Lol at the about face regarding use of the 13th scholly.

Unless we had a kid willing to come in and redshirt Hemingway would be a perfect fit. A home state kid. Used to playing limited minutes and having a defined role. If he catches a heater you ride him. Plays 2-3 and compliments Goode who will help at the 3-4. Veteran kid…with tons of bball experience playing at a high level. Won’t blink at the competition.

I'd like to think there's no way Milwaukee's bench could play that well in the second half, but the Pacers aren't exactly making anything difficult for them.

If we don’t learn to play defense I can only imagine the records Brunson or Embiid would put up against us. They have no dangerous guys in defend and we still can’t bear down. Certainly would trade almost our entire bench for a 3 and d wing.

Hemingway will not sniff Tucker minutes.

Tucker does not have a P6 ready body.  He has not proven himself against B1G level competition. I’ll love it if he does but he is a young freshman. I think by the end of the year he will carve out minutes and a role but he is not a 1 and done kid. He will or should be a 2-3 year kid.

I think this should be the rotation

    Rice/ Galloway

    Carlyle,/ Newton

    MM/ Tucker

    Reneau/Goode

    Ballo/ C from Monmouth

If Newton is ready to see the floor I’ll be absolutely shocked! The thing is we won’t be running NHL line shifts. These guys will flex between 2,3, & 4. Guys like Galloway and Goode and Mgbako.

Again this is if Hemingway commits I just don’t see Tucker playing ahead of him or Goode or Galloway. He will have to play really well to carve out a role.

Gallo isn’t a true pg but his command of the offense is so much better than Cupps. Cupps’ contribution on offense last year was to get the ball over half court and give up the ball asap, then run away from the ball. His per 40 assists were 2.1! Horrible for a pg. Gallo was 5.5. Cupps has to make a huge jump to be a backup pg.

I have a ton of faith in him. He has bulldog mentality on defense and he has a high basketball iq. I believe his confidence will grow this year and he will excel in this role. Galloway had a different role when the ball was in his hands but I think we all agree he played best off the ball his junior year shooting well and the floor opened up without him having to over dribble to get by his man. It will be best for him to go back to that role imo.

I cannot fathom taking Penix or Nix in the first rd. To each their own.

I don’t get why you get Kurt Cousins in free agency if you were taking a qb. Talk about not having a plan as an all organization. No leadership there. If they liked Penix they were going to be able to land him all along. Worst case scenario if they got cold feet they could have moved up a spot or two. Guy is now going to be like 26-27 years older of earliest when he starts and you will have given up the benefit of his cheap contect during his early seasons.

Its funny I heard on the radio a guy say it’s the equivalent of being married and falling in love with a hot girl at the club…well you don’t get to go to the club when your married. You have a family so too bad you’re committed. You don’t get to go to qb pro day and fall in love with a guys arm and spend a first rd pick. Just poor poor job running that team but I mean it’s the Falcons…they also passed on Bill Belichick because the front office feared losing power and influence.

True, but teams can and do manipulate the numbers...and I'm sure the McCaskeys hire experts in that field...

They all have to spend roughly the same amount. The difference is “how” the contracts are drawn up. The issue for most “small market” and “capital tight” owners is that they can’t afford to put the HUGE $$ into escrow for the giant guaranteed contracts as easily as those owners who are flush in capital. That can limit the structure of their contracts and the ability to attract and retain the most elite players in free agency. So teams can go cheap even when they are meeting cap restrictions. That’s why you see some teams trade guys instead of sign to big extensions as opposed to pushing the cap hits down the road.

Man I want to lock up our instate talent next year…take those kids and then add the best the portal has to offer from year to year and I think you can win a championship around teams like that. Indiana kids that will stay home and won’t transfer and establish a culture and add some portal magic to put us over the top.

Seems kind of quiet for such a post!?

Think we are a little gun shy because we heard a few other names as “locked” already and understandably they weren’t. With him you have to think a back up 5 will probably wrap things up….we would have 10 deep with a 6th year senior, a kid coming off major injuries, and likely yet another unused scholarship as the final 3. Perhaps you find a kid just willing to come for the check and be break glass if emergency 4/5 as well.

You have to actually win something first. There are a lot of pro franchises who’ve spent a ton of money in free agency and have nothing to show for it. This is uncharted waters for CBB. I’m glad that IU seems to be finally focused on getting in the game, but there’s no such thing as a “hot stove” championship.

Even more likely it ends up with nothing to show. Lots of good teams go 1 and done in NCAA tournament…who knows. I just want to watch enjoyable basketball again.

Indeed. It’s short sighted money grab. Kids will have no legacy anymore…any connections to an Alma mater etc will be gone because you sold out your schools. Something to be said for staying 4 years and building a lasting legacy and connection to the school that you will carry the rest of your life.

If he was worth a shit he would still be at purdue, right. I know, I know he was Painted over.

I’d actually say he is worth something which is why he will cash in to go somewhere else. If he was not worth anything than he would just stay where he is. He had options. People may not like him…I get that but he can play a good role…and actually fits better at Duke than he did at Purdue (and he was fine there).

Duke reaching. Just filled their 13th scholly

I actually think it’s a smart fit. Catch and shoot stretch 4. Doesn’t need the ball in his hands like the young guns. Will be surrounrded by playmakers and he can just spot up, rebound, and play defense. He will be an enforcer type in the ACC finesse conference.

First career playoff game.  Let's chalk it up to nerves and give the kid a mulligan.

Hope so…he needs to come out with a different mindset if we want any shot in this series. Only takes a bad series to really start to get into someone’s head. Beverly was owning him last night.

If Rice or Carlyle have the ability to create their own shots, it's a step in the right direction. IU has missed that as an option. Trey was the closest thing they had with his drive and floater. Then consider if Rice or Carlyle can also create open shots for others, it's even better.

The bonus is allowing Trey to move to his more natural position could  pay big dividends. When JHS  was the primary ball handler it allowed Trey to spot up for open looks. He had his best season offensively. It also allows him to get back to being disruptive on D. I believe he expended a lot of energy trying to be a point guard, which he is not.

Today they are much closer. Still need a shooter. Still need one more legit big. Must have insurance options who can step in for injuries.

I think we have enough guards if Newton is healthy. I think a stretch 4 that can shoot and play 10-12 mins would be the goal….shooting doesn’t have to be in the shape of a guard when there is so little minutes there.  A true back up 5 that can give you energy off the bench would be the other.  Not sure there are guard minutes there unless Newton redshirts again. Maybe there is a grad transfer with Indiana ties that would like to round out the team.
