  3. He is from Kentucky. One of the best kids to play high school ball in the state for a long time but he wasn’t a 5 star so Cal wouldn’t play him. People kept asking him why he doesn’t play him on a team that can’t shoot and Cal would visably get angry and says he has to earn it....despite his 5 star kids not earning it. Lo and behold Cal gets kicked out and Bruiser puts him in and the kid goes 7-11 from 3...I’m not sure UK has hit 7 threes all season in their 1-6 start. The Cal hate is very real in Kentucky. Pitch forks are about to come out because of all the talk he has been doing all year and excuses for not playing him.

  4. I hate how so many people try to save outdated jobs. As a country, we sometimes actively try to prevent ourselves from moving forward. We see it almost every election. One person wants to keep something outdated to help save jobs and get votes, and the other person wants to do the same with another job. I would like to see more programs and initiatives set up to transition people from outdated jobs to new ones. If your work is going to get taken by a computer, robot, or something similar, offer grants to pay for training towards a new career. Provide incentives to help people get into STEM careers that can adapt with the changing times. Start focusing more on moving the country forward instead of just moving the country along. I think a big part of that starts with our education system which I think is terrible. I do think one positive from this pandemic is that it has helped show what jobs are vital and what jobs can be transitioned to something else. I think we've moved forward in a lot of ways, but we still have a long ways to go.

  8. Now, you’re talking! I’m definitely into two channel audio. Nothing huge like @hoosier_exotics has posted. I wouldn’t last a day w/o being kicked out of our building with those two subs! My current setup is a Rega TT that’s pretty modded out, going into a Peachtree Class D amp, which feeds B&W speakers. I’m about to get a full tube amp that spits out a 100 watts (which is a lot for all tubes). I’ve also got a tube headphone amp that feeds three different sets of headphones depending on my mood. Besides beer and books, music is my big hobby. I’m at the “hiding albums from my wife stage at least once” a week phase.

  11. It’s a gradual process with KenPom— his metrics use last year stats, so at the beginning of the season they are next to meaningless, but as the season progresses they reflect the current season strength of schedule, offense and defensive comparative strength etc.

  12. Meyer wants full control. I dont see him going to the Cowboys where he'd be second fiddle to Jerry Jones and have to deal with Jerry Jones the GM.

  15. Hey Leather, they were tested for efficacy out to 21 days. Beyond that, they were not really tested or proven to give the 95% protection. Try to get it 19-21 days out if you can and not go longer - if possible. I got mine yesterday and they scheduled second dose exactly 19 days later - the 21st.

  17. Why would Purdue losing be 'sad'?

  18. 1) It will be interesting to see what Wellman's focus is. Injury prevention, speed/quickness, strength. What kind of ideas he brings to the table and how he goes about getting everybody better. I'm really excited about him having a full offseason to work with everyone. 2) I'm big on the Jason Jones bandwagon. I thought our safety play was miles ahead of where it was last year, he's our highest paid defensive assistant which I think shows how much we wanted him to come here. He's familiar with Allen's system, and he's had a year on the staff to get familiar with things. Then we can hire a good LB coach to replace Wommack. 3) I think a big part of it is our offensive line. Hiller is going to really have to earn his money the next couple years. We have a lot of talent coming back, and with Carpenter coming in next year, we should start to push teams off the line. Maybe not a team like OSU, but we should be able to run the ball better. I feel like our offensive line should have been better than what it was this year. With the talent we will have the next couple years, that needs to turn into a strength. I think Sheridan got lulled into having a passing offense because that was all we could do for the first 6 or 7 games of the year. I was disappointed with his lack of creativity to help make up for the deficit of our offensive line. The OL didn't help the play calling, and the play calling didn't help the OL. For the most part, I don't think Sheridan really moved the needle one way or the other this year. Overall, not great, not bad. Today was exceptionally bad though. No excuse for not running the ball more today with how well we were doing it and with Tuttle being hurt. This was his first year calling plays, so hopefully he can improve going into next year. 4) Hopefully everybody enjoyed this season enough that we don't lose anybody who will really hurt. Not sure what to expect from the seniors, but I would guess not many of them will be back. I kind of cringed today when they said Crider was going to finish his masters this spring. I was hoping he'd come back, but eventually you get to the point where it isn't worth it. If you already have your masters, is it really worth coming back? Otherwise, I'd love to see a couple more transfers come in that could contribute right away. Another OL would be nice, a DL would be great.

  19. I despise Purdue, but this must be the same officiating crew that reffed our game in Champaign last year...the Boilers have had more than a few questionable calls against them... I think if CAM played Lander a lot, he'd look a lot like Curbelo does for the Illini...lots of good, sprinkled with some bad...

  20. Because despite today's efforts it's worked so well for their football program right? I'm with you. Patience is the key in today's game. Have to have it if not you'll hire/fire 5 guys in 19 years.

  21. Not sure what to call it, but things are definitely trending in this way. Am not sure there is a way to go back to manufacturing and producing more locally, but I try like hell to support it. Local shops, restaurants, breweries are pretty much all we support. We are lucky enough to not have to go to chains - or even really see them. We try really hard to buy products made in the USA too - for clothing it’s really hard. Our bed linens (upstate NY) and kitchen bowls/plates (Asheville, NC) are all US made. It sounds corny, but we want the things that we use everyday to mean something AND put money back into a local economy. For audio gear, my headphones and headphone amp are both made entirely in the US. My phono amp - also made in the US. I’m about to drop a ton of cash on a new tube amp that’s made entirely in the US (Pennsylvania). We don’t buy books from Amazon, and instead support our local bookstores. Same with records. I also realize that our actions don’t amount to anything, but it’s important to try to spend our money locally or at least in the US. I know it’s easy to dismiss as Brooklyn hipster-ism but there’s a growing number of local companies that are producing on a fairly large scale out of the old Brooklyn Navy Yard. These are all new companies producing goods and employing local people. It’s damn important, but it needs support (tax breaks) from cities and states to get started. They don’t seem to have an issue handing huge tax breaks to big multinational companies that don’t even pay taxes. But that’s another rant. We’ve repeatedly said between the two of us that we are glad that we are not just starting out in the workforce. I’m afraid it will be difficult for today’s kids making their way in this new world. I also think today’s kids will figure it out, but I don’t have a lot of faith in politicians from either party to do the right thing. They seem to only care about amassing personal wealth while they bicker with each other. Sorry, that was long, but I feel really strongly about this. One of the smaller centers in the center I lead is focused on machine learning - I would not want to be a radiologist in the next five to ten years. Their jobs are going to go poof.

  23. Agree and I think it’s inevitable and I think forcing policies to prevent the inevitable is pointless in the long run. Honestly, it’s only being done to build up political capital. I hate to say it but we transitioned from a manufacturing economy to a service economy long ago, which makes education in science, math, IT, etc. crucial to our future. Interesting to think that this pandemic may have sped that up a little bit, forcing people into telecommuting, video conferencing, online shopping, etc. But I really think it’s a small ripple in the pond when compared to what other technological innovations have done or will do. 5G is going to accelerate this even further because now all that automation is soon going to have a power source. For example, the self driving technology has been there but it needed a stable connection to the network. You can’t have a bunch of self driving trucks on the road with bandwidth lag. As soon as the 5G infrastructure gets developed automated freight will be reality....and it will be happening by the end of this decade. It’s only natural to fear the change, but the ability to adapt to the inevitable is so important. Will we have the IT workforce to keep up with the demand (to continue with this example) for self driving trucks....or will we have to outsource it? This is the outsourcing I worry about. I think the jobs will be there, but we will need to have the expertise and education to fill them.

  24. Moving forward, this team is moving the right way. Big time transfers coming in, another strong recruiting class and another year to learn and develop. What do you think the offseason storylines are? For me: 1) What can Wellman and staff do. Beleive it or not he was a big get and never could really work with the kids like he can post covid. Many insiders will say he was an upgrade....and, those that left for Alabama were considered the best. 2) Personally never a big fan of Wommack. He showed improvments from year one, but many questionable calls throughout the year. IU did have a great D, but today showed that he can't "disguise" well with uptempo D's. This hire for a new D Coordinator is going to be huge! Huge! 3)Can Sheridan open up the playbook more after reflecting on year one and having a different off season? He will have three 4 star QB's in the room. 4) With the new transfer rules and eligibility- Who stays and who goes? Go IU

  25. I am rooting for Bears and Colts to make the playoffs, but honestly they both should have already clinched a spot so I'm not going to feel too bad for either of them if they don't get it. Bears gave away that Detroit game and played horrible for that month plus. Colts lost to horrible Jacksonville team week one and choked in second half of Pittsburgh game. That being said, if the Colts win and miss out at 11-5 I get their fans frustrations much more than 8-8 Bears (if they lose).

  26. Thanks! Just wasn't sure. Seems to me unlike many years the analytics will carry a ton more weight as proceed to tourney. You could have a few Big 10 teams (us included) who could be 9-11 but be in top 30 of Kenpom. Just curious.

  27. Imo kenpom and really all the computer rankings are probably more accurate this year early than previous because of the lack of cupcake fluff filling that teams normally stuff up on early.

  30. Edward Norton is phenomenal. A very underrated actor in my opinion. You would probably like a movie called The Score with Ed and douchebag Robert DeNerio. But if you want to see Edward Norton at his best watch American History X.

  32. It is hard to watch all of this kick and drive over and over again. It seems like their is no purpose to this offense. You get the ball and just take off with your head down trying to get to the basket.

  40. I'm with you. We do our best to buy locally and support our local businesses and buy US made products as much as possible. Bought the wife some kitchenware she wanted for Christmas. All US made. Agree US made clothes are hard to find. The Duluth clothing company is the only one I can think of. Am interested in what the companies in Brooklyn are producing.

  47. Karl Marx postulated this about 170 yrs ago. Technology and automation will eventually replace most labor. This is what the Great Reset is all about. These stimulus packages and stimulus payments are the beginning of getting us used to universal income. To the Mods, I feel like I'm responsible and respectful, just bringing a different perspective to what is happening.
