mrflynn03
I drove down to Garden of the God's in Shawnee National Forest in Southern Illinois for the one in 2017. Ended up on a backroad just me and the wife. For this one I can sit on my deck and be in the path of longest totality. Hoping for clear skies that day.
Drroogh
There is one of those dark sky parks about 12 miles away, problem is there is rarely a cloudless day?!
mrflynn03
Don't wait too long to get glasses. I did last time and had to use a welding shade. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=eclipse+glasses&crid=36MQN1R9GF18R&sprefix=eclipse+%2Caps%2C431&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_1_8
Seeking6
I guess Dallas, Austin, and Indy are the 3 largest cities in direct path of this total eclipse. Indy Motor Speedway will be doing something pretty cool. https://fox59.com/indiana-news/the-indianapolis-motor-speedway-to-host-nasa-for-total-solar-eclipse/
mrflynn03
Just about every hotel from Evansville to Indy is already booked for next year. 1

I think I heard this correctly on the news that they are expecting at least 1 Million visitors to Indy area alone.

Wouldn't surprise me. I would imagine IU or Bloomington would have some sort of event. Last time a town in Illinois had a heavy metal festival with Ozzy as the headliner. Even in my small town here there were people at the motel from Canada. 1
5fouls
Doesnt look like I'm going to be able to see it from my deck. Appears I'll need to drive 20-30 miles north.
tdhoosier
If you're close but outside the range, you get at least a partial eclipse, right? Like listening to an outdoor concert from the parking lot?
NotIThatLives
I remember a solar eclipse in I think 96ish. Pretty underwhelming and boring. Sunny day became like a cloudy day but at least we all got out of the building and I got to flirt with all the girls.

A partial eclipse and a total eclipse are entirely different things. Even at 99% its still not the same. Hard to believe but true. Luckily for you, you will get to see it if the weather holds out.
