  1. Day 1 of the 64 years/teams of IU Basketball Tournament

Vote for the team you think would win

Each day (Mon-Fri) will have 3 games and the polls will be open for 48 hours. I will try to post the new day’s games at noon EST.

HSN members are encouraged to discuss memories of the teams involved in today’s matchup, post links to videos/games, etc. before voting on that day’s matchups.

The bracket was seeded sequentially by year (2020-1957) from most recent to oldest.

What time frame rules are we playing with in this one?

    Good question.

The question posed in the poll will just be "Who wins?". It will be up to each HSN member to decide how they want to vote and the parameters surrounding the "game". One might try to "simulate" the game in their mind (or online at places like https://www.whatifsports.com/ncaab/default.asp#top). Another might pick based on like/dislike of players and/or the coach. I'm hoping people will discuss the teams in question (debate/plead their case) and link to games/videos before voting. My ultimate answer to your question is "It is up to you" and is specific to each person voting.

So he led the team in rebounding as a 5'10" freshman.  Then I read he is still 5'10".

I've read mom and dad both played college ball but couldn't find how tall they are?  If this kid hasn't grown at all height wise from his freshman to sophomore season, I hope he's not done.

Anyone have any idea how tall his parents are?

Looks like he was 5'9 his freshman year and is 5'10 now according to more recent reports.

Very skilled but are we sure he is going to be athletic enough to play at the BIG level?

Watched his 1st half against Frankfort a week or so ago and he's definitely athletic enough IMO.

He led his team in rebounds last year as a freshman PG and is only about 5'10. I wouldn't be surprised if he can dunk already (or soon will) even at his height.

I don’t know, Minnesota has been to the playoffs once in 14 years. It was the one year they had Jimmy Butler. Everywhere he’s gone has gotten better with him and worse when he left. I’m not huge Jimmy Butler fan, but KAT is absolutely the problem there.

KAT wants to/thinks he will be the greatest of all time. Laughable. He's overrated b/c he's a stat stuffer, but you're right he's the problem/not a winning player. Minnesota didn't get better/may have gotten worse with this trade, which says a lot b/c Wiggins isn't living up to his hype (other than for a short time at the beginning of this year). DR and KAT's pick and roll will be tough to stop, but neither of them have had any issues with scoring prior to this, so it's not an improvement.

My nephew is his teammate. Showed me some stuff last night on Hooks - that isn't out for public viewing of him in game and practices

What kind of info would you want cybergates?

Here is what I've gathered since I couldn't stop watching his reels. Dude is a stud.

Lean but a wiry strong kid.More B1G ready body than many a past IU recruit was going into college as of his 8th grade year.. IDEAL frame for more weight as he grows but he doesn't need much to go with the big boys as is.

.Physical on the interior but also able to fit such a broad skillset  into a finesse scheme. Eyes are usually up typical of kids who play above the rim most of the time.Decent overall awarenss on both ends, and will makw blue collar plays along with the highlight reel stuff.Killer in transition.Killer.

Good handle for his size. Will throw it down your neck if he is given any space and sometimes when trying not to.Best way to contain is get nto him early and often and draw fouls..Being in the right spot might be the only way to contain him at some point on his current trajectory.Justin Smith - athletic with natural  killer instinct.Solid comparison there physically but Hooks looks stronger now than Smith did as a Freshman at IU..

He could still learn a few more post.moves.

Sneaky off ball movement on offense , and ability to recover to make a play on or off the ball defensively -  even if he doesn't get the first step. Versatile etc etc.

Solid shooter as of what I viewed, but that could use some work .JMO.Athletic enough to do whatever he works towards improving. The impressive thing to me is a lot of his opponents know what's coming but not much they can do about it.

Protects the rim with enthusiam. As in pins shots to backboards with one hand and pulls them down enthusiasm.Very stingy at the rim .Can't emphasize that enough on all I have saw.Not a kid who merely wants to block a shot.He wants to beat that s*** up!

Not saying Hooks will, but as a player he LOOKS capable of reclassifying a year early if there.were to ever be a scenario where he finished high school requirements for college early, and really wanted to get a jumpstart.

The only things that can stop kids with his talent are poor decisions or attitudes.I didn't get that far on my curiosity since it got late. Not sure if he takes plays off or other ill habits since I was Hook-ed on the obbious .Lol

Not sure who all is in contact .Will let you know .I'll ask my nephew more  today at dinner.

Thanks. Any info is great and you provided a great amount! I too would like to know what his thoughts are about IU and his favorite team(s)

Let's be honest..he wasn't the most graceful big man in the game. He couldn't make an offensive move without tripping over his big feet. I appreciated his work ethic and improvement and contribution to the Pacers but Embiid surpassed anything ol Roy could teach him after his first year.

Agreed. He was a strange guy. Saw him coming out of a beauty salon on Mass. Ave (downtown Indy) carrying a small dog like a housewife once.

I agree with the concept of 'get old, stay old' and building around the types of guys (Phinisee, Leal, Galloway, Geronimo, Hunter, etc.) that Archie is bringing in. I think for IU it's the best way to sustainable success.

With that said, I have no problem with IU bringing in the occasional, local one and done player. The biggest problem that Eric Gordon and Romeo Langford had is that they came around at the wrong time for IU basketball. It wasn't a 'them problem' it was an IU problem. Obviously we all know the issues Gordon went through with the Sampson team. That wasn't Eric Gordon's fault. For Langford, he came along in Archie's second season while a system was still being implemented, there was very little leadership on the team and the coach was still cleaning up from what was left him.

If you add either Gordon or Langford to good IU teams, with established cultures and leaders on the team, and they'd be excellent additions.

I think they were excellent additions regardless of the timing.

Gordon's team was final four caliber prior to his injury and Sampson's exit.

Romeo's team was at a minimum going to the tournament prior his (and other's) injuries. They missed the tourney by one game after losing 12 of 13 (or whatever it was). I don't think they lose all those game or miss the tourney if Romeo was 100%.

I do see the point your trying to make, but I think too many people are diminishing Romeo's contributions to the team in his lone season at IU (and maybe Gordon's to a lesser extent).
