2024 4 Star PG Curtis Givens Commits to LSU

Per The Daily Hoosier, The Daily Memphian is reporting Givens is down to a final three of Memphis, Texas and LSU.

At any other point in the cycle I wouldn't be too concerned. From all accounts, Givens was never near the top of the recruiting board. His visit was due in large part to his camp reaching out to be recruiting by Indiana, not the other way around. So in a vacuum, this wouldn't be a miss that got away so much as lower priority target that went elsewhere, as happens all the time.

But at this point in the cycle, it's a blow. We have very few guard targets left, maybe only Boogie Fland. Whatever priority Givens may have been previously, as soon as he showed strong IU interest he should have moved way up to the top.

Maybe he wasn't truly interested in Indiana and only wanted to visit with his Montverde buddies. Even if so, you'd assume playing with together with them would also have a strong appeal. Yet Givens didn't rate that possibility highly enough to include us as a finalist. It's a thin conjecture, admittedly, but maybe this indicates he doesn't feel it likely that we're going to land McNeeley and/or Queen.

It’s called leverage. By reaching out to CMW and staff his “people “ created the impression that we were recruiting him hard, and used that to encourage the others who were interested to step up.

Being the pessimist that I am, my first thought when I heard he asked IU to recruit him harder was "Up your NIL offer".
