IUFLA
A Whitey quote... "Down there (New Athens, Illinois), we've got more taverns than grocery stores. I walked in, threw down a bill and said, 'Give everybody a drink.' Nice gesture I thought, but down the bar somebody yelled, 'Hey big shot, your brother is still a better ballplayer than you are.'" Zlinedavid
Whiteyball: Leadoff man hits a single, steals 2nd, bunt him over to 3rd, scores on a sac fly. Repeat 8x. RIP

Born and raised in Indiana. I believe he was like the 5th or 6th oldest living MLB player.
BobSaccamanno
RIP Whitey. Very innovative manager. I am not a Cards fan, but he was great. Didn't he swap Todd Worrell (righty) and Ken Dayley (southpaw) in right field and on the mound at one point? I have a recollection of him thinking outside the box like that.

The last of "The Boys of Summer." I've said it before, but if the Dodgers were still in Brooklyn, that'd be my team...
