Dakich is ripping the staff big time.

Imagine the worst member of HoosierSportsNation being paid to talk. That’s Dan Dakich. He’s that family member you invite to Thanksgiving cause they’re family and all they do is start fights.
When we talk about issues finding coaches because of fan behavior Dan Dakich has a lot to do with that.

That is what I am talking about with our game is that we lose faith and turn on coaches to quickly.  Since RMK left we had 6 coaches, 6 AD's and hundreds of players who we are quick to blame.  The one constant in those years are the fans and how quick we turn on them.

Extremely kind of you to call Dan Dakich a coach but I agree with the rest of your statement.

If they see fans already questioning the job status of a coach on year one, they will steer clear of this job.

Additionally, it’s not Woodson’s fault Indiana is on a 5 game losing streak.

Let it be known that I started the Illinois game thread which started all of this. If I had just not made that game thread who knows where Indiana would be. Please forgive me...

  4. Everyone is talking about that timeout with 90 seconds left and up 4 that produced a turnover. The truth is that's one out of a bunch things that cost Indiana the game in regulation. Free throws (left 8 on the floor), 8 billion turnovers in the first half, a dozen dumb layups missed...again,  shooting old lady percentages from the three point line, Jackson missing 4 free throws in a row, if you take Stewart's three's away this team went 3 for 15 from three. I could go on and on and on and on and on and on....

I predict many, many foul calls in this game.

I have a feeling the league is going to knee jerk react to the Wisconsin/Michigan dustup, and we have the next game.

And when you say "many, many fouls calls" you mean they might break the NCAA record for personal fouls called on Indiana?

If Rob is your 5th guy in at some points.. thats FIVE.

It's annoying how close we are.

We win this game with Rob and probably the NW game too. There's no way Davis puts up 30 and or Davison with 21. Additionally, the foul differential is reduced cause Rob gets less calls and also is good at getting fouled when driving the ball.

But if we're strictly comparing the talent level of last year's roster vs. this years, I still think the current team is way more talented and is a more complete team. Especially when you factor in the development of Race, TJD and Gallo and the addition of Bates.

Pretty sure last year's team would have lost by almost 20 last night. IMO

To me this all begs the question, should TJD have been more selfish and tried to battle through the scrum in the lane trying to get a shot off and/or hoping for a foul call? The refs seemed to let a lot go on the inside, but his kicking it out to open...uh,..."shooters" didn't do us a lot of good...

To his credit, in his post game, Trayce said the kick out to XJ he'd do every time because he believed in him...

Honestly, one of our biggest problems is that Parker, while a great three point shooter, is no threat to take the ball inside. Honestly, the only guard we have who is used to taking contact in the awful manner which is the BIG TEN is Rob. XJ, Stewart and Galloway aren't seasoned in B1G BS.
If our guards and wings could get to the line at a better rate I feel this could open things up more for TJD and Race. Part of kicking the ball out to a competent three point shooter is knowing they can fake and or if the defense closes too quick they will move inside. I don't think it's simply that our guards and wings can't shoot but it's that they don't draw a lot fouls when they get inside.

Regarding the end of the game I think TJD made the right call but if he had been fouled the clocked would have stopped allowing for the potential of two free throws and setting up a press potentially.

  9. Thought I would show how weird last nights game was...

So far there have been approximately 9500 D1 college basketball games this season. Last night Wisconsin attempted 29 free throws. So far only 602 or 6% of games this year have involved a team(s) attempting 29 or more free throws.
Of the those 602 games 394 of them had +11 net free throw attempts between the teams playing. Teams that attempted 29 or more free throws and took 11 or more free throws than the opponent won 87% of those games.

Another fun little stat is net personal fouls. Of the 9500 or so games played this season only 409 games have had a foul differential of 9 or more. Only 4% of games played this year have had a foul difference of +9 or more. Holy crap.

Wisconsin has been in 4 games this year with a free throw attempt differential of +11, 3 games with a foul differential of +9 and 1 game with both. Obviously, Wisconsin won all of those games.

Indiana this year has played in two games where the opponent has shot 29 or more free throws. The other game against Syracuse doesn't really count since that was a double overt time game. Twice this year Indiana has shot 11 or more less free throws than the opponent. The other game was against Louisiana.

Additionally, there has only been 1 game this season that Indiana has out fouled another team by 9 or more. Last night was a statistical anomaly. Indiana either played horrible defense and deserve the foul calls or something else happened and you all know what I'm talking about.

Simply put Indiana doesn't have the offensive talent to deal with the free throw differential and foul differential they had last night. I'm not sure many teams could've won last night being called for 9+ more fouls and taking 11 less free throws.

Give Gard some credit though. Once he sees refs are gonna call the $#@% out of the opponent he makes that his game plan. Is it a game-plan for winning, yes, does it exemplify all the worst aspects of BIG Ten basketball, yes.

Honestly, the fact Indiana lost by 5, had a chance to win and take the game into overtime is minor miracle. F$%^ Archie for not recruiting one wing player, F$%^ the refs and F$%^ Greg Gard for playing ref ball and helping murder whatever is left of BIG TEN basketball.
