Pacers just got screwed for the second time in two days. Crazy. Completely avoidable by not sucking, but still crazy.

The offense the last 5 minutes was horrible because all it was give it to VO at the top and let him go one on one.  The Pacers are at its best when they move the ball and get everyone involved liked they did in the first 3 quarters.

Pacers just absorbed an incredible Embiid first half and won in Philly. Time to stop doubting this team.

6th straight win with back to back wins against Milwaukee and Phily.  It is funny that 19-10 record in the NBA is considered a very good record but in college it would only be considered and descent season at IU.

    OK this is funny:

HOUSTON -- The Los Angeles Lakers found themselves so frustrated by the officiating in the second half of Thursday's 126-111 loss to the Houston Rockets that several players, LeBron James and Lonzo Ball among them, purposely held their hands behind their backs on a series of defensive possessions to make a point to the referees.

I find it funny that Labron is complaining about the lack of calls when he has been getting all the calls for years.

I understand that sentiment, but it was Bird demanding he play PF right after PG came back from a year-long injury that could've ended his career. Name another elite player who would be fine with that. There isn't one. It was an incredibly stupid move by Bird, and Bird is now gone too, for good reason, and the P's are, clearly, doing a lot better with Bird no longer calling the shots. Pritchard is flat out better for the Pacers.

To me the players are the employees and you do what your boss wants you to do. If I decided I did not like what my boss asked me to do I have two options do what they ask or look for another job.

I agree with a lot of that sentiment. VO did not shine with the Thunder I feel he is better suited and wants the ball and the pressure. PG is a great player but being the man is not the best role for him IMO. Not a bash in any way, no more so than its a bash on VO for me saying he could not excel with Russ.

PG is a very good player but glad the Pacers Traded him because to me he was not about the team but what was best for him.  When he told the team he wouldn't play PF it made me realize he wouldn't do what the team thought was best but what he thought was best for him.

Anyone else starting to get concerned about Victor's injury? Going on 3 weeks now with no indication of return. The good news is Pacers are now 7-4 without him. Last year Pacers were 0-7 without Vic. I see him getting shots up before games, doing drills,etc....but no news on any return.

Seems to me his knee can't be to bad because he was doing some good dance moves on the sideline.

  7. Very good win by the Pacers on the road against Orlando 112-90. Might not seem like a big deal but the Pacers was still without VO and tonight Sabonis missed the game with food poisoning.  Did not realize it but Orlando came into the game with a 12-13 record so they have been descent..

Only the 5th 30-point road win in franchise history.  a really impressive performance.  I'm getting really excited about Pacer basketball again and it all started with the trade that brought Vic to Indy.

Can't believe I forgot the Pacers played last night

Can’t really get in his head, his worst game of the season —but the P’s won with Bog and Evans stepping up. Another game where the shooting and scoring was spread around leading to the W.

I did not see the first half o the Pacers game tonight but VO only played 5 minutes do to knee problem,

Being an old guy, this will sound bad but watching baseball requires an attention span.

I think social media has really hurt watching sports because people can now just look at their phones for updates and don't actually have to watch the game.  I personal don't mind how long games to take because I love sports and will watch the games that I am interested in.

Could you imagine how much better the game would be if pitchers were required to go right into a windup as soon as they caught the ball?  No balks allowed...they can throw to any base...no batters being allowed to step out?  How exciting would it be if neither the batter nor the catcher knew what was coming?

...and yes, before the crowd of baseball purists jump in, I understand that what I just proposed is baseball blasphemy and doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of getting introduced to the game, but Scott has a point...the game needs speeded up. A lot.

...and yes, I am aware that I have hijacked the crap out of the NBA thread.  That's what happen when the subject veers off course and we forget where we are posting.:P

Things to sped up the game

Don't let the batters adjust their batting gloves after every pitch and make them stay in the batters box

Make pitchers stay on the mound and not let them walk around for 30 seconds.

Like it or not, the influx of Latin American players has not sat well with a lot of the American crowd. Too many get off my lawn guys don't like the game played with emotion or fun.

I just think the younger people don't want to sit and watch a baseball game that takes over 3 hours and that is why it is not as popular as it once was.  There is also way to much downtime in baseball and really not that much action for a 3 hour game.  When I go to the ballpark I never worry that the game is taking to long but when watching it on TV the game can drag along quit slowly.

If you haven't possessed the ball, you can't travel.

but you are not allowed to advance the ball without a pass or a dribble.  So if someone passes the ball inbounds to me and I bobble it all the way up the court you are telling me that is illegal.  I guess back when I played we did not know what the actual rules of basketball was because this use to be a travel.

  14. 4 minutes ago, KoB2011 said:

What level of basketball is it possible to travel without having control all of the ball?

So with that logic you could go full court juggling the ball then go in for a layup.  When I played you couldn't juggle the ball and take a couple of steps because in basketball that is traveling.

  15. What I hate is the NBA has different set of rules than the rest of basketball has.  In any other level of basketball if you juggle the ball down the court 3 or 4 steps it will be a travel.  Last night a Rocket player juggle the ball 3 or 4 steps but no call and the stupid ref was motioning the juggle call which really makes me upset.

I am not following your train of thought here.

I am  more about the team than the individual and the NBA is more worried about promoting the individual over the team.  I was watching the Pacers vs the Bulls but the NBA was promoting it as MJ against Reggie.

Agree, there’s not a ton of difference in 2018 between the NBA and NFL in terms of player marketing, but the NBA is the league that set the blueprint for this. They started marketing player over team in the early 80’s with ‘Magic vs. Bird’, and then it was taken to a new level with Jordan. The NBA was at the forefront on this.

Completely agree that the college thing gives the NBA and NFL an advantage over MLB, but it’s also been widely covered that MLB has lagged in terms marketing its stars. Winning does play a part, but with that said Mookie Betts, Chris Sale, and Jose Altuve aren’t exactly mainstream, household names. MLB has just struggled with this over the years.

Actually that is one thing that I don't like about the NBA is it is about the individual and not the team.

  18. 1 hour ago, Seeking6 said:

I'll never understand when people say they can't market themselves here. Peyton Manning arguably is the most marketable player in the history of the NFL. If you win. People will find you.

Football is so much different than the NBA when it comes to marketing.  Also a lot of players feel like there is not much to do in Indy compared to a bigger market as well.

    8.5-17.9 / 23.1 / .477% / .371% / .799%

    9.2-19.5 / 24.1 / .470% / .356% / .698%

That's why analytics are so important. I'm a complete amateur and saw exactly where this was headed. When you know how things are supposed to play out you can adjust the things that you want to adjust to achieve even more desirable outcomes.

I stand by my opinion that it's a mistake to take shots away from Vic. I think you keep nurturing this flame and see how far he can go. This squad isn't good enough to win a title this year but who knows how Sabonis / Turner develop and then possibly we could trade or lure in a FA to really threaten for the title.

Yet when the pacers are playing well it is when they have a balance attack with 6-8 players scoring in double figures.  It was like MJ before Pippen and Grant came along he would score 63 and still lose in the playoffs to Boston.

  20. 1 hour ago, Hoosierhoopster said:

Turner still has a lot of upside. He has not had the breakout season some (e.g., Bird, who thought he'd be the Best Pacer Ever) thought, but he's very talented, and does block at an elite level. Heard a lot about his off-season yoga etc. to get him in shape, but still looks kind of soft to me - needs to get stronger and continue developing his jumper. Can see him traded, but can also see that being premature.

I know he was only a freshman but he did nothing at UT and watched hi score two points against Butler in their first round loss.

I agree. You want to build your team around a core of Vic, Bogdanovic (sp), Sabonis and whichever point guard you get, in this case Rozier. I wouldn't give up Sabonis if I was the Pacers, just saying if I'm the Celtics that's where I'm starting. I think the Celtics would say no to Turner, but I could be wrong.

After this season the Pacers have 8 guys who will be free agents so they have a lot of money to spend.  the problem with that is getting free agents to want to come to play in Indianapolis.  It is a great city and the facilities are top notch but free agents want to be able to market themselves and Indy is not that place.
