I’m sure there were some the other way but even if it were half, 12 is still pretty egregious especially in a two possession game.

I don't doubt that your guys got hosed, but any honest assessment of big ten officials is going to find a lot of missed calls, so I don't really have the context to evaluate a particular number.

I was actually a little surprised to see the committee had us as the top 4 seed when they reveiled their top 4 seeds in each region. At this time we are in the same region as #1 Alabama.

The first 4 seed, too. I would love to see us climb to a 3. I don't know what the actual results say, but in my gut, playing a 14 and a 6 is so very much better than playing a 13 and a 5.

And sucked ass against how many teams not having their best players?

You give two examples debunking (which is laughable boomer, considering debunking is past your gen)...

Point being, how many one and dines guards suck ass on a neutral or home court?

I honestly have no idea what argument you are even trying to make. You think because a guy has some bad games he's shaving points? The fact that his best two games were probably against NU and OSU when we were favored at home don't seem to dissuade (feel free to look the word up) you from your argument. How about the fact that his worst game was probably when we were underdogs at Maryland?

I wish i knew why more teams don’t take advantage of 2 for 1 opportunities at the end of halfs. Perfect opportunity here.

This one was a little close. We grabbed the board with 50 seconds left, so we have time for two 10 second possessions. That's tight.

Did i see Epps bump coach after coach reemed him out.   Hahaha.   Their troops getting nervous.

It will be interesting to see what comes of that. On most teams, I would trust that the coach knows his guy and said the right thing to get the best out of him. On a team that had 2 guys leave mid-year, who knows?

When Trayce has the ball backing his guy down there should be more than two options when the double comes. Right now his options are  throw it back to the entry passer on the wing or a skip pass for three? Where is the guy flashing to the wide open spot in the middle of the paint?

JHS has made that cut several times.

    Cylinder rule ?

    Assault & Battery?

    play on

you can’t blame NW if the refs allow it

I read the cylinder rule to say that if I, as an offensive player, hit you, when you are in my cylinder, the foul is on you. That doesn't mean that you can't be in my cylinder, just that any contact that happens when you are is on you. I don't see the kind of contact here that would make this a foul.

That’s fair, I’ll buy we don’t know and it’s certainly possible the first tech was warranted, even though it was improperly administered.

Obviously we don't know, but think about that though. What coach Rosemond said was so bad that it should change the outcome of that game that thousands of people paid money to see, tens of thousands more watched on tv and 20 some kids spent their lives preparing for. But, coach said a bad word, so the other team wins?

Seems like technical fouls should be used to make sure the teams don't get into a fight and to make sure the refs don't get abused on the sideline. It seems pretty far fetched to think either of those things were happening here.

I believe that has to happen after a shot though, yeah? Otherwise a dunk would be basket interference.

    Part d deals with that:

d A player may have a hand legally in contact with the ball, when this
contact continues after the ball enters the cylinder or when, during such
action, the player touches or grabs the basket

That's an interesting point. Here's the rule book info on it and link to it. It doesn't seem to specify defensive or offensive in this section, so I'm guessing these are universal. Sorry about the formatting, but I'm lazy.

Section 15. Basket Interference and Goaltending Art. 1. It is a violation to commit basket interference or goaltending. Art. 2. Basket interference. a. Basket interference occurs when a player: 1. Touches the ball or any part of the basket while the ball is on or within the basket. If the touching of the basket involves contact with the net only, the official must determine if the touching had any effect on the ball which would rise to the level of basket interference; 2. Touches the ball while any part of it is within the cylinder that has the ring as its lower base; 3. Reaches through the basket from below and touches the ball before it enters the cylinder; 4. Pulls down a movable ring so that it contacts the ball before the ring returns to its original position; and 5. Causes the basket or backboard to vibrate when the ball is on or within the basket or the backboard and/or is on or in the cylinder. b. The cylinder is the imaginary geometric figure that has the ring as its base and is formed by the upward extension of that ring. c. The ball shall be considered to be within the basket when any part of the ball is below the cylinder and the level of the ring. 92 RULE 9 / Violationsand Penalties d. A player may have a hand legally in contact with the ball, when this contact continues after the ball enters the cylinder or when, during such action, the player touches or grabs the basket. Art. 3. Goaltending. a. Goaltending occurs when a defensive player touches the ball during a field-goal try and each of the following conditions is met: (Exception: Rule 10-4.1.h) 1. The ball is on its downward flight; and 2. The ball is above the level of the ring and has the possibility, while in flight, of entering the basket and is not touching the cylinder. b. It is goaltending to touch the ball outside the cylinder during a free throw, regardless of whether the free throw is on its upward or downward flight. c. When the ball contacts the backboard and any part of the ball is above the rim during a field goal attempt, it is considered to be on its downward flight. In such a case, it is goaltending when the ball is to

In fact it makes reference to basket interference leading to 2 points, so clearly can be called on the defensive team.

I will say on the goaltend that was missed - I'm not quite as convinced as everyone else that it was actually missed.

They mentioned the cylinder on the replay, but that is for an offensive goaltend. A defensive goaltending, as far as I know and can tell from reading the rulebook, requires the ball to be on its way down. I don't think the ball was on its way down.

I don't see the rule as saying that. Goaltending requires the ball to be moving down, but basket interference, which can be called on the defensive team, does not.

"Basket interference occurs when a player:... touches the ball while any part of it is within the cylinder that has the
    ring as its lower base"

  12. Hummel is pretty mild in his criticism of officials and I think it's safe to say he does not have a pro-IU bias - off the top of my head, I can think of him questioning a number of calls last night: the lack of a travel, the T on Woodson, the hack on Race that led to a turnover, a missed out of bounds call in the 1st, body contact as TJD went up; the only one he mentioned in our favor was the goal-tend call.

Barring a shocking turn of events, JHS will absolutely get a solid look in the NBA.

That said, if he were to stay another year and put together a more consistent string of performances, it might elevate him into the High Lottery. Or maybe I'm just trying to convince myself of that because I selfishly want him back for another season.

I'm not saying he won't make it there eventually, he obviously has a lot of skill, but if you're an NBA team, particularly one picking outside of the lottery, so presumably in a good spot to make the play-offs, what do you want JHS doing? The only thing I see him do at an elite level is create jump shots for himself, and while he's great and getting them, he only college okay at making them. If I'm an NBA team trying to make a playoff run, I do not want to spend a possession for JHS to take a mid-range jump shot.

A lot can change in a year, but I just don't see why he is a one-and-done guy. He's not NBA ready and he doesn't have the speed and jumping ability that makes NBA teams over look lack of readiness and take him anyway. I'll certainly concede that people who make mock drafts spend more time on these things than I do, but I just don't see it.
