I think that would’ve been Shannon’s 5th foul too. The stretch that ended it started there. Missed call leading to 2 points for Illinois, Xavier misses 2 free throws, Illinois goes down and scores. Go from tied to down 4 just like that.

Liked the effort and defensive intensity in this game. Was always going to be though to get a road win against a top 10 team. That being said, the shooting - both 3 point and free throw - is atrocious. If we were even just below average in either we win this game. It’s just frustrating to watch thinking everything has to go right to win. At this point in the year, we basically have to go 8-3 the rest of the way just to be in the tourney conversation. The one bright spot in this game is we finally got a glimpse of good Xavier. We will need that consistently if we want any chance at finishing strong.

It was a decent play call, they defended it really well though.

100% of it is because of reputation. If that’s a tech, there could be 30 techs called a game. But yeah, X need to realize refs will use any reason to call him for a tech due to his reputation.

Exactly. Shooting twos isn’t a bad thing if they’re around the rim. It’s our fondness of the midrange that’s infuriating. The free throw percentage is also incredibly frustrating.

Feels like we should both be up 5 and down 10 at the same time. 18 minutes of basketball was good enough to be in the lead. 2 minutes of just really bad basketball which is why we’re down.
