I have to think, with his connections, CMW has high level options we have never even heard of. I am confident he will have a solid staff. Whether we know the names or not.

Fair enough. But the college game is continuously looking more and more like the NBA in style and strategy. That bodes well for us imo. Who better to teach that style than a guy that has lived it for so long? That is part of what has me optimistic.

You are discussing his winning % in the NBA? He had some bad teams and won some playoff series. What did Calipari, Pitino or Mussleman do at that level? They failed miserably and got booted from the NBA. Why has Woodson not gotten booted? Because he was known as a very good coach. You tell me any college coach that has/can win a playoff series in the NBA? It's such a different level. A level that HOF college coaches failed miserably at. Yet Mike Woodson was kept around. I think you are underestimating just how difficult and elite the NBA is. He has done more there than any current college coach possibly could. Now he is bringing that experience to IU.

None of those guys are remotely as credentialed as Woodson. Not close. They are the hot new names. Woodson has proven it for decades. And yeah, it does make me a little mad when people take shots at a guy that walked away from the NBA because IU is home, and this is his dream.

How in the world can people think this. He has a stellar reputation across the NBA. The toughest league in the world. How does a guy revered at the highest level, with a proven track record ever be considered the drunk fat chick. Mike Woodson is an elite level coach that loves IU as much, if not more, than we do. And we are gonna bash him like this? I dont get some of you.

The more I sit back and think, I am liking this hire more and more. Woody knows the game. His NBA record was mediocre, but look at the teams he coached. He coached several years at the highest level in the world, and won a handful of playoff series. His NBA track record blows away Mussellman, Calipari, Pitino etc. You do not stay in the NBA for decades unless you can coach. And who would be more up on NBA style offenses more than him? He will not be beat in x's and o's at the college level. Recruiting should be easier for the top recruits because nobody in college has a better understanding of what it takes to reach the next level. He has NBA knowledge and contacts. Add to it, he LOVES IU and he will certainly find the balance of being able to recruit NBA level talent while not sacrifice the program. He should have the perfect balance. I read, and agree, there is more high level coaching in one NBA playoff series than there is in a full college basketball season. I have no worries if he can coach at this level. The worry about him never have recruited before is an overblown fear imo. He can talk to a recruit and list all the superstars he has coached....kids will listen to that. I do wish he was a bit younger. But we have a guy that has coached with the best in the world for many years and flat out loves IU. Let's do this Coach Woodson!
