  1. An IU doctor is doing a Reddit AMA about his recent NYT column on COVID - just started at noon, but already has a ton of posts. For non-Redditors, an AMA is a regular feature by people (usually famous/semi-famous, or experts) called "Ask Me Anything." And you guessed it, people ask them questions related to the subject. Should be interesting.
  2. Oh man, SO good. Haven't listened to him in ages. Reminds me of the time when my wife and I were at a very small concert in Bloomington and the opening act was this "unknown-to-us" act called Jurassic 5. Now, they are the group that we have seen the most live - saw them recently here in Brooklyn and it was the all original guys with grey in their beards. J5 - Quality Control Just good music with a good beat and good message!
  3. Thanks! It's definitely a lot of work putting them all in there. I think I had like 200 albums when I started inputting them. I would just do a 10-20 each evening. Now, I just add them shortly after I get them.
  4. Love Discogs! It's the best way to track what I have and make sure I don't buy repeats. This is my Discogs collection: https://www.discogs.com/user/TheIncredibleHoke/collection I've purchased tons on albums through Discogs, even a bunch of jazz from Japan. Are you on Discogs too? Even though I prefer listening to records, I definitely recognize the importance and ease of streaming. It's also an incredible way to sample things before you decide to buy the whole album. Yep, @tdhoosierwas the one who turned me onto Khruangbin on here and now I have two of their albums on vinyl. 🤠
  5. Glad I'm not the only one! And I really love the larger artwork of albums and the cool detailed liner notes in print size that I can still read. I was a child of the cassette (and boombox) age too - ended up listening to cassettes more than vinyl as a teenager, b/c we were always on the move. Cassette player in car and those huge battery-eating boomboxes. I did end switching over to CDs when they were all the rage, but then end up selling my collection when MP3s became popular. The only thing I am missing is the dedicated room like you have. My stereo is right out in the middle of our living room/kitchen area, but all my albums are stashed in a big closet and a couple credenzas. I'm currently at my limit for storage space though.
  6. Good old Columbia House! A Terre Haute facility that fueled many a vinyl and cassette collection! I really like the old fashioned look of that.
  7. Love those rare occasions where you can just crank up the music w/o headphones. I stream a lot at work or on the go and sometimes at home when I'm feeling too lazy to get up and flip sides. Am probably 50/50 streaming and vinyl. Streaming for convenience and vinyl for best quality sound. Though some of the newer streaming services offer really high quality streaming and downloads - Tidal and Qobuz are both great.
  8. Anyone here still spin vinyl? I started rebuilding my collection about 15 years ago - after a cousin sold all my albums when I was in boot camp. 😠
  9. The skies in the west are just unreal now. Hope it doesn't get bad enough that we can see on the East Coast.
  10. This is probably a good time to post this about how incredibly difficult moderating online communities has been this year in light of COVID and related fallout. https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2020/08/25/volunteer-moderators-2020/ Much love to the mods here, b/c you guys have created one of my favorite (and most pleasant) places on the internet.
  11. Nice, I'll have to look for that one. I love Ballast Point's Sculpin IPA. I should have grabbed some Gumballhead too. Love that one as well. Have never had Robert the Bruce though. I've noticed that a lot of breweries are doing expanded shipping and delivery lately to increase sales. I just ordered some Burial Beer from Asheville and it should arrive on Monday.
  12. Took a walk to a new Mexican place for lunch and stopped at a small gourmet shop on the way home. I literally almost fell to the floor in shock and amazement - they had a full selection of 3 Floyds beer in their fridge! 🤯 Picked up some Alpha King and Zombie Dust. Never thought I would see the day when 3 Floyds arrived here. This is better than Bells arriving about three years ago. I know there must be some 3 Floyds peeps on this thread.
  13. 🤠 I know it's morbid, but my wife and I are waiting patiently for real estate prices to drop. We do not have the money to buy here, but if townhouses start dropping below $1M... Our building has a few empty units now, they never do normally. But they are only offering 1 month free rent to people so far.
  14. Wow, that's rich. Unfortunately, we can't talk about what his opponent said. I also though I put you on ignore already? Lemme fix that...
  15. "Ignore what happened earlier"? I f8cking lived it - over 800 deaths a day, sirens 24/7, and people terrified to leave their houses. While you were yammering about it being overblown... Our healthcare (besides the horrible nursing home debacle, which still pisses me off) response was the reason it wasn't worse. I know this as an administrator in a huge hospital system. FL handled it better? 🤣
  16. Seriously? NYC and NJ got slammed by this when the rest of the US still thought it was "a hoax." Yet, we did what was needed to reverse it and are down to single digit deaths daily. Yesterday, FL had 202 deaths and Texas had 126. This is AFTER months of living with this and we have learned more about the virus. Would have been interesting if COVID arrived in FL first instead of NYC - that would give a new meaning to competent leadership (or lack of).
  17. Exactly. This is the one holiday that would be an easy flex.
  18. You could really get creative with Halloween costumes and socially-distanced trick or treating! I don't really agree with cancelling Halloween. Life has pretty much returned so some type of normal here. Tons of people out, outdoor dining and drinking everywhere. Big avenue near us is closed down on weekends and tons of people are out talking and playing in the street. Sure, people are wearing masks and keeping their distance, and entry to indoor establishments is limited to a certain number of people, but life is still happening here. Not sure what this will look like when the temps start dropping though. Could be a long and dark winter! We ordered a heat lamp for our terrace.
  19. Thank you, Mile! Hope you guys are okay with all the smoke and weather weirdness.
  20. Doing well here! One summer, I lived with my Mom in Boulder right after getting out of the military. I think I got there in late May and we had a huge snowstorm in late May/early June that really messed up the trees with branches on them - wet and heavy snow! But, yep it was all melted the next day.
  21. I saw something about this in the NYT this morning. Crazy temps swing and definitely a weird weather event!
  22. She LOVES beer. When she was a pup, her favorite was Upland Dragonfly. But as she's grown older I don't let her drink beer (especially really hoppy, high alcohol beer) as much, as they say hops are actually poisonous to dogs. Who knew!
  23. It took me some time to convert, but I'm finally there! What are some of your favorites?
  24. It's funny, my thing in NYC is "I don't wait in lines." Drives my wife crazy. But here in MD on Saturday, I waited in line starting at 7am to pick up some limited release beers and this glass (they only made 200 and they were gone that morning). I got another glass that's even cooler, but no pics yet. I'm a sucker for cool beer glasses!
  25. I finally found a sour beer that I can stomach and enjoy. This one is an easy drinking sour ale from RAR Brewing that is brewed with tangerines. It really is a perfect summer beer at only 4.5% alcohol. I also dig the retro 1980s BMX bike label design.
