  1. I haven't read through all of the post game threads, heck, I didn't get to watch the game live due to work.  However, here is my thing just regarding the program....  Woodson was not the perfect hire, never was and never will be.  However, he has raised the profile of this program with recruits and the spirit of the program.  On the flip side, he struggles with the modern game and adapting to it.  Can he, I'm sure he can, but he has a team that does not fit his style of play.  I do think it can be fixed, because his style needs to have a majority of players who have experience in it or defensive fundamentals and IQ.

Saying all of that, I do think it can get turned around with the talent that this team has.  X missed a TON of time last season and is still working his way back.  Also, last years team played fairly well defensively as a unit.  They weren't perfect, but played well together.  This team doesn't have that, and with time I think will get much improved.  Unfortunately my biggest concern is the offense that doesn't fit this team, and I don't think more experience will really improve.

It's a mixed bag and hopefully the ship can get righted.  I'm not saying Woodson is the answer, but we are in a better spot overall than before.  Sucks to lose the way we did and sucks to be playing how the team is, but I do think the team can get much better.  Might not, but I think this team is too talented.  Can truly go either way.

  2. I picked Ware as my MVP, but I think Galloway is honorable mention. Did everything we could have asked from him in this game. Absolutely LOVED his hustle getting the offensive rebound and then connecting on the floater to keep that run going in the 2nd half. Cupps and Reneau were great, but Galloway is my honorable mention.

I’d suggest not playing Gunn and Banks together yet.  Stagger the substitutions so they play with stable teammates.  It’s like giving them training wheels.   It might help them if the other guys know what they are doing.

Gunn came in and immediately launched that wild shot.  IMO, he should let the game come to him more.  He’s got tremendous energy and length.  Nobody is going to say he doesn’t play hard.  There is very good potential there.  Banks too but he’s more of an enigma.  He comes across as a tweener and also laid back.

Agree 100%. While the 2nd unit can definitely play, it really does need to be staggered. Only 2 subs at a time would be ideal with how this team is.

  4. This is the type of game I expected early on from a decent test. This is a team with a lot of new players, so it’s going to take some time to gel. We saw what it can be in that really good stretch in the 2nd half, but it will take time for that sort of consistency.

While there are several things that need to get fixed, I’m not concerned with this team. Now if it’s happening in January and February, then I will definitely be concerned. Good gritty win that made this team dig deep and fight. Could have been much worse, where we lost like other teams that were upset.

  5. Sucks to lose out on such a good PG recruit, it’s deflating for sure. However, many people didn’t think we would truly be in this recruitment, let alone in the final 2/3. So far, Woody/staff has proven he can recruit and do a heck of a job. It’s important, in my opinion, for us to still wait and see with Woody. Sometimes coaches come into programs, recruit like crazy, but then that flame starts to fizzle out.

All signs point to this being a continued success, and he’s still learning the recruiting game. He went all in for just a handful of ‘24 recruits, and it’s still not over even if we get 1 of the big 3. With who we have on staff with Woody, I don’t see recruiting being much of an issue. They are trying to recruit top level talent and are having success. No reason to go off the deep end when a top recruit doesn’t pick us when we have had JHS, Malik, MM, and now Liam within the last year choose to play for IU. Not to mention to a really solid core of players on the team that are no slouches.

IU does need to get better guards, but IU is in a much better place than it has been in quite some time. Regardless with how this recruitment is shaping up to turn out in a couple hours, IU is becoming more relevant and trending in a very positive way.

This coming season will be CMW and his staff's biggest challenge.  We are losing 4 experienced starters including a consensus A-A/all-time IU great and an NBA level guard.  The incoming class is small and hardly overwhelming.  CMW will have to find some good fits in the portal, coach them up, and develop the existing talent.

Our offense improved greatly this season going from #95 to #28 in Kenpom OE, but the defense taking a nose dive from #24 to #45 in Kenpom DE.

He'll have to do all of this and have a great 24 recruiting season and space on the roster for them.

    Should be interesting!

I agree but I think the defense took a dive without having XJ for most of the season. Also, we had him and Rob last year, which are two top level defenders.

This year will definitely be interesting!
