That would be an interesting move - i think he could do a lot with our roster. Certainly wouldn't get swept....

I lived in Phoenix during the D'Antoni era. Fun times. Even if Pacers didn't do better with him, it would be more entertaining.

Atkinson is another name being thrown out.

I never did well in grammar or spelling but did well in math.  The thing is about replacing McMillian is that when I see candidates for openings I don't see anything better.

Thoughts on Ty Lue or Jason Kidd? Only two names I know of who might be better and available.

Thanks for bringing this to the board.

Kudos to Duncomb. His hard work is paying off and his skills are being recognized.

Kudo to Archie and staff for identifying an undervalued player. People talk all the time about Crean bringing in Oladipo, OG, etc. who weren't highly ranked, but credit should also be given to CAM in these situations for getting the 3* that moved up to 4* before the final rankings/getting to campus as well.

The Hawks of course traded the Doncic pick to Dallas, they got Trae Young. Would you rather have Young or Doncic? Doncic, hands down, imo, but Young of course is a very good offensive player.

Gilgeous-Alexander (went 11) is outstanding. Porter fell to 14 due to his health issues, but he's looking scary good right now. Landry Shamet fell at 26. I wouldn't put this up with the top drafts, outside Luca, but it's deep on talent and underrated guys. Ayton has the ability to dominate down the road if he stays healthy and out of trouble. I don't know yet on Young.

Doncic. He's better than Young on both ends IMO. I'm not sold on Young yet, but he's certainly done better than I expected him too.

I'm curious what draft recently you'd put above it? I think you've got at least 7 future All-Stars in the lottery plus plus some of the best depth of quality players from late first round and second picks I can remember. I'm not saying it's like '03 good, certainly at the top, but it's a really good class

Just from outside the lottery, here is an incomplete list of guys already contributing in major ways:

    DiVencenzo

    Lonnie Walker

    Huerter

    Grayson Allen

    Aaron Holiday

    Shamet

    Brunson

    Devonte Graham

    Gary Trent

    Mitchell Robinson

    Bruce Brown

    Shake Milton

^This is impressive depth after only less than 2 seasons. Doncic and Young were already All-Stars so 7 is definitely doable (Ayton, Bagley, JJJ, SGA, Porter would get it done). Have to go back to 2011 for that many from a class

They did. That draft, by the way, I think will go down as one of the best in a long time. So much talent in it.

I think you're right. Definitely looking that way.

Mitchell Robinson at pick 36 is 2nd in WS. SGA has outplayed his draft position. Ayton and Young have played to/above theirs. Luka is out of this world so far (and for being so young). Porter is coming on strong now. Robert Williams has played pretty well in limited time (1st in WS/48). List goes on and on...

Somebody may recall the details better than me, but we’ve heard that Archie really likes him.  I think the story was something like Braden visited for a game, and afterwards Archie said he liked him and didn’t care how tall he was.

I have not seen the kid in person so it’s hard to get a good gauge on this from clips, but he looks physically strong and tough.  It looks like his core is especially solid.  My thinking is everything starts with the core,  Being a tough, strong guard can be a plus.  There’s more than one way to skin a cat, and not everybody needs to be long, lean and an electric athlete.

As for ranking, I truly don’t care other than a curiosity.  I, like others, tend to think he won’t be top 150.  The ratings “gurus” tend to overrate physical athleticism and length, and underestimate the “it factor” and the kid that just has that indescribable winning gene.  There are plenty of good athletes that play basketball that end up rated 75 or whatever because they fit the profile.  But they may not have what I referred to as the “it factor.”  They run around, look good physically, but just don’t have the knack to make those winning plays.

I agree with you about rankings. They seem to be for NBA projections more than for college anyway, so I can see why he wouldn't be top 150 if that's the case.

  7. I've attached the excel file I used in the tournament and included a results screenshot below in case people don't want to click on/download a file. Of note (to me at least):

Bob Knight was undefeated vs. other coaches in the tournament. I knew he would do well but thought it was really interesting that none of the other coaches beat him.

Mike Davis was winless. His teams matched up with 70s era teams did him in.

The decades played out mostly as expected, with the 50s and 60s benefiting from matchups vs. Crean/Archie rebuild years.

In the first game, the 2020 team is shocked when little used bench player Clarence Doninger comes off the bench to hit seven 3 pointers against the pack line defense in a dominating win.

In the second game, the '88-'89 team prevails as Jay Edwards is unable to stop Jay Edwards, who scores 37 points, while holding Edwards to 13.

Jay Edwards was a bad man at IU. Too bad we didn't get 4 years out of him.

In the biggest mismatch of the tournament thus far, can SR A.J. Moye’s heart and determination will the 2004 Hoosiers to an upset of the NCAA 3rd place and Big Ten champion 1973 Hoosiers with Steve Downing and a future legend FR Quinn Buckner?
