball the last 10 days it’s apparent there are some great coaches out there (Indiana HS too)

Utah State ran a bunch of 4/5 pick n roll to get open 3’s against Edey

IU had two bigs who shot 3’s at a high level…

I wasn’t sure which emoji to choose, like or sad, but I liked your comment because while it’s difficult to read (as an IU fan), it’s hard to argue against it.  Sad state of affairs at IU; I know there’s optimism within the players, portal, etc, but the overall trajectory that’s been discussed at length is just not a good one. I’d take Matt Painter in a heartbeat right now, along with Josh Schertz, and Micah Shrewsberry. I would take the coach at Indiana Wesleyan and I don’t even know who he is, but I know they’re doing well. I’m rambling and need more coffee, lol, but hopefully you get my point.
