Found it!  The cap is $109 mil, the luxury tax is $132 mil($23 mil between the cap and luxury tax as lee weigh).  SO IF and I mean IF the pacers and Simons want to spend a little money and can stay under the luxury tax this CAN happen below in two different options.  The EAST is wide open next year.

    Option A:

$32.5 Mil available to spend and here is how they can accomplish this by spending a little money out of pocket BUT staying well under the luxury tax:

$25 Mil to sign either Brogdon or Russell

    $19 Mil to resign Bojan

$9 NTMLE(non-taxpayer mid Level Exception) to sign either Seth Curry or JJ Redick

This brings the total to $53 mil.  We would be over by roughly $21 mil, HOWEVER we would still be under the luxury cap by around $2 mil

    Option B:

$32.5 Mil available to spend and here is how they can accomplish this by spending a little money out of pocket BUT staying well under the luxury tax:

$11 Mil to sign Rubio(all signs and sources are pointing to Rubio to the Pacers whether people like it or not)

    $19 Mil to resign Bojan

$12 Mil to sign JJ Redick

This brings total to $42 mil.  We would be over by roughly $10 mil, HOWEVER we would be still be under the luxury cap by around $13 mil so ALOT less spent out of Simons pocket to help move the needle in an east that is WIDE open.

Sounded like the Pacers came real close to signing Redick last year but at the last minute Philly raised their offer

So someone earlier on social media mentioned this below earlier, which I really like:

Sign Brogdon or Russell then move to Rubio if we strike out on Russell or Brogdon, use early bird rights to retain Bojan(up to $19 mil per yr) which allows Pacers to go over the salary cap and then offer the $9 mil NTMLE(non-taxpayer mid Level Exception) to Seth Curry or JJ Redick as SG to fill shoes until Vic returns, then slide into back SG.  This only works if we are over the cap BUT under the tax apron, my question is what is the tax apron?  The salary cap is at $109 mil.

I like the idea of Brogdon and saw a person on YouTube predicting that the Pacers would sign him.  One problem with your idea is that the Pacers owners will never go over the luxury tax

I just don’t get this. Turner signed an extension. We have Sabonis for two more and then he is a restricted free agent. We need more than one big...teams build around these kind of bigs not trade them. In today’s NBA it’s much easier to find shooting and wings then guys like Turner and Sabonis who both fit the new stretch bigs in the NBA. We have tons of cap space...we may make a trade but I don’t think we would trade either unless we get blown away.

I am saying that I don't think you c an start both of them together and play big minutes so to me you will have to choose one to keep and then trade the other.  I don't see Sabonis being satisfied long term coming off the bench so when he hits free agency he will leave.  On the defensive end you just can't play those tow together because I don't see either one being able to guard a stretch 4 type of player.

If Sabonis can defend better, you can have Myles play the 4 and Sabonis at the 5.  Myles is a power forward type of player in a centers body(prefers outside shooting, doesn't like to bang down low, and not the greatest post up game).  Myles can recover a lot better than Sabonis can, he recovered quite well multiple times during this past season from the perimeter.

But Turner is a great rim protector so you don't want him outside guarding a stretch 4 at the 3 point line.  If you put Turner out side on defense he would get killed by quicker forwards all day long.

Can't believe how many of you Pacer guys are okay with trading Sabonis.  I don't do that for anyything.  He would be virtually untouchable if I was GM.  Not sure if you realize how good he is.

We will have to trade either Turner or Sabonis eventually because I just don't see them be able to play together.  I really like Sabonis but he does need to learn to use his right hand because the Celtics shut him down because they took his left hand away.

I would very much like to add Russell.  I think getting Russell would be GREAT and add a SG in addition to Russell!  This below would be a top 4 team in the east IMO for sure.

    Option A:

    PG - Russell/Holiday

    SG - Vic/FA signing/Sumner

    SF - Warren/McDerrmott/Alize

    PF - Sabonis/Leaf

    C - Turner/Goga

If Russell comes to Indy, no way Indy can bring back Bojan(too much money) with a SG need off the bench.  So either option A or option B.  Option A gives you another all star and equal talent wise to Oladipo.  Option B gives you better depth, a little better 3 pt shooting(Bojan is a better 3 pt shooter than Russell) and can match up better against opponents.

    Option B:

    PG - Rubio/Holiday

    SG - Vic/FA signing/Sumner

    SF - Bojan/McDerrmott/Alize

    PF - Warren/Sabonis/Leaf

    C - Turner/Goga

With Vic not expected to return until Dec or Jan, I do not anticipate this team being a Eastern Conference Finals team until 2020-2021 regardless of either option UNLESS Vic comes back Dec or Jan and is truly close to 100% come start of playoffs. If I had to pick one, I would pick Option A, flip Sabonis and 2nd rd picks for a SF/PF that can guard multiple positions, shoot the 3 ball respectable and play solid defense.

I just don't see Bojan and Warren being good on the defensive end because neither one can guard a big 4 very effectively.  I also don't see Sabonis and Turner being effective starting especially on the defensive end.  I would love to see us sign Russell and then trade one of Turner or Sabonis for a good stretch PF.

    Russell/Holiday

    VO/ free agent guard

    Warren/McDermott

    Trade for PF/Leaf

    Turner/Goga

IMO Thad is all but gone unless some crazy trades occur once FA starts.  If Thad was brought back, HUGE logjam at the 4 and 5 spot especially with Sabonis all but guaranteed to get more minutes as Pritchard has alluded to.

    PF-Thad/Sabonis/Leaf

    C- Turner/Goga

Warren can play SF and PF(stretch 4), Bojan primarily at the 3.  Warren played both positions in Phoenix.  I think Bojan takes a slight discount to return to Indy.  Wojo and Bobby Marks have stated they think Bojan could command between $18 to $20 mil, which is why I think we could get him for $16 or $17 mil with some sort of discount.

I am hoping the Pacers try to make more of a splash than just signing Rubio and bring back Bojan.  If Russell becomes available I would like to see the Pacers sign him and have a backcourt of Russell and VO.

The Goga pick was shocking to me especially with others holes that needed filled. After watching Kevin Pritchard give a press conference yesterday evening after the draft, they expect Goga to be ready to play rotational minutes off the bench from the start(obviously he has to earn and practice hard day in/day out) as the backup center(very similar traits to Myles). Kevin also stated Domas and Myles can both play the 4 spot and obviously the 5 spot, so after hearing all of this info, the pick makes more and more sense. Add in TJ Warren that can defend the 3 and 4 spot and shot the 3 ball at a high level(42% during this past year).

Time to turn the FA focus on adding a PG, resigning Bojan and adding a true SG to fill in while Vic is out and once Vic returns slide to the backup SG.

My guess is we sign Rubio(will be used a stop gap until Holiday is ready to start which I would say Holiday is our starting PG for the 2020-2021 season and Rubio slides to a bench role or we only sign Rubio to a 1 year deal which Pritchard loves him some 1 year deals), we resign Bojan and we sign a respectable SG capable of shooting the 3 ball(Terrance Ross anyone?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?). So if this all holds true, a depth chart might look like this:

    PG- Rubio(FA)/Holiday
    SG- Vic/Ross(FA)/Sumner
    SF- Bojan(Resign)/McDerrmott)/Alize
    PF- Warren/Sabonis/Leaf
    C- Turner/Goga

***Only reason I have Sabonis as backup PF is by starting Warren you have Rubio(not a great or good shooter) surrounded with 4 respectable 3 pt shooters and did I mention Rubio is a good passer and respectable defender. When Sabonis subs in for Warren, Turner slides to the 4 spot with Sabonis playing the 5 like we saw some this past season.

*** I am not a big fan of Rubio, however he IS a better passer and defender than Collison and if you can space a guy like Rubio with shooters Rubio will put the ball where it needs to be on a consistent basis.  Cory Joseph is NOT a starting pg in the NBA so I am not going to go into comparison with Rubio and Cory

I think the trade for Warren is a good sign that Bojan will not be back because both are a SF.  I see Bojan getting 18-20 Mil and that will be to steep for the Pacers because like you say we have a lot of holes to feel.  With VO not being back until Jan. we will need a 2G to start for two months so that will cost some plus a new PG will as well.

    June 18 updates

lal.png&w=110&h=11011:35 p.m. ET: The Los Angeles Lakers are scrambling to reshape the parameters of the Anthony Davis trade with New Orleans and create the capacity for $32 million-plus in salary-cap space when the free-agent moratorium ends on July 6, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. The Lakers were engaging additional teams on Tuesday to take on the contracts of three of the remaining four players on the team's roster -- Mo Wagner, Isaac Bonga and Jemerrio Jones -- league sources said. Kyle Kuzma and LeBron James are the only other two Lakers remaining on the team's end-of-season roster.

Well I would not want any of them and none of them could make that much money.  I would not go out of my way to help the Lakers so they can build a super team.

The other issue is that they’re just not going to have the money to add a player like Kawhi — it’s looking like they’re only going have about $24M in cap space, while the truly elite players command around $32M-$35M per year.  No superstar is gonna take a $10M haircut to play second fiddle to LeBron.

What kind of haircut cost 10M LOL!

Ok...saw some tweets last night and this morning. Seemed to imply Lakers.

So you are more up to date than I am because what I saw was from a few days ago.  Since I am not on social media I don't see some of these things until later.

According to the article(TheRinger.com) Rubio provides a significant defensive and playmaking upgrade to better complement Oladipo's score-first style.  I would partially agree with this statement.  I think Rubio is a better playmaker than Collison or Joseph however not sure about the defense(would need to rely on defensive ratings for this determination).

As far as the 4th pick, I think everyone between 4 and 10 are tier 2 then 11 through 20 will be tier 3.  Again this all could be smoke BUT I honestly do not see Turner and Sabonis together long term here, especially since both are natural centers.  Both are too big to guard smaller power forwards.  Also I cannot envision paying your starting center $18 mil per year and giving Sabonis a pay raise to about $15 mil per year.

I don't mind trading Turner but I don't see anyone at 4 that would be an upgrade over him.  I would use Turner as a trade chip to get an established player.

Ricky Rubio will be a top free agent signing for the Pacers, also the Pacers are looking to move into the lottery in Thursday's draft  according to Kevin O'Conner(The Ringer) specifically the #4 selection in the lottery.

I know a lot of information could be false but interesting that the Pacers are now being mentioned wanting to get into the lottery

No thank you with Ricky Rubio and I really wouldn't move a lot for the 4th pick in this draft.  to me after the top 3 picks there is not much of a difference between 4 and 18

Two conflicting reports.  I'll go with Woj until told otherwise.

    • The Pelicans are open to waiting to complete the trade to help the Lakers with free agency, but if they move the No. 4 pick to a third team, it could complicate matters because that team or the Pelicans would not likely have the No. 4 pick during Summer League from July 5-15. (Tania Ganguli, Los Angeles Times)

    • The Pelicans and Lakers plan to complete the Davis trade on July 6, but if they wait to July 30, Los Angles would end up with $32.5 million in cap space compared to $23.7 million. (Adrian Wojnarowski and Bobby Marks, ESPN.com)

Have no idea why the Pelicans would be willing to help the Lakers out anymore than they already have.

I think Turner and Sabonis complement each other perfectly. Sabonis primarily runs with the second team so his numbers are typically going to look better against backups but also we have Turner who can step out and hit jumpers on pick n roll and Sabonis who will battle bigger centers. I don’t think either will break the bank and good bigs are hard to find. Much easier to go out and find a plethora of guards and wings. Going the Conley route who while still very good and a feel good story to bring him back to Indiana it just doesn’t make sense financially nor fit with his age.

Once Sabonis becomes a free agent he won't stay here if he is not starting and I just don't see those two being able to play big minutes together on the court

  16. For me I just can't see Turner and Sabonis starting together so they will have to eventually choose and I would keep Sabonis over Turner.  Except for blocks Sabonis had better numbers in less minutes than what Turner produced.

Sabonis  14.1 points and 9.3 rebounds in 24.8 minutes a game

Turner  13.3 points per game and 7.2 rebounds in 28.6 minutes a game

I just don't want my 7 footer hanging around the 3 point line especially since Turner is not a knock down shooter.  He just has not shown the ability or the willingness to have a good low post game.

So we want to trade our one rim protector and still improving 23(!!) year old center for a 32 year old over the hill point guard? Yep sounds like the Pacers....let’s trade Sabonis while we are at it and bring back George Hill too....hope this is rumor is fake as hell.

Turner is a one dimensional player who is soft as a babies bottom.  The only thing he does well is block shots but other than that he is pretty mediocre.
