I heard rumor of it yesterday and now the editor of the Butler collegian just tweeted about it.

Sounding like Fife is going to Butler with Matta.

Once the season started Woodson did things his way. He wanted it to be his program and do things his way. Thad didn’t really know what his job was at IU as the year went on.

Matta didn’t have an impact on the IU program. He helped out some before all the assistants got hired last year but that was about it. When Barry Collier walked across the street from his house to offer Matta the job and 2.4 million dollars he accepted. Matta leaving in itself isn’t that big a deal. Accept for the fact Butler now has the best college basketball coach in the state. Now if he happened to hire a recently fired assistant coach that could be much more telling. That’s a big hypothetical but it would be interesting if it happened.

The Big East is a very tough conference and getting tougher with its recent coaching hires. That said if Matta likes Lander after seeing him up close for an entire year then I’ll trust his evaluation that he feels like he can get more out of him.

You’ve also got the current guards that are the only decent players they had and the reason they made some noise in the Big East tournament.

Matta got to watch him an entire year so who knows. Maybe he thinks he can utilize him better.

Big Ten is a higher level than the Big East??? You might want to rethink that. In theory people like to say that but it’s not backed up much in reality.

Rumor has it Lander and Phinisee will be visiting Butler tomorrow.

I’d be curious to know if X happened to be on a zero tolerance type policy after his previous suspension. That could make sense with the comments he allegedly said at the county lock up if that was in fact accurate.

The bigger issue for IU is that Xavier Johnson got arrested. Not Thad going to Butler.

Supposedly he’s in good health and in it for the long haul at Butler. That said he needs to hire some good recruiters.

I´d put my money on Jeff Boals.

If Fife gets a head coaching job it will be at Evansville.

The name that has been floated around the most is Jeff Boals. The names Holtmann and Shrewsberry have been connected as long shots. Ronald Nored, John Groce, and Terry Johnson could also get looks. People have mentioned Matta but I think he is headed back to Butler in an administrative role to hire Boals.

Nope. Won’t happen. They’ve had this in the works and the replacement is going to be announced rather quickly.

Butler has fired HC LaVall Jordan.

He is not committing yet. That was just an edit someone made tagging him in it. Kind of confusing but it looks like a false alarm.

Smith, Loyer, Gunn, Essegian, and Grayson are the 5 finalists for Mr. Basketball.

Yeah those are the top 4. We’ll see if it stays that way once things get closer to the draft. It’s also hard to say what’ll happen happen with the lottery.
