Because it’s in their interests. As Jay Wright said, KY’s freshmen will be better pros than college players as they mature.
There were seven NBA all stars this year from KYYep. Except none of them "were from Kentucky." Just hired guns who don't give a crap.

Unfortunately, the recruits are still buying into it.
Not the kind that matter.

His 4th tournament loss in last 5 tries makes me smile. Cheaters eventually get their due. Overpaid and overrated.
At least he's trying... 🤔

Awesome news. He is my mom's favorite player. She thinks he's cute.

If I were to build a college team from scratch, I'd start with Trey Galloway, Kel’el Ware, Malik Reneau, Mackenzie Mgbako, and Gabe Cupps. And MAYBE Larry Bird. Of course Larry Bird. We have the pieces. It's a good team. Just find somebody who can knock down 3's.

So, the program trajectory is not going in the right direction after an abysmal season. I know we’re all wondering: why the 4th year? If the chances of turning this thing are low then why not rip off the band-aid? I’m only coming to 2 conclusions.
1. Some people in power really think Woody is up for the challenge.
And bare with me….
2. The perception of fairness. I’m wondering if how quickly we got rid of Crean and Sampson came back to bite us. There is somewhat of a coaches fraternity in all sports where they bond over all the BS they have to deal with. In CBB, Izzo and K love to speak out and defend their own. Programs like ours that are, rightly or wrongly, rifling through coaches may be getting that ‘toxic’ reputation within the fraternity.
With all the high end coaching prospects out there, after Crean we made 2 underwhelming hires in a row. I can’t imagine either were top 3 (possibly top 5) on the AD’s wishlists. This likely means that high end coaches are saying ‘no’ behind the scenes.
We repeat it daily: we have the tradition, the resources, the money, the national exposure, a recruiting destination, fan support, etc. But if the candidates we go after do not perceive IU as being fair in their expectations, is it realistic to assume that we can lure them away from a competitive program they built?
This time, I’m wondering if Woody has to fall flat on his face to overcome the perception that we are jumping the gun by firing a head coach….one of our own….once again.
You edited your post, but somehow asking people to take their clothes off before reading further escaped your notice. 🤨

The rules have changed quite considerably. Almost nothing Pearl has ever been accused of is illegal now.
And who is the elite P5 coach they think they'll be able to land next season? I just can't think of any. Oats isn't happening. Nor is Beard. Drew will either be at UL or sign a massive extension with Baylor. It's now or never IU. Throw Pearl the contract you offered Stevens last time.
I want a coach in his mid fifties, has crazy ideas, his best friend is an alcoholic and his girlfriend is a college drop-out. Norman Dale, where are you?!! 😀

Pearl was just before his time…his antics and discretions were made for this new age of college basketball. Heck Harbaugh and UM just won a NC and those two are basically blood brothers when it comes to personalities and actions.
IU went that route. His name was Kelvin. It didn't work out so well if I remember correctly. And I don't blame Sampson - I never much liked him, but he was tossed aside for the stupidest of reasons.

This is what loser programs have to do.
Nice try, but this bass ain't biting.

I remember when USI won the D2 Championship. I had it on the radio. It was awesome. But Pearl was a handful. He and IU would have been oil and water. Pearl being the oil.

How didn’t he create the mess? He did. Zero recruits. Last year he recruited the players.
I'm talking about the last 10-20 years. Anyway, Coach Woodson swung for the fences and struck out. Badly. He forgot, or didn't realize, that IU isn't the place top recruits want to be anymore. IU needs a Ty Cobb. Hit a single, and if the fates are kind, turn it into a double. Then sit down on the bag and sharpen your spikes before stealing third. That's how you win. Small ball ain't glamorous, but it wins.

IU is becoming a portal program and I don't like it. Woodson didn't create the mess IU is in, but he's not the answer.

To be fair, the Simons have been involved with the Indiana Pacers since the early 80’s. I’m 56, and remember the day the Pacers had to have a fundraiser on TV in Indy to keep the team alive. Bobby & Nancy Leonard were asking people to donate $ to keep the team here post ABA days. Without Herb & Mel Simon’s purchase of the team, and commitment to keeping the team in Indy, the Pacers would be a distant memory. The drafting of Reggie Miller turned out to be the best decision post-purchase, and they nearly won the damn thing. I think they can do it again someday. It’s a different era.
All that having been said, it’s just a reminder that NBA experience doesn’t equate to college experience. The Simons have earned a lot of goodwill thru the Pacers and other projects, and it’s my sincere hope that whomever of the Simons is involved in keeping CMW in place no matter the results reconsiders that decision (if, in fact, they are part of this whole thing). Because currently that goodwill is being diminished by the refusal to look objectively at ROI on this head coaching position (again, assuming their involvement).
I remember those dark days. Drafting Cheryl Miller's brother instead of Steve Alford was a Godsend. I loved those Pacer teams.

I understand the intent of your age comment perfectly. My objection to it is there are Woodson detractors in the demographic as well as Woodson supporters who are outside that demographic.
Your post was directed at 1-2 specific posters in that demographic who are Woodson supporters. But instead of providing a counter-argument based on Woodson's performance, it became an age thing.
What IU needs is to hire a 30 year old vunderkind, the kind of coach that comes along only once in a hundred years. My only regret is that I'm getting old, I won't live till 2070. Also, crabgrass. Dandelions I can live with. They make good wine.

Really happy for the players and coaches. They’ve caught a lot of heat the past couple weeks (some deserved, some undeserved) and have responded. Props to them because I don’t know if I would have the mental fortitude to carry on when it’s been so toxic recently. It’s easy to just give up and they haven’t.
Just nice to see players smiling and fans taking a deep breathe and relaxing for a bit.
Gonna enjoy the moment while it lasts lol. It’s always feels nice to beat Maryland too.
"It’s always feels nice to beat Maryland too." It's also always nice to beat them two... times in the same season! LOL. Maybe in the BBT we can make it three!! I really don't like Maryland.

IU is a fun team to watch when they can make a few outside shots and hit their free throws.
