I posted this article in the general 2022 recruiting thread because it had info about a lot of our recruits, but I thought this quote deserved to be in the Mullen thread too.

"Mullen hasn't named an outright leader, but some close to the recruitment would be surprised at this point if he doesn't join his older brother at IU."

You would have to think older brother will be in the NFL next year.

why do you say he only plays 7,8,9 guys?  i would think NBA guys would be thinking to play more guys and in a scripted sub pattern.  i hope you're right!

I wasnt thinking 82 games when i wrote that because if i watch the NBA at all its the playoffs when rotations get smaller and all the mins go to 8 or 9 guys. in a 30 game season i can see CMW using a playoff style rotation. I should have been more clear.

  3. Loved CMW comment on Trace has to become a more willing player scoring at the rim. I thought far to many times in the past he gave into the contact and just threw the ball toward the basket wishing it in. Even his little jump hook he was looking for the bounce.

I also loved his comment about players not liking being recruited over. He said he wont ever tell a kid it wont happen. He wants the best players and players that want competition. Love It!!

Wow. Awesome stuff. I played Slazenger back in those days...and honestly don't remember the reason why. I think I liked their spaced dimples. Haha. Thanks for sharing. Still amazed at those scoring numbers. I have a friend who is 2-3 handicap and we've talked often about Augusta and what we would shoot there. I tell him 90-95 at his best.

Tee to green Augusta is nothing. Its the greens that get you. If it's not masters week they slow the greens down and you can play to your handicap.

The hardest Golf course i ever played was Isleworth CC where a lot of Pro's live. Where Tiger's ex did a 5fouls job with a 9 iron to his car....lol It was a event to raise money for Bruce Edwards, Tom Watson's old caddie who was fighting ALS. Chris DiMarco was my partner in alt-shot and we were playing a couple of guys who paid to play with us. The greens were so fast, Chris left me a 3 foot putt i hit the hole and he had 10 feet coming back. After the 3rd time i did it to him, he yelled at me, you know Tiger shot 57 here yesterday, its not that hard.

Do you mind telling me how long ago this round was for the 112? It's a subject of great fascination to me and friends on what we would shoot with today's technology,etc...

Ryder Cup was in 91. We played it in 92' Daly had just won the PGA at the end of 91 and I was playing the Wilson Killer Whale. It was the start of the big head drivers. We were still using Bakata covered golf balls. Thats pretty close to when the golf ball started to change. Those balls would spin back 60 feet. Maxfi had the best ball and players at the time and then their plant in Japan burnt down and they left the golf business. I remember Fred Couples, Greg Norman and Nick Price all went to the Tour Edition gold ball. If you were paired with them you couldn't walk a head on the green because they couldnt control the spin and might bring it back 100 feet. lol. 3 of the best ball strikers of all time couldnt keep the ball on the green. Callaway took over the game after that and destroyed it the same year.

  6. never understood why Baseball players can go pro out of high school but basketball players cant.

(just trying to throw something about basketball into this baseball thread on the basketball board. MODS is that ok, dont want to screw up a baseball thread on the basketball board.)

  7. I dont know if anyone remembers the Ryder Cup being played on this course. Guys were shooting 90. I played it years ago, old equipment, with 3 club pro's , one played on tour for a few years, he finished 2nd once, so a good player. He lead our group at 112. I was a 3 or 4 handicap and shot 135. Compair I shot 74 at St.Andrews. That same year the guy that shot 112 shot 69 at Augusta National.

  8. Phil being Phil. Was paired with Phil one time. He 4 putted the first hole for double, 3 putted the 2nd  for bogey. Walking to the next tee he tells Bones, i don't feel like i have much today lets play to the center of the green and see what happens. Phil birded the next 7 holes, turns 4 under. Shot 3 under on the back for 65, starting 3 over.  Phil being Phil.

Thompson High school is a powerhouse down here. It's usually Thompson and Hoover, then everyone else.  Our school dropped down a class due to enrollment,  but used to play them.  Didn't see him play last fall, but their QBs are usually high D1 talent. (Tua and his brother attended Thompson)

I'll ask around for details on him.

I lived in Prattville and they were also really good. Its been a min. So that might have chaged...

Even right there at the start of OT, what is the strategy to kick the kickoff back and then just drill down field to turn it over?

Every time i watch this team play the ball is on our goal end 80% of the time. maddening to watch. This game looked just like the loss last year in the cup final.
