  1. Man, that looks great. Going to leave it clean or plant some trailing plants to take over?
  2. I missed this earlier, but wanted to quote it to say that I am EXACTLY the same. My poor wife gets multiple daily updates about flowering and fruiting on each of our tomato plants. 😂
  3. That's not cool at all. It's just idiotic to be out there yelling unprotected. I will say that the protestors here have been been wearing masks for the most part. Now if we can just get all of the European tourists visiting Manhattan to actually wear them... We had to take our dog into Manhattan for chemo treatment on Friday and saw dozens of tourists not wearing masks - not even around their neck or in "chin strap" position. My wife looked at me and said, "We are doomed."
  4. I agree that both types of street gatherings are likely to increase spread. It might be that the juxtaposition of images of largely masked protestors moving and not huddling together with these maskless people huddling together talking. The two events are not equal. Also one event is to fight injustice, while the other is to fight boredom. It's difficult to live in the epicenter and see ignorant people acting like this b/c they are tired of sheltering in place. You can be out and about and still be smart.
  5. Our Super Sweet 100 cherry tomatoes are going insane here. Probably have a couple dozen little green tomatoes already! We get a lot of sun and heat up here on the terrace. My slicer tomatoes are flowering, but no fruit yet. One thing kind of disturbing this year is that we haven't seen any bees yet. Just some yellow jackets when our peony plant was blooming. Am hoping they are just getting a late start this year.
  6. i guess people in Manhattan don't realize we are still in a pandemic. Full disclosure, we would never walk down St. Marks on a weekend night b/c of all the trashy people lined up on the street, but still... https://twitter.com/hellolanemoore/status/1271641826252988417?s=20https://twitter.com/hellolanemoore/status/1271641826252988417?s=20
  7. That was my favorite part - when they slowed it down and zeroed in on her expression. She knew her life was going to be a bit different from that moment. How about not act like such an a**hole to your fellow citizens?
  8. From a Youtube account called "Deep State Exposed" that was created one month ago and the only other video is on "Obamagate." 😂
  9. I DID! That video is insane. I think they ID'd her on Twitter and if that's her she works at Cornell Medical Center. Can't imagine she will have a job for much longer.
  10. And only 7% of the US population has been tested.
  11. I would not exactly use the term "offering hope" to this double lung transplant story. Weird title if you ask me. Also, the picture of that lung looks worse than the "scare lungs" they used to break out in middle school don't do drugs assemblies. This is something our docs have been worrying about as it seems like the lungs are really being hit hard. Young woman in her 20s.
  12. I love that about YoutubeTV - you can cancel, start, cancel, start whenever you want. I always start it for IUBB season and then cancel after the tournament. Had to cancel early this year obviously.
  13. The Americans is so good. They really nail that 1980s feel in America.
  14. I'm always fascinated how the whole thing played out, esp. with the weather and the limited amount of forecasting they had back then.
  15. Here's a pic, if you can let a plant flower might be worth it for the flowers and the bees. I had NO idea that artichokes would do this if left alone. Nature is incredible.
  16. Letting them go to seed is why I want to plant artichokes. Apparently the bees go insane for the pollen when you let the artichokes flower and go to seed. The huge purple flowers are really prettty too. But they really take up a lot of room. Fennel looks so airy and cool when you let it flower too. Has a wildflower look to it.
  17. That's one advantage I have on my fourth floor terrace over you guys! No pests -besides our two dogs. We also have super hot sun during the day, I've never had tomatoes and peppers grow so well as they have on this terrace in big containers. Fennel and artichokes are the two things I want to grow, but really don't have the space for. My wife would love some shallots too, but we just can't fit them here.
  18. Yahoo is exactly right. It never gets old seeing those first maters popping each year!
  19. After a lot of rain/sun over the past week my tomato plants are really going nuts. Am already seeing little tomatoes fruiting right on schedule. Peppers are doing okay as well, one plant already producing peppers, which is a little early for here.
  20. Even here, opening is happening, but in a piecemeal way. Yesterday, we had to take our dog into Manhattan to our oncology vet. Last week, we drove in and out w/o any traffic at all. Literally took twenty minutes to get from our house in Brooklyn to our vet in the Union Square area. Lots of restaurants were doing delivery and carryout. We had to wait about an hour for the xrays and ultrasounds, so we walked up to Madison Square Park. Shake Shack was open. No line, but they were open and there were probably about a dozen people sitting around and eating at outside tables. Yesterday, the city was pretty much boarded up and closed down (due to looting, not COVID obviously). Shake Shack was closed (bummer!). But we found a Mexican place that was doing carryout food and drinks. One sad moment was when an older couple tried to sit down on a row of benches. You could tell they were trying to maintain safe distance because of COVID, but there really wasn't that much room. We got up and gave them our seats and they took them. Then other people came and started crowding them. How do old people navigate this? There are a lot of elderly people in NYC and I really worry about them. They are sick of being locked up too, but how can they trust people to respect their distance? They really can't, b/c people largely suck. Here in Brooklyn, probably 60-70 percent of our restaurants are doing some sort of business. Directions are posted on their websites and on their windows. Each business is handling it very well and the customers are figuring things out. Next week, businesses can start offering curbside pickups. I'm looking forward to book stores reopening in some capacity. I think people here are starting to let their guards down a bit. People are still being careful, but there are many more people out. The numbers look better here and have been trending down. Not sure what the numbers will look after all of this protesting, but we'll see.
  21. Looks like a cat with some personality! I'm probably more of a dog person, but I do think cats are super cool. I've had cats much of my life, but our place is a little small for a litter box.
  22. Pots are expensive. And soil. And cages. It's all kind of expensive, but oh so worth it in July and August.
  23. Exactly! My wife just didn't see the point in growing our own veggies at first. Even the first year, she was like "sure it's cool to have herbs and the tomatoes are better." But last year's tomato crop (Giant Syrian and Matt's Wild Cherry) blew her away. The first time we had a fresh Giant Syrian that I had just picked, with mozzarella, basil, and olive oil, she totally got it. "THIS is a tomato!'" she said." Easily the best Ive ever tasted." Now she loves being able to just walk out on the terrace and grab rosemary, basil, and sage at any time. And we eat a LOT more tomatoes and peppers when I am constantly harvesting them. Our neighbors love the tomatoes as well. I've become that old man in the neighborhood that gives everyone produce all the sudden. And I'm totally fine with that!
