Can you imagine if Villanova gave up on Jay Wright or Duke gave up on Coach K after 4 years? Or Virginia gave up on Tony Bennett after they lost to a 16 seed.

    Give up on them???

That would indeed have been surprising because Wright took Nova to the sweet 16 in year 4 and in year 4 coach K finished 3rd in the ACC and made it to the second round. And imagine if “UVA gave up on Tony Bennett after they lost to a 16 seed”? Come on...in the previous 4 years they won at least 1 tourney game, went to a sweet sixteen, went to an elite 8 another, they were first in the ACC a few times and you are comparing Bennett’s result with our last two years of 9th and 10th conference finishes?

Archie will be in decent shape if he comes close to matching those guys  by finishing in the top 5 or so in the BT this year and wins at least one tourney game.  I’m skeptical but hope that happens.

And continued belief that Ketchup is going to REALLY help once he is back.  Guess there were some classroom issues to clean up, so he won't be back for a few more weeks.  That's what some RR members were stating this AM.

I honestly thought that a UK player having issues in the classroom was an impossibility. Just assumed their report cards were filled out before the semester started.

Not a good start for MSU at Duke with 10 minutes to go in the half

3-15 from the floor and 6 turnovers down 16-7 and luckily for them Duke is shooting 28%

It’s really a weird year with covid.

Have to wonder how, or if, MSU would have responded, after starting 3-15 with 6 to’s, if Cameron was packed with students going nuts

Since they have went to the one and done model they won one championship.

And they were in the Elite 8 each of last two years.
In the last 5 years of one and done they have a sweet 16, two elite 8’s and a national championship.  Is that failure? “Only” one national championship......we are on year 37 and hoping for a 6-12 seed.

The Duke / UK recruiting strategy just does not work in today's game.

Duke should emulate IU as their strategy has clearly been an abysmal failure.

I mean in the last ten years of the tourney they have only....

2 years - year ended winning a National Championship

3 years - ended in the elite 8 ( so they made the elite eight or better 5/10 years.....pretty damn good)

2 years - year ended in sweet 16

    1 year - round of 32

2 years - lost in first round

    10/10 years making the tourney.

I realize a lot of fans like to deride Duke when they do not get as far as advertised but man it would have been fun to have had IU be in the hunt each of the last 10 years, in the tourney all 10 years while winning 2 more nattys.

No.  We have Archie's Dayton resume.  He didn't forget how to coach.  He's just a slow but steady builder.

Don't forget what RMK said about him...and he said that about no other IU coach since his firing.

Knight also thought Pat Knight was a good successor at TT ...LOL

  7. I am stunned that posters are giving up on Howard at Michigan. This is only the beginning of his second season so lets not forget, as Scott has told us many times, that Coach K, Beilein and Bennett started out with collective three year records of 0-270. We are at least 6-8 years from being able to evaluate Howard.

I don't think anyone has said they are satisfied with the current results.  what some can see is a gradual improvement each year and it is talking longer than we expected.  I get it that people are impatient and want instant gratification but that doesn't always happen.  I know some will come back and say they have been waiting 25 years o they have been patient but Archie should not be blamed for the the 22 years before he got here.

I agree with you that Archie, and the team, should not be blamed for the 22 years prior to his arrival.

At this point, however, I don’t think expecting/hoping for a better than 7th-9th type of finish in the conference is “instant gratification”.  I’m not looking for a natty, and really like the foundation that is being built, but would like to see improvement from the BT records of 9-9, 8-12 and last years 9-11.  I’m curious when you think having higher exceptions is no longer considered instant gratification? 4,5, 6, years?

I dont have time or care enough to look up leafs contract. Just a random number that a majority of first rounders make in their career.  Comparing Rose and Leafs background are crazy. For a guy like Iverson this is true for guys from middle to upper class not so true. The social norms of the classes are not comparable.

The goal for a career is to reach the pinnacle

I looked it up and Leaf signed a guaranteed 4 year contract. The 4th year, for the 2020-2021 season, is for 4.3 million which will bring the total 4 year payout to 11,576,000. At the end of the contract he will be 23 and have earned over 11 million. Not shabby.

Tis is the list of the all NBA for 2018-2019.  I did not take the time to look but a lot of these players were not 5 star recruits.

I don’t quite follow the point you are proving with your post (disparage the rankings ?) but......

Three the 15 players above are overseas and thus were not included in Rivals or 247 rankings.. Of the remaining 12 players 7 were 5 stars.  An additional player was a high 4 star.  On the other side of the coin Lillard was only a two star.

In a given year roughly 500,000 males play hs  basketball so roughly 100,000 are seniors.  Of the 100,000 or so seniors an astronomically low 25-30 are 5 stars but 58% of the above players were 5 stars. If anything I think that speaks to how the odds (not a guarantee by any means) of 5 star players being good is pretty impressive.

Back to the topic....glad we got Logan and hope we finish strong with Kaufman.

But it has showed lately that teams that wins the championships don't have one and done players on them.  Also if it is just one OAD player that is alright but I don't ever want us to be built around OAD players like UK and Duke.

I’m also not a fan of the one and done rule and agree with you in that I don’t want us to be built around one and dones.

That being said, however, in regards to the statement “it has showed lately that teams that win the championships don’t have one and done players on them”.....actually 4 of the last 8 champions have had at least one, or more, one and dones which means teams with a “one and done” have won proportionally more recent championships (because most teams do not have a OAD) than those without.

He also taught History....but overall an educator of young men...funny thing is I imagine he taught those young men more about life and preparing for success then all those other professors combined. I will say....it’s been a long time since I’ve found much of anything meaningful to my life from a journalist. Long time.

Maybe they have not impacted your life but I think that journalists that have reported on wars, helped free innocent imprisoned people, exposed financial frauds, priests, corrupt politicians, etc etc have evolved (and helped society) quite nicely from the time they learned to write in second grade.

I realize that RMK was trying to be funny but I do continue to find his comment a bit ironic.
