The only use I had for cursive writing was signing my name...and if you ever saw my signature, you might not recognize it as cursive ha.

Hoosierhoopster
It's funny, in my (IN) elementary and middle school education, cursive was mandatory until, abruptly, 7th grade. Then one of my teachers announced we were not to use cursive anymore, in school. So why require it through 6th grade? I don't even remember how to write in cursive. milehiiu
I went through all of school, knowing, understanding and using cursive. Long before it was no longer mandated. Still recall the cursive posters in nearly every one of my classrooms, including high school. Cursive writing is considered an art form by some. And has been proven to develop areas of the brain, for developing children, that can go unused, when cursive is not taught or used in the school system. It's good that someone in Indiana recognizes the value of cursive writing, and is attempting to do something about it.

Yeah, I think that's the main benefit of having to learn how to write it. You learn how to read it at the same time.
5fouls
I litetally can not do it any longer beyond my signature. My high school english teacher forbid me from doing it (before computers) because she could not read it.
