IUFLA
Wonder if this commitment has any impact on CG3's decision?
IUfaninIllinois
Here’s my concern with Givens. Him and chop are pretty much same player and with their size I just don’t see them playing together on court at same time. Cupps just has that dog in him so I can see him starting next year. Cupps and Givens seem to both be 4 year players. If Cupps beats out Givens is he willing to come off the bench? The other issue we don’t have a backup plan as we appear to be all in on Fland and Givens.
Andrew
You need multiple guards who can handle the ball.

At least that is my understanding of looking at him being listed in those 2 positions and not as a CG. I've never seen him play. Yes I don’t disagree but to me you need a 4 year guy and a 1-2 year guy. Obviously Cupps and Fland fit that but Cupps and Givens don’t and if Givens is cool with a possibke bench role then great. Assuming Cupps would win the job.

I understand Boateng isn't a point, but I threw his name out there more to address @IUfaninIllinois's concern about putting all of our eggs in one basket... Between Givens (1), Fland (1-2), and Boateng (2-3) I think we're covering the gamet on guards... Add Newton and CJ to the 2 depth chart and I don't see a need for Cupps and Givens to be on the floor together much, at least in the near term...and there's always the portal... JcityHoosier
I know we need more guards for depth...but it's going to be hard for a point guard to come in and run the show with a sophomore Gabe Cupps...

I really think Cupps is going to surprise a lot of people with his hard nosed play, hustle and PG abilities. He reminds me of a prototypical, blue collar Bob Knight player....JMO
