I think Archie saw the writing on the wall and used Lander as a show piece to save his job. It also shows Archie can't coach to the players he has, its system or nothing.4 points

My 3 encounters with Coach Crean couldn't have been more the opposite than that. He treated me as well as Coach Allen has the times I've been fortunate enough to speak with him.4 points

How on god's green earth do you have Keith Smart ahead of Yogi Ferrell? https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/keith-smart-1.html https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/kevin-ferrell-1.html Yogi topples him in career avg, assists avg, rebounds avg, A:T ratio, 3pt %, 1900 career pts vs. 760 career pts. Yogi was all B1G 1st team x2, Smart didn't make an all conference team, and Yogi was all league defense, as well. Yogi is 11th all time in the B1G in assists and 20th all time in scoring. He has the 4th highest offensive rating ever in the conference. He is also 4th all time in mins played total in the B1G. Yogi is much closer to 2nd then he is 4th.4 points

I think, and have heard, that Archie is actually funny and engaging away from the court. Very personable. Devonte even alluded to it in that podcast. He said him and Archie got along great off the court, and he liked him alot. The friction was simply about the game and style of play. Crean seems like a really good person, just socially awkward.4 points

Mods, Please here me out. I type this only somewhat tongue in cheek. To the dismay of many, some, a few....okay, me...there seems to be too much conversation about the Smellermakers (where are ya' @HTD when I need ya'? ) and too big of a concession made to keep our resident Purdoucher happy. A prime example being that the very first topic on the Basketball Recruiting forum is titled that a kid committed to Purdue. I propose that a new forum be created with the sole purpose of handling any and all conversations about said university. Only during game weeks would we taint the other forums with discussion about them. Any other conversation, and maybe we just let Boiler set up house there, would be relegated so the rest of us can choose whether we want to waste precious minutes of our lives reading nonsense, or as I say, stuff that "No one cares" about. Thematically, I would call the new forum "Plunge and Flush" a nod to Black and Gold and probably more descriptive of the drivel discussed about PUke. Given his penchant for the plunging meme, I nominate @FKIM01 to oversee the forum, essentially making sure we have no sewage leaking into the other threads. I humbly request that you consider my proposal. Certainly, the donation I made for the maintenance of this board far surpasses the value of any content posted on this new forum. Thank you for reading. Steuby3 points

Had to go over to the Port Arthur area (actually Grove, Texas) to have a huge, non-cancerous mass removed from our Lab's chest by a specialist. Dropped her off at 9 and picking her up at 5. Having that much time, me and my wife went down to Sea Rim state park on the Gulf. Not much there. Paid 3 bucks a head, and I feel like I got taken...anyway, here's a couple of pics... Water looks pretty terrible...like overused dish water...I did take a pic of this for @rico in case he ever wants to come here fishing 😁3 points

Just a reminder when planting tomatoes, plant them deep. You can plant them deep and only leave to top stems exposed. I usually plant 2-3 stems deep, about 6 inches, when I remember to.3 points

Completely agree on Archie. I think sometimes people confuse his dislike or more closed personality with the media as meaning that is what his personality really is. I'm not trying to act like I know Archie or have interacted with him in any way, but the guy has spent his entire life in the gym. He grew up in the gym around his father and brother, he played high level high school and college basketball, and has now been a high level college assistant and head coach for going on two decades. I guarantee that if you put Archie in a locker room or in a gym with a bunch of basketball players or high school/college coaches that his personality is completely different. The gym and talking basketball is his comfort zone, that's where he lives. Just because he doesn't like doing media or having the spotlight on him at fundraising events/cocktail parties doesn't mean he isn't super comfortable, funny, and engaging in the gym and on the recruiting trail speaking with players, coaches and parents.3 points

I gotta give @IUFLAcredit. Starting this thread has me looking back on past teams/rosters. I had forgotten about Ben Coleman. Great player at Maryland, not so much at Minnesota.3 points

Honestly that is a shame. I don’t wish ill on him. He is a nice guy from what I could tell. Has a good eye for talent. Wonder why he is struggling so much down there. I honestly thought kids liked playing for him.2 points

When you say 'lucky to make the playoffs' do you mean make it at all or get through the play-in? The Celtics are almost a lock to finish top 8 in the East. But it has of course been a tough season in Boston. I chalk the vast majority of it up to 1) injuries and Covid, 2) teams like Brooklyn, Philly and Milwaukee making some strong roster moves, and 3) Danny Ainge not putting a stronger roster of depth around Tatum and Brown. Kemba, Smart, Robert Williams, Tristin Thompson, Jaylen Brown, Tatum and Fournier have missed a combined 98 games (as of this morning). That is a lot of games missed from their top 8-9 guys. I think if healthy, the Celtics are still the 4th-5th best team in the East. They are better than New York and Atlanta when healthy. I like Kemba, but he has been a massive liability defensively and the knees are going. Clearly the Kyrie fiasco has set the franchise back. Ainge has also struggled drafting in the middle of the first round. He's actually done really well historically at the top of the draft and at the end of the first round, but those middle first round picks have been rough. Drafting Kelly Olynyck over Giannis? Yikes! The problem now is the Celtics have so much salary tied up into Tatum, Brown, Kemba and Smart, which isn't a very balanced top 4, and it's forced them to fill most of the roster with rookie salary guys. Ainge will need to decide if he can move guys like Kemba and better balance the supporting cast around Tatum and Brown, or does he see what Brown can get him on the trade market? I still believe in both Tatum and Brown, Tatum is a borderline superstar and Brown is a star. But I also see some of the same issues we're seeing with the Clippers in Kawhi and PG. It's a weird dynamic when your two best players are both wings that need the ball in their hands and like isolation. Edit: Just saw a stat that the Celtics top 7 (Brown, Tatum, Smart, Walker, Tristan Thompson, Robert Williams, and Daniel Theis/Evan Fournier) never played a game together this season. Not once were all 7 healthy/available for even a single game together this season. Edit #2: The top 4 of Brown, Tatum, Smart and Walker played a total of 292 minutes together this season. That doesn't rank in the top 125 of 4-man lineups in the NBA this season. Edit #3: The Celtics have had the most days of players in Covid protocols with a total of 167 days of players in the Covid protocol. The next closest team is Dallas with 118.2 points

IIRC, the story goes that Crean came off as pretty arrogant and like he was always the smartest guy in the room when he met with high school coaches. I believe there was also some sentiment that he was more salesman that coach.2 points

Sounds reasonable...but I imagine the girls' family members would prefer to use nothing but live rounds.2 points

When the United States brought back the death penalty in 1976, the first man to be executed, Gary Gilmore, was executed by firing squad. There's a excellent movie about it called "The Executioner's Song" starring Tommy Lee Jones and Roseanne Arquette...based on a great book of the same name by Norman Mailer. 5 Utah State Troopers with .3030 rifles. 4 shot live rounds but one shot a blank so they wouldn't actually know which Troopers fired the shots that killed him.2 points

Braden Smith may very well end up being a good Big 10 starting point guard, but.... We have 3 point guards with eligibility in the 2022-23 season. I don't think all 3 will stay, but it's probably the main reason the staff didn't offer him.2 points

Depending on what space you have to work with, I plant all my tomatoes in new bags of topsoil every year because my garden is contaminated with Ralstonia solanacearum which causes bacterial wilt in tomato plants. Have had good results. I cut each side of the bag corner to corner, an X shape patter and fold the flaps under. Kinda like origami. Plant tomato. Takes up little space and soil is reusable.2 points

Scott Skiles has to be on my Sparty list. He's one of my favorite college players of all time. On a personal note...Tony Wysinger was our camp coach back in the day and he signed his autograph with Alford in it for me because all I wanted to be was Steve Alford at the time. Fun topic and will think of others as the slow season hits.2 points

Sadly, I have a brother serving time in federal prison for possession of child porn. You think you know someone, (all my life), then you find out there is another part of them. He's been there about 4 years and I still have not come to terms with it. Plus, he is a grandfather as well. So very sad..1 point

I have never been able to understand how some people can do the things they do to children. What goes wrong inside of them? It is a natural instinct to care for and protect children. I truly hope this case is solved and justice is served.1 point

I just find it hilarious how we went from one extreme to the other. These guys are polar opposites in their approach to the game and their personalities. If you could just merge the 2...you might get a pretty outstanding coach. haha. Crean teams: sloppy, reckless, bad defense, mentally ready but lacked game preparation, sometimes needed to slow down, every shot was a good shot. CAM teams: too cautious, bad offense, lacked confidence, good game prep but not mentally prepared, sometimes needed to speed up, few shots seemed to be a good shot. 😆1 point

Technically yes. But I’d be more content w/ Jalen Washington, Flip, Duncomb, Race, Geronimo, and Kopp as our 4 and 5’s. I don’t really know if we need a ‘Traditional 5’ in Woodys system. Just my opinion. This is also contingent on if players (Race and Kopp) stick around for more years. That being said, if Woody and Crew offer him there must be a good reason.1 point

I consider myself fairly non-judgmental, but I would have a hard time being fair and open-minded when children are involved. Only served on one jury in my life. Open and shut drug case where the guy sold to an undercover cop. Was still interesting. I knew a guy one time that served on a highly publicized murder case where the jury was sequestered in a hotel. He did not enjoy that at all.1 point
