  1. Lol. No matter how “nice” Purdue fans and posters are, it always eventually comes back to this, doesn’t it? Just for the record—and I can’t speak for the younger generations—those of us my age (pushing 60) and older are not jealous. I’ve seen IU win 3 championships and go to 5 Final Fours (I don’t remember the ‘73 Final Four). For those too young to have witnessed those, maybe there is some jealousy. Only they know. But the thing for us older folks, we understand that even elite programs have down periods. Kansas stunk when I was a kid until Larry Brown brought them back. Alabama football was down for quite a while. UCLA basketball. It happens. No doubt, Purdue is really good this year. Better than last year. They could win it all. But they entered this season with only two consecutive 20-win seasons, just like us. But one would never guess that from all the talk. When you have 50 years of college basketball in your memory bank, the past couple years seem like 5 minutes. It doesn’t really move the needle, as folks here like to say. To me, the comparison to Alabama football is instructive. Alabama went through many coaches over a couple decades. Auburn, their rival, got to talk some smack for a while. They even won a title. I think we all know when Indiana decides to pull its head out of its hind-end like Alabama eventually did, things will be back to close to the way they were. And I bet when that happens, Purdue is going to realize what an opportunity they missed. Because at least Auburn won a championship.
  2. No, a 2-point difference in one game is going to change a team's rating by about 0.000001. In other words, no effect at all.
  3. I certainly hope Quinn will step aside now and let Dolson do his job.
  4. Yeah, I thought (hoped) Crean would be able to recruit well enough here to avoid those valleys, but he just wasn’t able to. Archie, I had watched him coach enough at Dayton to know he wasn’t anything special. That being said, I thought he’d have more success here than he did. Woodson, I just didn’t understand the hire, especially when the program needed so much more. They sold me for a while with Fife, Matta, and the promise of a modern NBA-style system, but, of course, that never materialized.
  5. Should be a great game. I’m saying Luers by 1. Maybe. lol.
  6. Hopefully Sisley will at least hold off on a commitment long enough to see what the coaching situation at IU is a month from now.
  7. Is the reaction to Woodson not showing up to any sectional games a little over the top? I don’t know, maybe. But when I hear of players’ parents and families liking tweets criticizing Woodson for it, it’s obvious that Woodson’s no-show didn’t help anything. As to the theme that it’s “only one day of sectionals” or “only the first round of the tournament” ….. it’s a tournament. The thing about a tournament is only half the teams advance. If I’m a college coach and wanna make sure I see my guy(s), the first round is when I need to be there. Woodson’s already lost his chance to see Sisley.
  8. Probably takes a lot of confidence in himself to admit all that for a story in the national media.
  9. If he were that important, he’d know that “alumni” is plural and he is only an “alumnus.”
  10. I don’t know, but l’m guessing thinking highly enough of a candidate to put him on a list isn’t exactly the same as, after you’ve gone through the list, thinking highly enough of him to hire him.
  11. He’s certainly one of the last coaches with no connection to Indiana University who believes it.
  12. So, you're saying conferences should be ranked by the number of teams in the top 64? Or perhaps top 50 since that's where most of the at-large teams come from? (the remaining teams are small conference champions that can be ranked as low as 250 sometimes). The reason I'm asking is I produce metrics and use the average rating method and have the Big Ten at #2. But your method seems relevant at least as an alternative, especially if there's a way to account for gimme games that don't exist in the Big Ten, such as DePaul, Georgetown, Vanderbilt, etc.
  13. How should conferences be ranked in your opinion?
  14. I tend to agree with this. Just from Gallo’s body language on the floor, I have a hunch he won’t be back unless we have a new coach that wants him back, and he feels like he fits the system.
  15. I would add a demonstrated ability to recruit and develop players. That entails talent evaluation, the ability to recruit to the system you want to play, and the ability to piece together a successful team. Demonstrated player and team improvement with your own recruits. So not only am I interested in experience, I am interested in someone who has been in the same place(s) long enough to fully evaluate those things. And I agree that arrogance is a really underrated quality in successful coaches. I mean, you are basically telling players you know more about what they are doing than they do. You have to command respect to do that, and a little arrogance doesn't hurt at all.
  16. I’m not going to pay for it. But I do listen to the IU broadcast of the games when I can. Whoever it is that announces those games is excellent.
  17. If they would literally kill him there still wouldn’t be a foul called.
  18. I say this every year, but it’s a shame the Big 10 Network won’t really cover this sport (or softball).
  19. So, Dakich thinks what he tweets and spews over the public airwaves is more “ruly” than booing? OK, lol.
  20. Pearl has been interested in the IU job for 15 years. It’s nothing new.
  21. I’ll never forget how hard Crean’s first team played despite having basically no talent. I was only able to attend one game in person that year, and it just happened to be the only Big 10 game we won, over Iowa. The place was packed and loud, despite the circumstances. Still probably my favorite game I’ve ever attended.
  22. Not putting him on the floor with 3 or 4 other subs would also help.
  23. That definition only applies when you have evidence that the input you want to change has a connection to the result you want to change.
  24. If that’s our lineup, McNeely and the point guard will have to combine for 20 rebounds per game.
  25. Honesty, it’s hard for me to tell how quick and fast they’d be if they played with some fire and intensity. At times, there’s a little more quickness and speed apparent in the last 50 second of games when they’re behind.
