Remind me how many games Woodson showed up to Ke'lel Ware in high school?
I'm not going to respond to all the quotes but geez guys. One game and you guys go 10 page postal on it?
You’re proving how little you know about recruiting. But that’s fine. Have at it

Just depends on the all important echo chamber....but in logic world not showing up for a game has literally zero impact unless of course this board has turned into 1988 world.
Say you haven’t followed recruiting without saying you haven’t followed recruiting. 😂
Holy cripes I’ve never heard anything like this before from an avid fan of college anything about recruiting and attending important HS games.

As much as I want it to be true, no way Dolson actually has the guts to can Woodson after 1 bad year. I’d argue it’s obviously still warranted based on the performance this year and middling success with 2 NBA players last year and the bevy of recurring problems. We clearly are directionless, it’s time, but I just can’t see Dolson doing it. Hope to be wrong.
I’m afraid you may be right unless boosters are calling for it but I’m not hearing that

here is a different take.. I was at 10 BNL games when Damon Bailey was a senior, committed in the 8th grade. Coach Knight was at every game. The one game i remember his jr. year playing against Calbert. Knight was there with Dickie V. Then at the end DD tells stories of losing Jacque Vaughn and Raef LaFrentz to KU because Knight wanted to play golf. When you show up you get players. When you dont you get fired.
I agree. I’ve followed recruiting in basketball and football for 30 years.
NO good recruiter misses key games. And if they do they’re at another key game and a key asst is at that one.
Recruiting is your life blood. If he decided to “take a day off” for a HS game like that it’s worse than anything I’ve seen on the sidelines or with X’s and O’s with this team.

You don't know for sure unless told.
You don’t know for sure if you’re told. Maybe they change their minds. Maybe they’re lying. Maybe they’re a clone.
You get my point.

Well I skimmed and it’s a mixed bag. So I’m nestled in to push refresh

Can't imagine telling the coaches they are done but then letting them pretend coach for the remainder of the season
Absolutely don’t say they’ve been told I say they know they’re done.

Not (no coaches) out watching in state recruits in sectional? Writing on the wall…
That’s exactly what I felt when I read that update. They know they’re done

What about Pearl?
I’m talking about a blue blood program we aren’t taking. Pearl is as much of a guarantee as you can get I agree

Coaching FAU and coaching at IU are absolutely 2 different animals too….
Correct. But we’re likely not hiring a former IU coach to coach IU nor will we land another big time coach who’s already currently successful at their school. So at some point we have to make an assessment as to how their potential translates.
Notice I use the word “we” because quite frankly this board among others play a critical role it helping this transition for OUR program.

Yeah, absolutely. I'm not against May by any means, I just wish he was a year further along right now and we could see how he did after his current core has broken up.
But, I would definitely take him right now too. Not #1 on my list, but would be a good hire right now.
He’d be number two for me

No question, but his FF team won’t win its conference this year with primarily the same players. They are an entertaining team to watch, but they play matador defense. Will his wide open offensive style play in the B1G?
Underwood brought his system to IL and it was a disaster. He would have been fired if he didn’t completely adjust. Would May be able to do the same and be successful?
The problem with basing too much on a single tourney run is just that…a single run here teams get hot.
That is my one big worry I need calmed.

FAU was nothing before May. He built it from ground up to a respectable team with a great outlook for the program as it stands now. They had only been to the NCAAT once (2002) before Mays arrival.
There is a reason he is in the Ohio St conversation. At only 47 years old, landing at the right spot could set him up for long term success at the highest level.
We screwed Wisconsin for RMK, let’s not let someone screw us for a great coach.
NOT saying May is RMK. Not even saying he’s a sure fire slam dunk. But dang it all I really don’t want to miss out on someone cuz we came late to the party.
If May turns out to be the real deal his destiny needs to be at IU lol

It’s not ridiculous. He shouldn’t be a candidate
IF a slam dunk like Pearl is agreed upon and in the bag would they let go of Woodson immediately after season and do an interim so that all the players know with certainty that a change is coming?

Agree. My thing with May is, I'm more interested in how he would do next year when some of his core is maybe gone as opposed to what he's doing this year with the same core.
Of course what he's done at FAU is overall incredibly impressive. But, can he lose some of that core he's had success with for 2 years and still sustain success?
Not saying he needs to get to the Final Four or anything, but can he still be a tournament team, etc., and compete for his conference?
I agree but at the same time we could hire a Pearl and miss out on him.
OR
we hire Pearl give him more time to prove himself and hope he’s still available when Pearl retires. I mean dang that would be ideal 😅

i would be thrilled with Beard, Pearl, Shrewsberry, or May over Woodson. i'm assuming Oates isn't realistic, but him too. i'd love to get any of them next season. i'd go in that order only because of Beard's age compared to Pearl. i'm not even a little concerned about Beard. that said, if people are truly in the know and know he'd never be hired, fine. if neither of them, i'm still just a little nervous about May because i still say you never know how someone does with the transition to the big stage. still admit i thought Archie would be great. others have assured me it is not the same, so i'd be optimistic. from what i hear i think i might be more confident in Shrews being successful. definitely put Beard and Pearl on a different level though.
For my own sake I’d love to hear what you’ve heard that makes May different. I’m fine with May but Miller is in the back of my mind because there were good reasons to believe he’d pan out. I was on the Archie train but NEVER was the Crean. I was shouting from the roof tops what Crean wouod ultimately become and he did just that.

I like Dusty May. If he can build FAU into a competitive and respectful program then he should do well with the IU brand and resources.
That said, if a more instantaneous approach is the goal, a coach like Pearl is the easy choice. His age is a concern for me though.
With the transfer portal, a good staff can build a roster fairly quick.
I agree. The safest bet is Pearl the better longterm upside is May. Agree 100%.

I think their standards are different. I don't think that means IU coming to a different conclusion means IU isn't serious about winning. It just means IU has higher standards than Ole Miss.
And an IU has more options IMO, because it has A LOT more going for it longterm if the right coach comes.
I really tend to think most IU fans don’t GET what IU has to offer a coach. Our fanbase loyalty, the recruiting base, the prestige, the facilities to an extent (still can improve), the money, etc…there is nothing about IU that would limit a coach who has the ability to win a national title.
That’s what Miller knew and said. Crean knew and said. If Crean could recruit as he did here, so many other coaches can recruit at that level and HIGHER. And there’s more than enough talent in our region, if plucked, to maintain a consistent top 10 program just like UNC, Kansas, etc. heck I’d argue we have better regional recruiting than some of the perennial contenders.

He’s gonna milk this win all the way to the next game and after that one if we lose. If we go .500 at the end he’ll say “well if you combine how we started and finished the season we showed we were a good team.”

Is that actually new knowledge though?
Pearl has openly talked about the job, but I am still not 100% convinced he’d actually come because of his loyalty to Auburn and their ability to match pay. Is there new info or just the same hunch people have had for a long time?
Just rumors that they’re in talks but just rumors

Pearl isn’t a longterm answer but he’s probably the single safest bet for us to get ourselves consistently back to a very GOOD program year in and year out.

There should be a clause in contracts that simply state “yea BUT if you suck like REALLY bad, and you’re embarrassing yourself and us, u mean you gotta go and we ain’t gonna pay you the buy out dude.”

Coach Mike Woodson Megathread
in General Basketball Discussion
Posted
Some don’t get it. They look at it way too simplified. That it’s merely “coach shows up at a game and he gets a recruit or loses a recruit.”
that’s pure ignorance of how this game within a game is played and works or fails
