I don't think that was his point.

I think Little was brought to IU's attention.  It wasn't because IU was out there watching a bunch of kids in Finland and looking for one to be worth recruiting.  I haven't seen anyone question the staff's judgment over going after Little.

The questioning was in regards to whether or not it would be worth our time and effort to actively search for another player from Finland.  The more time you spend there (26-28 hours round trip by plane + whatever time is spent there), the less time you are spending in other areas looking for recruits.  One could imagine that the rate of return of spending our time and resources going to Finland could be better spent elsewhere.....unless we get notice again of another prospect being worth going after...like the Little situation.

Time is valuable in recruiting.  Unless you have a known target to go after, I don't see scouting Finland as being the go to strategy.

I didn't say it was....but in the original post on this topic, it was as if it was a waste of time to even talk to Little.  I am not saying send all over resources to Finland, but if we get told about a player, like this...I do think it is worth our time to recruit them.

Not the point at all, but okay.

If the recruiting budget has limits, not sure we should be devoting much to places that produce little talent

I know what your saying…but if Fife and Woodson believes this kid has the goods, we’ll I trust their judgement. There isn’t anyone they’ve brought onboard that I haven’t been impressed with.

In the history of the NBA there have been 3 players from Finland. Not sure we should be fishing  much in that pond

Not comparing the two, and I know he didn’t play college…but not too many Slovenians have made it to the NBA either , but Luka seems to be doing alright. You just never know…or how about Cameroon, you had Embiid, but Pascal Siakim would have been nice to have at IU too.

Gyms for basketball are different in Indiana.  Being from Clay City I am biased, but for a small 1A gym for a school that graduates about 60-70 kids a year its hard to believe they have a gym like they do.  On top of that a couple years ago our school corporation added new auxiliary gyms at Clay City an Northview, the two high schools in the county.  They are the second picture, pretty impressive for a 1A school.

Usually something good, like a commitment. He was only wrong with Strickland I think. Not saying that Bailey will commit, but the emoji seems like a good sign for us

I feel like the Apocalypse is truly getting near….COVID, Purdue #1 in Basketball, and we judge recruits by en emoji…lol

Yes he is.  He also lives with a family that is big on all things “state of Indiana basketball” i coached this person while he was at SB Riley back in the mid 90’s. He now lives in the St. Louis area, and is also a season ticket holder to ND football. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwi7iJH1nv3zAhXbbc0KHV8jDWIQFnoECAsQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FMarcus_Wilson_(basketball)&usg=AOvVaw36ymbvMJBwYaMN2hCme3B5  His dad(Marcus’s dad that is, and who was also a coach at SB Riley)used to travel to IU basketball games with me, and was a huge Bobby Knight fan. He was that way with his son when it came to coaching him with strong discipline…hence why he probably was 91% free throw shooter.  I have no idea how this Bol kid will develop, but he has an excellent mentor in his everyday life now.

Now this is quality input from our contributors!

  7. I agree...the guys who are bringing information to this board are doing the best they can. They aren't just blowing smoke.  Kids change their mind all the time, its not the posters fault.  If it bothers you that much, then don't come here to read about what is happening, especially since you apparently don't believe it anyways.  I am thankful for the guys who give their input and intel into this board.
