    I think that is one of many factors. The atmosphere, climate, and culture of IU basketball are all changing before our eyes. When that happens new things can grow and develop.

    Bates on Woodson and staff:

    “Past his own decorated personal achievements and accolades, he just stressed how important it was that he make me better as a man," said Bates. "Me and my family felt that being around him and the staff that he’s put together that they would be able to continue to build my mental capacity and just help me grow as a young man.  I’m going to be with them for a pretty important portion of my life and that was the one thing that was really important to us, being around a group of men that are going to build me and have my best interests first.”

    I am curious where we are with guys like Karaban, Shawn Phillips, Braden Smith, and a couple DC  kids from the prior efforts.  But we can see Coach Yasir and presumably Dane also have some connections.  

    I could see it becoming a race to get in so to speak. With the expansion of connections there may be an abundance of candidates for a limited number of spots. Could make for an interesting recruiting season as you say. Fun stuff and a nice potential change.

    First of all, Tamar Bates is a highly intriguing prospect to me. I don’t know if he will end up a five-star in the 2021 247Sports Composite, but I think he will at least end up close.

     

    He is a serious competitor who plays with a mental and physical edge. His instincts and burst of athleticism make him a dangerous defender and with his length he will be a versatile defender. Offensively, he seeks out and attacks his shot from deep. Bates can also attack either direction and can change direction on the spot. There is a jagged wiggle to his game and also an ability to score through contact despite his slender frame.

    His recruitment is still much in flux. Shaka Smart, who had signed Bates at Texas, is in a scholarship bind at Marquette. I have heard Oklahoma State and Missouri floating around. But again, I get the feeling that his recruitment is a good distance from settled.

    Going solely on a gut feeling I believe that we do. I could genuinely see it happening.
