WSU’s defense would’ve ranked 5th in the big ten. I don’t really care what the PAC 12 as a whole looks like, with Rice we’re getting a guy who played on a tourney team that had a solid defense. Fwiw, IU’s defense (and offense) would’ve been in the bottom half of the pac 12.

I’m not trying to say analytics don’t matter but when you aren’t playing a similar schedule or opponents…well it’s not apples to apples. We played a much superior schedule. It ranked 29th vs 77th for Washington St. anyway my point is he will need to step up to both the offensive and defensive side of the ball coming to the B1G. I’m sure he can do it…but we all know the style of basketball from West coast to B1G is night and day.

Washington State ranked 26th in defensive efficiency last year while IU ranked 84th. Playing some PAC 12 level defense would be a huge improvement over whatever we were doing last year.

They had 4 teams in the tournament. One made it in the play in…and one made it with an automatic bid who had no business in the tournament. As bad as the B1G was last year the PAC12 is just a bad conference and playing in a league like that will warp your numbers. Some things you can use the eye test and see…the PAC12 and defense doesn’t go hand in hand.

I prefer to live life with tongue in cheek.  Life has thrown a lot worse things at me than the lack of RECENT success of my favorite college basketball team.  I'm not going to let that stop me from having a little fun at the expense of my rival, one who is a favorite of many of my family and friends

That’s good. I have a 5 year old little girl so I clearly have much much more important things so I hear you. I just think it’s more fun when you can congratulate your friends and family and their success doesnt bother you because you are having just as much success as them. Hopefully soon we both can celebrate because we both are winning championships. Rivalries are best when both teams win imo. Until then…have fun with your family and friends…life is too short not to smile and enjoy it! Sounds like you’ve figured that out.

In one of his pressers, he named four new backs as doing well and then referred to being impressed by the “new guys.”  Also said he was pleased with the group.  Impressive statement because he’s demanding and prickly in a great way.

Also said McCulley needs to pick it up.

Aren’t they all new guys? I mean he has only coached a couple that came over with him.

To be fair, it's hard to take out 7 games, that's a handful.  Lol

With that said, I am not at all concerned by it.

It will likely improve, and he immediately makes us a little better.

    Love this addition!

You’d think he would hit one just by accident…I mean it takes talent to miss that many in a row. Anyone checked to see if he had a draft kings app on his phone??

It's a common trait shared by schools  like Incarnate Word, Maryland-Eastern Shore, Texas Southern, Cal State-Northridge, Mercer, and Purdue.

It's sad in a way that not every school can be UCLA, Kentucky, UConn, UNC, Indiana, or Duke.

I’ll be happy to play the banner card again after we win one in this century. Until then I’m not throwing shade at anyone. We are a sorry program that hasn’t won anything in a very very long time. No B1G titles, No final fours, and no NCs.

The problem is he’s slow, and isn’t an exceptional athlete. Can anyone name a 7’4” player with those traits, that has been a success in the NBA?

I already posted his comp.(Marjanovic) I mean Yuo Ming would be probably closest to him in the past and he played in an entirely different NBA. No doubt he will be in the league. Will play some…but he isn’t a viable option…he will get torched at the defensive end….and despite Mike Woodsons opinion…the game isn’t played inside out in the nba. He will have a spot im not disputing that…but he isn’t going to be a starter and he will get exposed.

There are plenty of bigs like Jokic and Embiid but they are much more mobile and can play away from the basket. Plus every team could throw a 7 footer at him….his size won’t be nearly an advantage (almost all have a big like him that he won’t be able to push around…check the rosters). With the widened lanes…he won’t be able to camp underneath…just the whole game is different….now if he learns to face up and play…and is able to work on his agility and improve there…sure than…but I’ve never seen someone make the leap he would have to.

    Prepare to be shocked lol.

Won’t be the first or last…but I watch enough NBA basketball to see how he doesn’t fit. The game is played with even more space than college. Sure I can see him making a team and being a guy on the end of the bench getting a few minutes here and there but ever being a starter? No. So why would you invest a first rd pick in a player you can’t start? Again…I might be wrong but if I’m him I go back to school…take the guaranteed huge NIL money and try one more time for a championship. Nothing will change from this year to next. He will still be 7’4…still won’t be a fit for the nba game and his career won’t be any different.

I know a guy who always tithes 10% to his church. He never gambles, but the first time Powerball hit $1 billion he thought about buying a ticket but was conflicted. He told his pastor and said what should I do if I win, that's dirty money. The pastor put his hand on his shoulder and said son, don't worry, just give the money to the church and the Lord will clean it up

lol…I’ll tell you this…plenty of men that made their money in more seedy and unethical ways have turned their life to Christ and God has used their money in wonderful ways. Orphanages in Africa. Women shelters in S America…while I don’t anticipate him giving me money through the lottery I’m very sure he could “clean” it up just fine. I know for sure he would make better use of it than our govt does so I say good luck man!

For past several years, the number one issue has been recruiting. This issue has exacerbated any insufficiencies/deficiencies in coaching and/or scheme. We have not done a good job with scouting/player evaluation. This lines up with IU simply not having an overall program/team identity, at least from the outside looking in.

I don’t think it’s poor recruiting but more poor roster construction…and more importantly at the positions that have the biggest impact on the floor (PG ) but guards in general and having shooters that can space the floor or a dynamic athlete that can break down the defense and get to the rim. When we have had guards like that..we’ve been successful…we just haven’t had many of late.

I was joking but he would get a lot to come back. I think he’ll get a good shot in the league. Clingan is a projected lottery pick who is a really good defender and Edey easily won that matchup. I’m sure that opened some NBA eyes that may have been on the fence about him.

Clingan can shoot out to the 3pt line…he also is able to move his feet and block shots. Edey can’t play drop coverage in NBa. He has no future and I’m not saying that because he is a Purdue player…would be the same if he played at IU. He will be playing international ball or be a clone of this guy…minus the personality and girl obviously.

NC state got every shot they wanted. Just couldn’t hit them. Purdue had the same problem with UConn. Stopped you cold on D too.

NC St maybe didn’t win the battle but they won the war. You can’t tell me that physical defense they played on Purdue didn’t have an effect when UConn ratcheted it up even more late in the first half. Purdue had no legs second half. They were gassed and especially Edey. Too much physical ball had its effect and then add UConn just running their shooters to death through their motion offense…that was a tough back to back to have to play.

Recent rumors he may come back actually. NIL check would be enormous.

I’ve told people this 100 times but no one wants to listen. He will make more money at Purdue than NBA. His basketball career will likely be almost over once he leaves so why not stay.

    Perimeter defense won this game.

Oh no doubt. Loyer, Gillis, snd Jones could get nothing from the outside. Forced them to drive where UConns length was able to limit looks and passes. Smith played a good game for the most part and got some open attempts at the basket because they woukdnt leave Edey. That said he looked exhausted along Edey…all the minutes and the physicality and size wore on him. He will continue to get better and better but last night was the perfect storm to defend Purdue. Long athletic, switchable guys 1-4 and a big that mostly could handle Edey 1-1 and hold his own. It was a bad matchup for them…heck UConn was a bad matchup for just about anyone.

Most people would be pretty pumped about that no?

We would be sad…but we would switch seasons with you in a minute. It’s hard to win a Natty. You usually need to build a culture of success getting there a few times…or have a generational player. I know it sucks watching IU soccer come runner up so much lately but if you keep getting there you will eventually come out on top. That said I don’t think you will find safe quarters on an IU board tonight or for awhile. Its literally all most have oh here is the past because our present sucks.

That gate swings both ways...Karaban isn't going to be an easy guard for Renn-Kaufman

True…but I think Trey can move well enough to cover him. We shall see. No doubt Painter could go to GillIs instead. I think UConn guards can cover Purdue but if they have to start helping on Edey…well Purdue has shown they shoot much better than last year. They are a complete team…both of them really…so this could go either way. Should be a classic. All 64 teams in the tournament I think these are the two best equipped to beat each other.

  17. TKR and Jones will continue to be key players for Purdue. They are guys that will have opportunities tonight and it will come down to how they perform. UConn really doesn’t have a good matchup for TKR so I could see him doing some work against Karaban and it seems that Jones has been the guy left alone to shoot and he will get looks tonight. Those are my keys…of course outside whatever happens with the two bigs.
