I’d agree with @Stlboiler23. Definitely behind Horvath and Doerue. But we don’t have a lot behind those 2, so we can definitely use him. Hopefully he can get a waiver and play this season.

The portal could be a factor with some of these kids too. Do you offer the HS kid who might take a year to crack the rotation, or the plug and play guy in the portal next spring? Not sure there’s a right or wrong answer.

For some reason, I’ve always liked the Canes. Probably goes back to the beat downs they put on the Irish back in the day, shutting up the annoying domers till the next year.

The guy that came to mind for me, obviously, was Carsen Edwards. He literally might have made more money his senior year with NIL, coming off that insane NCAA run, than he did as an early 2nd round pick. I think if you’re a guaranteed first rounder you still go, but this adds some complexity to the equation.

I think the G League is the “team” to beat, actually. He’s a one and done at the most, or maybe a none and done.

Painter gives everyone a second chance. And he likes this kid. But, if he already gave Mason a second chance...

Agree on this, if you live around Indy. 99.5% of athletes can get plenty of competition just at the tournaments that go on at Grand Park on weekends. The best of the best come to play here from all over the Midwest and even the country in some cases.

Especially since Painter is pretty tight with Nic’s HS coach.

I actually said Fran “prospect” not project. Looks like a kid he would love. Great handler and shooter, and maybe just adequate defensively. Athletically, he seems fine, he just looks smaller than most B1G guards. Guys built like Isaiah Thompson and Jordan Hulls can tend to get abused on the defensive end. But he is 18 months away from playing, so lot of time to get stronger.

Bob Knight did as much as any coach could have done to run a clean program. A distant relative of mine ran a car dealership in Bloomington, and used to loan cars to players all the time in the 50s and 60s, rode on the team plane, watched practice, etc. Knight booted him as far out of the program as he could, kicked him off the team plane, out of practice, and ordered the players to stay away from him. Though he eventually became good friends with Knight later, he was never a “friend of the program” again.

The man can be entertaining. He was better at analyzing hoops when he stuck to the game instead of trying to be the next Dickie V.

Is Dakich on meds? He seems to have wild mood swings. Doesn’t seem like a bad guy, just a bit all over the map.
