  1. I'd like to keep this post for weather news and updates. Not to get off topic, or political, I get what you are saying about the weathe extremes but have to wonder if that is just because of more of a focus by the media. Personally, I remember the blizzards of 67, 77/78, summer temps over 100, cold snap of 30? below around 1990 all in the Chgo area- all happening 30+ years ago. Logic would say those should be more common now. We have a "polar vortex" with temps 0-10 below and it is national news now. I saw a great article not too long ago on the topic that researched this. Can't locate it now but did find this- https://www.longdom.org/open-access/trends-in-extreme-weather-events-since-1900--an-enduring-conundrum-for-wise-policy-advice-2167-0587-1000155.pdf Still not the article I had in mind but this one has some nice graphs on the historical frequency of some weather events-https://www.investors.com/politics/editorials/despite-what-youve-heard-global-warming-isnt-making-weather-more-extreme/ and this one is recent referring specifically to heat waves- https://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-blogs/realimpactofweatherwithdrjoelnmyers/throwing-cold-water-on-extreme-heat-hype/70008963
  2. Would not have posted here except this hit near Billingsly. https://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Montana-hailstorm-slaughters-11-000-birds-14366687.php Who else here is fascinated by weather events? I, for one, take interest in the big snowstorms, tornados, hurricanes, floods, etc.
  3. I made the decision when I bought mine to be a responsible owner. I keep them locked, make it a point to stay on top of the laws, and keep working on my proficency. You might want to look into the fingerprint locks. Just like unlocking your phone these days.
  4. I have a 9mm and AR-15. Just got into guns 2 years and bought my first 2 years ago. Just for fun at the range and home protection. Would love to get to the range more and develop this hobby - and my proficiency. I probably go to the range 6x per year- mostly over the winter months. My brother just got into guns a year ago and now has 5 or 6. Once you start, I can see where it can be addicting. My 17 year old son got his markmans badge with a .22 but doesn't like handguns.
  5. Seeing as you have Pizza and BBQ covered, and the kids may not appreciate Goose Island, you could try http://www.superdawg.com/. Not too far from O'Hare if you are flying in. Something quick and cheaper for a lunch.
  6. I prefer Giordanos, Ginos East and Lou Malnatis in that order. Years ago, my office was across the street from a Home Run Inn and we would hit up their lunch buffet. My kids like Home Run Inn more than I do. Beggars is a good one too. Mile, have we got your mouth watering yet?
  7. Whats a list without pizza? https://firstwefeast.com/features/the-best-pizza-from-every-state/ https://www.thedailymeal.com/eat/best-pizza-every-state-slideshow
  8. I actually like parking driver door to driver door- as long as I'm the one pulling in second. I can make sure the gap is large enough to eliminate the possibility of door dings.
  9. Thanks for starting this thread. I used to live a few miles from a municipal airport. There were a few times I was out when a C130 would land there and that was always cool. Got to go into the aircraft control tower with my sons boy scout troop and it was neat seeing planes lined up all the way to St Louis coming into O'Hare.
  10. I actually have a TCL /Roku that I got on Black Friday 18 months ago for my kids. They have used much more than I but I'm already familiar with it. It was just a small one for their bedroom. Now, I'll get the larger / newer version for our primary.
  11. Thanks for the heads up. I'm planning on getting rid of cable when I move next month. Think I will go with the TCL/Roku 6k at Best Buy instead of waiting for 8k.
  12. Feel terrible for Vic. He was doing everything right and getting the results he deserved. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
  13. Buy a smaller house? 😁 IL is generally around 2%. There are areas at 3% however.
  14. While I could probably lose 5 lbs, I wouldn't make a good participant but think it would be worthwhile doing and I'm sure myself and many others would check in and help root you on.
  15. The link to that article let me in so I was able to read. Basically covered both sides. Government agencies are behind the times with their guidelines and that eggs can be healthy. Egg producers want to advertise as such but can't. Pointed out the the fact that they do have lots of cholesterol. IMO, the government needs to realize that certain cholesterol is ok and healthy for you and get with current science but they are still stuck on the food pyramid emphasizing grains. Not easy to admit you are wrong (and responsible for the poor health of many Americans???)
  16. The Great Egg debate, lol- https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-great-egg-debate-are-they-healthy-or-not-1528812769?mod=e2tw
  17. Might want to check this out. A bit more comprehensive, still has the milk thistle. https://www.swansonvitamins.com/now-foods-liver-detoxifier-regenerator-90-caps?DFA=1&UTM_Medium=Shopping&UTM_Source=GOOGLE&UTM_Campaign=SWAN_National_Gen_Shopping_Null_Null_NonBrnd+T1+4055-01+Cleansing+and+Detoxification&UTM_Content=PRODUCT+GROUP&SourceCode=INTL4061&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhK6u6LjM2wIVRLjACh3sHQI9EAQYASABEgI8RvD_BwE
  18. I'm with ya.... At least I don't (yet) have any urgency. So I procrastinate and monitor my options. YouTube was probably best for me but I do not like how they censor things (Church/ politics/ guns/ etc) so DirectTVNOW would be my next choice. Might just have to get an extra account for the kids.
  19. What supplements does everyone take? I think Fouls must own a GNC with all the weightlifting suplements he must take! As was discussed in the suicide rate thread, diet may be a factor. I've also seen where nutritional values of even healthy foods have plummeted. Now that I've hit 50, trying to focus more on health knowing I've probably got 40+ more years to go (Factoring in advances in science and healthcare). I do sit alot and my flexibility is probably my major concern. My exercise is more the weekend warrior type. Not concerned about losing weight. I take a premium multivitamin (cheap ones are often synthetic, minimum doses), Fish oil, Vitamin D, probiotics, Turmeric and eye vitamins daily. Then I rotate in vitamin C, CoQ10, Astaxanthin and what I call something experimental. Might be something to boost my mitochondria or NAD+. I know I probably go a little overboard and have seen studies that indicate against, but do see a lot of science behind what I do. The hardest part is wading thru the marketing and sensationalizing to get to the truth.
  20. I don't think it's on there. There might be a work around? Not something I want to bother with.
  21. That will certainly speed up my timetable to do something!
  22. I'm in the same boat. You tube allows 3, but I still would like more.
  23. Might as well go to the game. We know you have been to plenty of weddings. Seen one wedding, seen em all. What we really want to know is how much you are going to bet on the game and how are you going to hedge that one.
