  1. As many of you know, I am not a fan of the NBA.  Many of you are, and that's ok by me.

Having said that, I don't frequent this thread, much, it at all.  So my apologies for linking this video if it has already been posted.

I recently ran across this video, and thought some of you NBA fans would find it interested. I can say, I did.  And in a good way.  Had no idea about his school.

I paid attention in my Indiana history class!  Lew was quite the man.  Now as far as the other one hmmmmmmm.  You said you could tie it to sports.  Gary Wallace is named after Lew.  Hmmmmmmm.  So if we keep with that theme.  I will say Anthony Wayne.

I attended Gary Lew Wallace from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Was the last to go all the way through, before they built elementary and middle schools.

The Wallace family allowed our school to use their coat of arms. Had it in our hallways, yearbooks, and class rings.  At the top of the crest, in latin are the words 'Sperandum Est. Which means one must hope. Or. It is to be hoped for.

Who is the NFL player that fought Muhammad Ali in an exibition match?

Ooh, Ooh,  I know the answer, 'cause I was there !

Lyle Alzado, when he was a Denver Bronco.  Match was held outdoors at the old Mile High Stadium.

A couple of years later, I met Ali. A very nice man.

  4. What former Major Leaguer  from Indiana, when  in the Little League World Series, took just five swings at the ball in three games.... each one good for a homer on the first pitch.  And was intentionally walked the other five times he came to the plate ?

Hint, he is from NWI, and played for Valpo University, before going into the majors.

  5. Tiz and KoB.... my heart goes out to both of you.

May I suggest that you contact your carriers.  To see what, if anything they would be willing to do for you.  In my case, I have asked, and some have been more than willing to help. For instance Century Link went over and above about locking in a lifetime price due to our loyalty with them.  And after my wife went into a Verizon store recently,  and inquired about specials for veterans and other programs.... she and I will be going to Verizon shortly to get a reduced rate for vets.

It never hurts to ask. And over the years, I have found that many companies have programs that are not made public.   Even if they say no, at first.... wait and ask again.

  6. ^^ Tiz. I don't know what I am about to say will address your question.  And as KOB is saying, I am not sure if we are confusing things here.

So... I will state, what I have.  Unlimited data plan via Verizon on our I-phones.  And my internet service at their highest power,  is provided by Century Link ( with a lifetime lock on price, and only pay $9.00/mo for land line with unlimited long distance service.  I use a Roku streaming device. Though I do have a Chromecast Ultra, but don't use, because they don't have a remote like Roku, and make you use a smart phone as a remote.  And have a HuluTv account, which I pay an addition $10.00/month over their base price  for unlimited streaming devices ( phones, tv's etc.).

I don't have any tips on seasoning them, but I do have a tip for cooking the best steak you'll ever have on them.

Crank the stove as hot as you can get it, dry the steak, and season it with a little vegetable oil and steak seasoning.  I like the finer ground seasonings for cooking this way because the courser ground Canadian seasonings can burn.  With a little oil smoking in the pan, pop the steak in.  Flip after a couple minutes.  When the temp is about 120, cut up some butter and toss it around the steak.  When the butter is starting to pop, lift the steak, swirl the butter and set the steak back in the sizzling butter.  Then tilt the skillet and spoon the butter over the steak for about 20-30 seconds.  If the steak has a strip of fat on it, pick up the steak and sit it on the strip of fat for about 30 seconds to really crisp that up too.  Unbelievable steak.  Way better than anything you can cook on a grill.

Leather. I have used Ramsey's method.  Mostly in the winter when the temps are cold outside.

I take the steak out of the fridge, and season it simply with salt and pepper, and let it come to room temperature before cooking.

I augment Ramsey's style with two sprigs of rosemary, and one to two jalapenos sliced into rings.  Place the rosemary on top of the steak, and baste with a combination of butter and the jalapenos.

  8. Comcast and the B1G Ten Network came to terms on Aug. 21.  However, here in Colorado, as before, in order to watch the B1G Ten Network, you have to cough up an additional $10.00 for the Sports/Entertainment package.  Plus, we have never had an alternative B1G Ten Network channel with Comcast. And the Indiana/Ball State game was not available in Colorado on Comcast. So, if I had gone back to Comcast for the Sports Channel, I would not have been able to see last Saturday's game.

Conversely, Hulu Live TV has all B1G Ten Channels.  Not only was I able to view IU's game, but every one of the 8 other games broadcast by the B1G Ten Channel. Additionally, for no extra charge I can DVR games on Hulu.

  9. Tiz.  In terms of streaming devices, I have four Roku's and one Chromecast Ultra.  My personal preference is the Roku because they come with a remote. While  with the Chromecast Ultra, you have to sync to a smart phone and use the phone as a remote.  The cost for the Roku is tiered.  One and two cost the least, then they bump the price for each time you add two or more.

Roku and Hulu stream in HD only.  So the picture quality alone should be worth the effort for you to cut the cable.  Of course, I am assuming you have an HD tv.

What day does he get the salute of the day?  He posted it June 4th, but you just saw it today.  Is the salute of the day today or is it a retroactive salute for June 4th?  And if it is June 4th, are you sure you didn't give somebody else the salute of the day for that day?  Then it would be the salutes of the day.  But if it is today, maybe his doctor has told him something difference since then, and the joke no longer applies?  Plus, Rico is leading in the weight loss thread, so maybe his doctor would say something different now.  I can't keep it all straight!

Funny stuff.  No salute of the day for you.  Just a milehiiu..... "Well done" of the day.   Figure that day out.   LOL

Oh, by the way.  Thanks for being a great member.

    Ohh...thanks, my friend.

Sorry mods, nothing to see here.

Not to worry, as I rarely follow either of the NBA threads.  I may be alone , but..... Just not my cup of tea. Following the NBA.... that it is.  So thanks for letting us know about Yogi.

I did watch a game of Yogi's a couple of years back when he came to Denver.  And none of his teammates were willing to share the ball with him.  Too bad he said no to Mark Cuban... but sounding like it is a better deal, money wise for Yogi.

Thanks for checking.  Difficult decision to make.  Like you, I need to stream more than 2 TV's simultaneously, Playstation Vue allows up to 5, but the price is about the same as Hulu with the unlimited option, but does include the  NFL Network.  It also appears that Vue provides access to things like BTN2Go, WatchESPN, etc on mobile and other devices, which is something I would take advantage of, not sure if you can do this with Hulu.

I found a nice comparison article on streaming TV services HERE, you can also link to individual reviews of of each service from the article.

Looks like the best move is to take advantage of the free trials once I get moved in.  And it's nice that most (if not all) of them are month to month.

    You are welcome.

Glad I found this thread.  Getting ready to move and am really keen on going streaming for my TV needs.  Hulu question for Mile (or anyone else who knows), does it include NFL Network?  Not seeing it in the channel line up.

Since my primary objective was to find a streaming service that offers the Big Ten Network.... when I found it on Hulu (as well as DirectTVNow).... I did not look for the NFL Network.  I just checked HuluLiveTV, and currently the NFL Network is not offered.  However, that may change over time, as HuluLiveTV is adding channels all the time.

  14. An update as of July 11,2018 as far as my adventures.  Had some issues with Hulu. Cross contaminating the Hulu account we set up years ago, with the new Hulu Live TV account recently set up.  Could not get Hulu Live TV to play on all my tv's with Roku, even though I opted for the unlimited device option.  Was getting half of the tv's getting the basic Hulu and half getting Hulu Live TV.  Must say that most if not all the issues were  because of  my limited understanding of how to set up things on the internet.  Anyway, the young lady from Hulu was very patient and understanding.  Willing to spend all the time I needed to get things straightened out on my end. She even called back twice in the day, just to make sure everything was working the way it should.

Next.... onto my 4HD big screen in the kitchen.  This one, I hooked up a Chromecast Ultra to. Because we have a Google Home in the kitchen. And since Chromecast does not utilize a remote (an smart phone us used as a remote), my hope would be that I could use my Google Home to give voice commands for Hulu Live TV.  Only to find out that currently Cromecast is not set up for Hulu voice commands.  I can use the Google Home for voice commands for other things live You Tube, but not Hulu Live TV at present.

I do not own a smart phone. But, luckily, my son gave me one of his, that he no longer uses.  And now, I can watch Hulu Live TV utilizing Chromecast on my Kitchen TV.... and most importantly, I can get the Big Ten Channel there once again.  Remember.... what started this all in motion was my cable company, Comcast dropped the Big Ten Channel this past Spring.

So, now, I am this much closer to cutting the cable.... all together.

  15. Agree with you dbm.  They all seem to have content issues.  My first choice was DTV, but, like I said.... I can't access it with my current browsers.  Even updating them per AT&T does no good.  Hulu was a snap to load, and upgrade.

I am not much of a movie watcher.   Though we did that outside the other night.  So not having AMC is no biggie for me.  The thing I needed most was the Big Ten Channel, which I can get on Hulu.

Also... if you are a movie buff..    Roku has about a half dozen free movie channels.  And they seem to keep adding more and more.

And of course there is Netflex.

Mile, DTV Now is offering a great promotion where if you prepay for 3 months they will give you a free 4k Apple tv.  So for $105 thats the basic package times 3 you're getting a free 4k Apple tv which sells for over $150.  A no risk way to try it out for a few months.  Just thought I'd mention it.

I appreciate that. Only problem is that AT&T, will not recognize any of the browsers I use. Including the one's I have updated, per their request.  So for now, I am staying with HULU live tv.... which I am loving. It's been too much of a hassle with DTV, while Hulu has been a breeze for me.   Been watching movies on my back patio at night. I upgraded for all devices, and it is working great. The wife loves watching her favorite channels on her phone.    Really, really great.
