I agree, I'd go as far as offering Collison/Evans/OQuinn/ and 2 future 1st rd picks before including Sabonis :D

It was reported that an expiring player and one young player was offered to the Grizz but they countered and that is when the price was driven up.  No idea what was offered in the first deal.  Jazz offered Rubio/Favors/1st rd pick, Pistons have offered Reggie Jacks

I would offer Collison, Leaf, Angiboho? and a 1st round pick

Pacers remains among teams(Utah, Raptors, Pistons) in talks with Memphis to land Conley.  Conley prefers to go to the eastern conference and does not want to play in Utah. According to Sam Amick at "The Athletic", Indications from Pacers and Raptors is that the price is high although all teams are still in the mix.

Love for the Pacers to get Conley but he makes a ton of money and probably would take a lot of good players to get him.

I'm afraid the Pacers are going into a free fall similar to the Hoosiers.  What a shame too.  I truly thought they had a legit chance to win the east.

They played a lot better earlier in the year when VO was out but this time they are falling on their face.

You will also never convince me that when the Shaq/Kobe Lakers played the Kings and Blazers in the Western Conference Finals that those series weren't rigged as well. The Kings series especially.

I also don't think it was coincidence that the Cavs had the #1 pick when Labron was in the draft and well as the Bulls getting the #1 pick when Derrick Rose was in the draft.

NBA needs a hard cap and needs to up their game when tampering becomes involved.  I think a few games suspended for being found guilty on tampering from players would work and a loss of draft picks if owners or GM's are caught tampering(aka Magic Johnson).

All the NBA cares about is the big markets and the star players.  You will never convince me that the 85 draft lottery was not rigged for the Knicks to get Ewing.

Hard cap (of course very difficult as the players, who hold great power, will never agree) is part of the issue for sure.

Mid-market teams generally can't compete with the big market teams, e.g., Lakers vs. Minnesota, Indiana etc.

However, the Spurs have multiple championships, and you do have other teams with well run front offices like the Pacers (now), and teams like the Bucks and Portland are competing with legit all star to super star level players (Greek Freak, Lillard).

There are legit reasons to call for reducing the number of NBA teams as, generally, many of the teams don't stand a chance. But it's pretty complicated stuff, and teams like Philly came back from disaster, over many years, to potential contender, San Antonio again has been in contention for 20 years and has 5 championships, the P's with Reggie had a shot in the Finals, Detroit has won in recent history, etc. Complicated.

Thing with San Antonio they pretty much luck into getting two # 1 picks in a short period of time.  Also they picked two guys who were really grounded people who was not out just looking for the next big pay day.  I liked you thought on contracting teams because I feel they should have never expanded like they did 20 some years ago.  I think 24 would be a great number with 12 teams in each conference.

What about the expiring contracts?  What's the point of making the 2nd round and getting beat 4-1 and then 6 guys are no longer on the team and you literally got nothing from them.  That's why I said, identify who you want here long term.  It probably involves Thad but it's a business.  If you make a gentleman's contract and day we'll bring you back on a 3 year deal and retire you a pacer but we are going to flip you for a first rounder right now.

I see the Pacers resigning Thad and Bojon and one of Collison or Joeseph.

What is Thad worth?  These guys are all expiring contracts.  This is no longer a deep playoff team.  What would you suggest?

I would try to add to the team instead of subtracting because the East is not that dominate and think we could still make it tot he second round of the playoffs.

I just think the writing is on the wall as far as a playoff run goes.  It's tough because their is chemistry.  If say identify who you want long term and let them get the playoff experience but beyond that, trade away.   If Thad can pull a late 1st rounder you do it don't you?

I do not agree with that because in the NBA a late first round pick is not that valuable

Melo's camp said they have multiple  options.  I don't see it with the pacers but he would be a cheap 1 year contract for a "scorer".  He'd most likely be a bust and I don't see it happening.  I think he's waiting for a contender and content to workout on his own for now and forgo the season of travel.

Pacers won't touch conely or gasol.  Both have terrible contracts and you'd have to give up too much anyways.  Some are talking about trading That how has nice value.  I would entertain it and let him be in on the talks.  Let him essentially choose where he goes and bring him back next year and let him retire a pacer in a few years.

I don't want Carmelo anywhere near the pacers. Thad is my favorite player on the Pacers so I would hate to trade him.

Looks like a 4 team race between Cleveland, Chicago, Phoenix, and New York for worst team in NBA with more than likely draft rights to Zion. Unless the Lakers offer up something unreal (like 3-4 first round picks which won't be higher than what 18-20 range?) I'm waiting to see which of the franchises I mentioned want to pony up the most 1st round picks. Davis is from Chicago so maybe they could package a ton of picks?

We all know Davis wants LA but if I'm Pelicans I'm holding out.

I don't see any of those teams trading for him because they would only have him for one year because he would not resign with any of those teams.

Not great news for the Celtics. The Celtics have, by a fairly wide margin, the best assets to put together a trade for Anthony Davis, but this was Davis, Rich Paul and LeBron all saying the goal is to get him to the Lakers. Kyrie and Davis both have a certain type of contract where you can only have one of them on the team at a time, so the Celtics can't acquire Davis until this summer after Kyrie resigns and no longer has that type of contract.

Davis is normally a pretty loyal guy to New Orleans and could have handled this quietly over the summer without really requesting a trade so he'd maintain his good will, but this is him basically saying 'get me to the Lakers'. This clearly was a message to the Lakers to act now and get this done.

If I am the Pelicans I wouldn't trade him at the trade deadline but at draft time.  the Celtics can give a way better package than can the Lakers so I would wait on them to see what they are willing to give up.

I found it....it was '96.  He was out 3 weeks heading into the play offs.  His orbital bone got broke.

Remember that because it was against Atlanta in the first round and he missed the first 4 games of the series.  The series going into game 5 was tied 2-2 and Reggie came out and played but we lost that game and the series

    IU curse. Knee cap maybe.

I think I am the curse because every team I cheer for seem to have a lot of injuries, Pacers, IU, and the Colts.  I was  watching the game last night and my daughter called so I talked to her for a few minutes and when I came back that was when they was taking him off on the stretcher.

So Myles Turner is very important to the Pacers, especially on the defensive end.  His presence is surely missed.  Sabonis fills in quite well, however Myles is on another level on the defensive side of the ball compared to Sabonis.  Don't get me wrong, I love Sabonis but that just isn't his game.  I would love if Sabonis improved defensively during this upcoming offseason.

Pacers are looking pretty bad the last few games and are playing horrible defense,  Gave up 122 to Toronto with 70 in the first half. Gave up 115 to Cleveland with 72 in the second half. Gave up 133 to Boston.

I heard that too and thought that was interesting.  Reminds me of Scott May going to IU however his son chose UNC.  I cannot remember for the life of me why Sean chose UNC

Scott and Sean went down to talk to RMK before he decided and some think that is why he chose UNC.  Also having mike Davis as the coach probably had something to do with it as well.

I know you aren't big on analytics and  prefer to go with how you feel, but the Pacers are not way better without Vic. I'm sure you'll disagree with the numbers though.

Only numbers I care about is the W/L record and the kind of game I enjoy watching.  I just can't stand watching basketball the way the last 5 minutes was played with VO last night.  I want to see player movement and ball movement and you saw none the last 5 minutes.  I just don't want to see the ball in VO hands dribbling the shot clock away and go one on one with 5 seconds on the shot clock.  When VO was out they spread the floor and had players move and the ball moved to the open man.

One other thing I ever said they were better without him but they have played better this year without him this year than they had with him in the lineup.
