I live in Ohio and am not privileged to alumni relationships...could you give some examples of what you mean when you say that he is a jerk or has poor relationships?

Yes, on several alumni dinners where the coaches speak and then mingle with the major, high dollar donating alums he always seems to be the coach that is hard to find.  I’m not a major donor but I’ve been a guest to several of these dinners and let’s just say he and Tom Allen are polar opposites.  Tom is engaging and “works the room” for lack of a better term and makes it point to go to every person or table he can.  Archie on the other hand gives his speech and basically disappears.  He’s even not shown up to a couple of these, which to a lot of the big money guys is a major problem.  If he were winning at a hire rate would this be an issue? Hell no! He’s not however

Edit- I understand people are different but it’s really awkward for the coach of the flagstaff program to be this way to basically the people that write his checks.  I believe I’ve seen a few other members of this board at a few of these and they had the same feelings.  I’ll let them decide if they want to put their names out or not.

    There...fixed that for you...

Bob Knight might have "cut up" with Hammel or Chuck Marlowe, but the rest he mocked incessantly (Game Face?). You're right, though...I have as yet to hear Archie compare the press to prostitutes, or say everyone learned to write in 2nd grade but went on to better things.

You seem to have an "in" to the program, attending practices and such. Maybe Archie has been "a jerk" to you personally? I don't know. If you're basing it on the press conferences we all see on YouTube, I, personally, don't think you have much of a leg to stand on. He seems very professional to the press in those.

Judging from what I've read, most people think he's pretty congenial when he visits a high school to evaluate a player, and I believe one poster here even said as much after seeing it in first person.

But this is the type of thing that really turns me off. The BS about lack of recruiting after landing the last 3 Indiana Mr Basketballs...The BS about lack of player development, even in the face of kids like Juwan Morgan, Race Thompson, and Armaan Franklin...

And now come the attacks on his personality...What's the over/under for him pushing an old lady or kicking a dog?

Archie Miller will ultimately succeed or fail based on his coaching success or failure...There's no need to manufacture things to pile on...

There’s an ignore/mute button.  Use it!  It’s pretty well known that Archie is this way in “alumni club” and was an issue from the beginning. Sorry for not being on a mediocre coaches side that doesn’t understand IU basketball.🙄

Oh of course. To me it’s a signal about Archie. I can’t say for sure but I personally think he is just not flexible enough in his recruiting. He is so rigid with his system perhaps and not willing to compromise..I just don’t know but his seeming obsessive focus on just the defensive end just doesn’t seem to jive with most top 50 recruits. Whatever the case...I don’t expect UK level recruiting but IU has really never had an issue bringing in special talent. Davis, Sampson, Crean, Archie all have been able to land it but obviously when it isn’t happening at a high enough rate consecutively then problems happen. Archie isn’t Knight...he isn’t good enough to take mediocre talent and get them to the tournament. Most coaches to win at an elite level need elite talent. We’ve been able to land it in the past...I’m honestly surprised Archie hasn’t been able to land better out of state talent to go with our home grown kids.

Honestly Archie is a jerk, I’m sure he’s not that way to recruits but to many people he doesn’t have a great personality.  I thought that would work well for him at IU considering we had Knight but it hasn’t to date.  Knight would even cut up with the media a bit  but Archie is just stone cold all the time.

If his best offer is Toledo he isn’t B1G caliber...sorry just a fact. Archie starts reaching for kids that aren’t getting power 6 offers then that is a sign he is desperate. Archie rarely is one of the first to offer a kid...especially state kid. Something may change but I doubt it. We already see where mid 150s and 250 ranked backcourt is getting us...we need elite talent if we want to win at a higher clip.

Starting to sound eerily similar to Creans final years

OSU is up 37-19 at UI with 5 to go in the first half.  It seems like UI has problems in the first half then Underwood usually explodes on them then comes back in the second half.

That’s without both PGs.  Pretty impressive.  I remember having the discussion wether holtman or Miller was better when they both were hired.....🤦‍♂️

Appears Pacers made one more attempt to lock in Vic with what I believe to be a ver good offer and we’re denied, this pulled the trigger knowing he was not going to resign.  Good for them.

I’ll be surprised if he gets more money anywhere else.  Vic had a chance to be a Indiana Legend and chose to worry about his “brand” instead.  Best of luck Vic but you made a mistake in my opinion.

Does the fact that the Dipo/LeVert part of the Harden mega deal has been all over the media/internet but not yet announced by either of the teams seem fishy to anybody?

Not really, physicals have to take place even though they have been playing for their previous teams.  Plus both are on road trips I believe. (I know the pacers are)

Dont want this to come across as gossipy but former Greensburg Pirates star basketball player and Ball State alum Sean Sellers father passed from Coronavirus.  Man did a lot of great things in community and his youngest son is same age as.my oldest boy and competed against each other their whole life

Partially true but not entirely.  He was also was in the hospital for heart issues and kidneys were shutting down before the virus.  They thought they were going to lose him before the virus ever got to him.  Sean came home weeks ago from playing professionally over seas. John was a great guy and I loved golfing with him and being his student.  They live in our neighborhood and was always nice to see him when he would go for walks. He will be missed.

I agree... when he would post up to make a right handed layup he would instead dribble into the lane With way more traffic and take a way lower percentage shot. When I coach I preach high vs. low percentage shots to my kids. Developing a game to give yourself as many high percentage shots as possible is so key.

    Absolutely

Have posted this before but will again here.

Someone I know well who watched / scouted kids out East including Vic when he was at DeMatha, and who told me then that Vic (then averaging a double-double as an off-ball guard) was going to be an amazing college player and was grossly under-estimated by other scouts, has watched Geronimo in person and told me when he did - when we were recruiting him — that he is better than Vic at the same age.

Vic was also “raw” in some respects, shooting, offensive court awareness, to an extent his handle, but obviously was extremely gifted with great upside coming in. On my friend’s scouting it sounds like Geronimo is similar in a number of ways. And a better outside shooter - clearly - coming in.

Vic would not have gotten the floor time he did on this team. That benefitted his development. Geronimo may well take more time, but I wouldn’t underestimate his potential, he’s not just raw, he’s extremely talented

No doubt he’s talented, never said he wasn’t.  Vic is quicker Ger is bigger.  Geronimo is a better shooter to date.  Geronimos competition I know nothing about, is it high level?

  11. People need to lower there expectations on this kid in the short term.  He’s very raw, he’s an athlete playing basketball at this point. (There is absolutely nothing wrong with that.) He does however have some things you can’t teach, High Motor, Crazy length, and athleticism.  I don’t expect him to contribute much next year, hopefully I’ll be wrong.  I think he will be very good but it will take sometime.  Kind of looking forward to see how this staff can develop him.

Great article.  Only thing I disagree with is South saying they’re our rivals.  It’s a in county game sure but Batesville is our only true rival and North is Souths only true rival.  Most Greensburg fans cheer for North and South but most wont cheer for Batesville even if they made the state finals, I would though.  You still looking like Dallas Clark these days??

I am hoping eventually they will trade one of Turner or Sabonis because I don't see those fitting well together in the lineup.  If you package one of them with Holiday I think you could get a very good player back

I love Sabonis but of the 2 you’d have to trade him.  Turners rim protection is second to none.  I still think Turner has a higher ceiling that we won’t see until he’s under a different head coach.
