  1. I legitimately don’t know. Like I said, I’m not necessarily following Nebraska basketball closely. I just saw that Miles seemed to be doing ok at the end of his tenure, and Hoiberg still hasn’t gotten back to that level in 4 years. Then I look at a program that was in terrible shape and historically worse than Nebraska like Rutgers when Pickell took over, and he had them in the tourney in year 4 if it wouldn’t have been cancelled. I’d call that great coaching/program building. I just can’t call someone a great coach who has had 7 straight years without a winning season between two different teams. I understand it’s not all his fault, but it doesn’t look good. I mean there’s a legitimate chance he could’ve been fired last year if they didn’t get hot down the stretch and pull out those OT games. For me personally, I’d need to see him have a couple of good seasons first.
  2. I feel like KenPom is a good sign of how good a team is, and even without it the eye test tells me this is one of the worst IU teams in recent years up to this point in the season. I guess the optimistic view is that last year it looked like we were free falling at this exact same point in the season and we turned it around. The difference is last year’s team showed a lot of promise earlier in the year and had good veteran leadership which this team is sorely lacking. If we’re looking for positive stats, the last two games were two of the better defensive performances of the season. Torvik had the Ohio State game at an adjusted defensive rating of 94.6 and Rutgers at 90.6 - and it’s adjusted, so it’s already accounting for Rutgers being bad on offense.
  3. Agreed that he was good at Iowa State, but I guess I’m just not impressed with his Nebraska tenure. They exceeded expectations last year because he’s put together bad teams. Again, he still hasn’t had any teams that were as good as the last 2 teams that got Miles fired. So he’s literally taken over for a coach that was deemed bad enough to get fired, and been worse than him for 4 straight years. That’d be enough to get fired from a lot of college programs. Like I said, I like their team this year, so maybe it just took him awhile to get going, but I’m not convinced.
  4. We could absolutely lose vs Minny, not saying it’s a lock at all. I’d actually say Minny is probably a slightly better team than us at this point, but I think it being at home makes the difference.
  5. Funny thing is the game between they lost at Wisconsin 88-72. They just really like 16 point games.
  6. I’m admittedly not a close follower of Nebrasketball. But it looks like when Miles was fired they were in a decent spot, 2 straight years of 50ish ranked teams, but not quite tourney caliber. Then Hoiberg takes over and has still not had a team as good as Miles last 2 years. Am I missing something?
  7. Eh, I need to see a little consistency before I call Hoiberg a decent coach, let alone a really good coach. He’s had 0 years above 500 at Nebraska before this year. I do like the way this year’s Nebraska team plays though.
  8. Tominaga is one of the most fun players to watch in college bball. Just hit a Steph Curry esque three against Purdue.
  9. I think we beat Minnesota, but still have the same problems and outlook on the season. We either need to win most of these types of games, where we’re playing the mid to lower half of the big ten on the road, or we need to beat the upper level teams at home. I haven’t seen anything to suggest either is likely.
  10. Coaches for sure. If it were a one year thing you could blame it on the players, but it’s clearly something that’s not taught well or emphasized as a part of the system.
  11. I don’t think you need athleticism to rebound well. Towson and St Mary’s are top 5 in offensive rebound rate, most of the top 10 defensive rebounding schools are smaller schools (like army), or schools that aren’t necessarily athletic like Wisconsin. Athleticism and size help. But it starts with basic stuff like boxing out and effort.
  12. 4-15 FT, 19 Rutger offensive rebounds, and 18 IU turnovers. All signs of undisciplined play and poor fundamentals. Completely unacceptable.
  13. The best way I can describe that game is undisciplined, poor fundamentals, and just a lot of dumb plays.
  14. Yup. Missed some good looks and a dumb play to likely put it away seems fitting.
  15. That guy is an 87% FT shooter. We should absolutely not have been looking to foul him. The foul was dumb.
  16. Still 4 minutes left in a 10 point game. Would require some mental toughness and a high level of execution that I’m not sure we’re capable of, but the game isn’t over yet
  17. We’ve now had 3 separate players airball wide open threes.
  18. Missed free throws, giving up offensive rebounds, and turning it over. This has been fundamental malpractice.
  19. Rutger has one of the best defenses in the country paired with a horrible offense. This has been a fairly typical Rutger basketball - if you can call it that - game so far. If we were playing someone else, the game would probably look a lot different.
  20. The inability to make free throws at an even below average rate is infuriating
