Loyola winning their conference tournament today would be big - most have them as an at large but no one else from the MVC so that protects a bid.

I believe most had them as an at-large in projections because they weren’t winning their conference, could be wrong on that…

Bracket Matrix has Loyola as a 12 seed so don't think they are safely in yet.

We went from 43rd to 45 in NET. Question for those that know more on this stuff. We have more Quad 1 and Quad 2 wins than Loyola Chicago...but they are trending towards safely in. Is it just because we have more Quad 1 losses?

Well they are also 14 spots higher in NET, even bigger gap in kenpom. Plus as I think I said previously, your non con SOS is really bad, #315 pre NET. Theirs is #44 which is really good for a mid major. And the road record as another poster mentions.

Also read some comments from the NCAA committee chair that makes it sound like they're going to be looking pretty favorably at mid majors this time around.

Unreal. Teams shoot 68% from the line against UW and 79% against IU.

Ivey was 17-19 vs Illinois, 3-9 last night.

Guess Purdue only gets motivated to play Illinois, they looked really flat. And Williams was absolutely awful.

Have to tip the hat to Wisconsin I guess though I'm not sure they make it out of the first weekend in the NCAAs.

Short handed?  Yes.  But the Bucks seem to have forgotten how to play defense.

Their defense has been bad all season.

Not saying teams should stay home with sub .500 conference record for the reasons you stated and a couple others...but my issue is where they are seeded.

PS....I haven't listened to Lunardi in about a decade. He (and Jerry Palm) have been consistently outside the top 50 and 100 for years.

Use Delphi Bracketology or Andy Bottoms is good too!

OK, well conference record is even less relevant for seeding. :)

B12 teams benefit having only 10 teams in that league which really means less awful teams and inflated metrics. Helps having all those conference games as Q1/Q2. Big Ten was like that last year but it's every season in the B12.

I'd really like to know how a 7-9 Iowa St team is slotted 7th in most brackets. What am I missing here? Sure they have a few quality wins...just like us.

Conference records aren't (and can't be) used. Unbalanced scheduling, plus it's data that's contained by just looking at a team's overall body of work.

I guess....but sub .500 record in conference shouldn't have anyone on the good side of 8/9 line.

So if IU finishes 9-11 in the Big Ten they should stay home while an 11-9 Virginia or Virginia Tech dances?

I saw Lunardi was suggesting this as well and quite frankly anyone referencing conference records should have their bracketology license revoked. 😁

Iowa really turned it on in late February.  not their norm.  Rutgers sitting there in 7th will be a nice win if we can get it

Schedule helped out Iowa with 2 games vs Nebraska and 1 each w/ Minny and MD. Road win at Ohio St was impressive though.

Ugh, had to cheer for IU a while back now I have to say "Boiler Up!" for Tuesday. 😱

  7. Kevin Warren is such a joke of a commissioner. 2 years ago he decided Alan Griffin should sit out for 2 games after he stepped on Stefanovic. And not only that, but a "public reprimand"! Here's his statement on that:

Now that "hostile and unsafe" environment that he was concerned about happens in Madison and guys throwing multiple punches get 1 game. Let's compare the statement for today:

I guess more learning experiences and teachable moments are needed In the meantime, if a brawl breaks out just make sure you don't step on anyone!

Then he is as reposible as the punch thrown.  Both should be suspended the remainder of the season and fined heavily. But this would be their 1 get out of losing your job free card

Didn't Howard use that up last year yelling that he was going to kill Turgeon?

Sports Reference has him listed as a guard...

And on a college basketball team, especially nowadays where many players are interchangeable, players are competing for minutes with everyone on the roster...

I'd think Illini fans would rather have Frazier run the point and give Melendez more minutes in the guard rotation than Curbelo...

    Curbelo has been terrible...

All guard are not equal. Curbelo is a PG, right now his role is a change of pace and to give Frazier some rest. He's also come in for Plummer at times because Phons is a terrible defender and teams have been attacking him.

Melendez is a 6'7" wing who's earned more minutes in the rotation subbing in for Grandison or Williams. He can play a small ball 4 at times but is really a true 3.

So again, there's zero overlap in their minutes.

Hey how about that Juwan Howard, eh?

I looked at their roster and didn't realize Plummer and Grandson was grad transfers.  They could lose their starting lineup from this year, so how will they be next year.

Plummer is a grad xfer but Grandison was not. He was an old school, sit out a season guy. Sat one and this is his second season playing for the Illini.

Yep I’m guessing they won’t have a choice but to bring in more transfers because their team will likely take a big step back next year.

Have already added a mid year guy, Dain Dainja from Baylor. Illini are full up on scholarships, so any other additions will depend on who comes back or not. Grandison, Hutcherson and Kofi all could come back but there are 3 incoming recruits signed already so....? Have a feeling this offseason roster juggling is going to become the norm.

They do have a good young core with Curbelo, Hawkins, Goode and Melendez but yeah it will be rough without more help.

Did IU win last night?? LOL!

Man I'm envious of both of your programs. While CMW is trying to "build a culture", what ever the hell that means, you guys just keep winning.

Just caught wind of that on twitter but didn't really read more since our game was at the same time. Tough to have that hit when you're trying to get an NCAA bid. Any news on how long those guys are out?

Yep it was about the shot clocks lol. Read about it on our website today.

Not sure about that scoring at the end there tbh. Def not something Painter preaches so maybe that was something Edey/Ivey just did on their own?

I respect the hell out of your team and saw that Frazier stayed way after the game to sign autographs for Purdue fans which is great. Hope he’s okay.

Thanks we were all very happy to see Trent OK and get back in the game. Not sure it was wise to play him, but...

Thinking more about the end of game, Purdue is trying for a 1 seed so maybe Painter just wanted to try to see if they could get that 20 point margin. 😁

Watched an interesting discussion between the Miller brothers and Ken Pomeroy. Starting about 26 min through they are talking about how great offense has become more important than great defense. But Ken does think Purdue needs to improve their D to make the Final Four.

I didn't watch their game but catching up this morning. Did Painter leave all of his starters in or something while Illinois cleared their bench? Painter/Underwood have words or something?

I think they had words about why the hell Purdue doesn't have functional shot clocks.

@Stlboiler23 Kofi was on the bench and Brandon Lieb was in along with the rest of the Illini bench. Edey was still trying to score against him and Ivey was as well. Not a big deal but looked a little strange.

Illinois and Purdue are pretty similar teams except they have Ivey, which is a pretty significant thing.

Yep that’ll be a battle. Then have to play Michigan on Thursday which is the makeup date after the original one got postponed when they were shut down due to covid. Busy/important week for us.

Michigan making us play 2 days earlier than scheduled....thanks again Juwan.
