13th&Jackson
He (Cross) favored the Miami coaching staff as well as the program’s system in place, but especially with what Larrañaga represented and his player relationships. “I tend to gravitate to and get along with older coaches more than younger ones,” said Cross after a non-conference game this season. “I like Coach L’s values, what he stood for.” Larrañaga almost immediately saw the potential in the 3-point shooter, who had shot a team-best 40 percent from downtown prior to his dismissal. “Matt’s the kind of guy who’s probably not going to get a lot of attention in a scouting report, but he’s so efficient,” Larrañaga said. “He was thrust into the starting role when Sam went down and has handled it very well.” https://www.stateoftheu.com/2021/1/28/22254988/miami-hurricanes-basketball-2021-season-matt-cross-dismissal-jim-larranaga-watsco-center
dwtaylor1055
This kid fits what CAM loves, guys that are in the 6'5" to 6'8" height range but are lengthy and create havoc in the passing lanes. Allows you to play them at multiple positions. Just look at Geronimo. He was battling Garza and faired quite nice as a freshman. If Archie is not in his ear this would be greatly disappointing. We need a dangerous "Gun Slinger", a "Cold Blooded Assassin" that can be counted on. A 3 pt. specialist that opposing team dread facing. I do like the sound of Matt Cross in an IU uniform because it reminds me of former 3 pt. "Gun Slinger", Matt Roth. He was smooth.....
13th&Jackson
Just really curious what happened at Miami. This from a 12/3/20 article: “He’s a really, really tough kid,” Brewster Academy (N.H.) head coach Jason Smith told 305 Sports in a phone call interview. “He knows how to play. He’s certainly a throwback.” “[Matt’s] a tremendous, tremendous shooter. He’s arguably the best shooter we’ve had in the history of our program, which in itself is a statement,” he said. “[Matt’s] a tremendous three-point shooter, he’s very coachable, he’s tough. He’s gonna be ready to play from day one, even as a freshman in the ACC.” As for Cross’ role as a teammate, there’s nothing but positivity coming out of Smith. “He’s a great teammate, very well-liked by all the guys in our program last year,” he said. “I think he’s somebody that you’d like to have on your side. You’d hate to play against because he’s not going to back down from anybody. “He’s the ultimate competitor.” For however long Cross ends up playing at UM, Smith says to not a expect a “rah-rah guy”, rather somebody that “is very blue-collar, does his job, not gonna talk a lot or run his mouth. He’s gonna compete, make shots, rebound and play great defense.” https://www.305sports.net/matt-cross-game-is-more-than-shooting-hes-the-ultimate-competitor/
BobSaccamanno
Could I interest anyone in a forward rotation of Cross, Geronimo, Hunter, and Galloway? or a guard rotation of Lander, Franklin, Stewart, Phinisee and Leal? Parakeet Jones
We obviously knew about the 4 HS in 4 years deal when we were recruiting him initially. That must not concern the staff. I am curious what happened at Miami. If he checks out, sign him up.
Hoosierdave
I can’t speak to the recruiting process cuz I never went through it lol but my gut tells me the coaching staff is aware of him jumping around from school to school (they likely ask coaches what these kids are like on and off the court, no?) If it was something so bad, I feel like you’d be able to look up a police report...haven’t found anything of the such and sounds like Miami is a dumpster fire rn and morale is at an all time low. From a style/fit side, I’d have to look up the interview but I think the reason he picked Miami was that other teams were looking for him to play P.F. but he prefers to play SF. I’m hoping that Archie can convince him he’s that ideal hybrid forward we need to stretch the floor.
go_iu_bb
I'm getting Matt Carlino vibes. He eventually stayed in one place for 3 seasons so maybe the next stop will stick for this Matt.

Lurker
Restarting football? Big10 bb is more physical and should scratch the football itch. I say bring him in.

He can transfer right back out if it doesn’t work out. I mean obviously he has to want to play basketball but it isn’t like he is going to eat a scholarship for 4 years.

OGIUAndy
I say if he's interested bring him in. If he's a bad fit or not into, show him the door. We have a scholly and wanted him previously. He seems like a perfect fit. All shooting!!!

If that tweet is correct, it's not just location or team he's unsure of. It sounds as if he's unsure if he wants to even play sports and which sport he wants to play if so. A player whose heart isn't in it can do a lot of damage in the locker room in a short period of time. I'm surprised our fan base is so desperate for good news that we would be okay taking a chance like this (I hope Archie isn't). It would have to be very special series of circumstances to justify 4 schools in 3.5 years (we keep saying 4, but he's bailing on this one halfway through).

There’s also what, like 700 transfers per year nowadays? I like his style of play for sure and think it would be a great fit for us but 6 schools in 6 years doesn’t scream this kid is willing to trust the process with a program. To quote the Miami Herald, Miami’s coach let him go since “he had trouble getting through to Cross, had confidence issues and became detached when he wasn’t playing well.” Im sorry but that just doesn’t excite me, I want kids with grit and fortitude. If Archie hadn’t recruited him so heavily and you heard that quote, would you want the staff to jump into the mix or explore the field instead?

I still have no problem if Archie thinks he can work with the kid. Maybe he can play football too...two birds one stone. Honestly he isn’t a bad kid he just needs to figure some things out...that isn’t a red flag to me.
