  1. I saw on FB that Jon Rothstein reported that Jordan Bohannon was attacked on Sunday morning and received a serious head injury that required medical attention.
  2. Making an unofficial visit to IU in June. https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/2023-in-state-prospect-xavier-booker-is-taking-a-june-unofficial-visit-to-indiana/
  3. My understanding is that GA can act like additional assistant coaches. Looking at the article linked within that article, it seems like they might only be allowed to do that under certain circumstances. UTEP's trouble with GA use: "Additionally, the parties agreed that the former softball coach allowed graduate assistants to provide skills instruction to student-athletes during extra workout sessions, regular practices and occasional competitions. This resulted in the program exceeding the maximum allowable countable coaches in at least four separate academic years, from the 2016-17 academic year through November 2019." Here is what ziprecruiter says the role of the GA is: "How to Become a Graduate Assistant Basketball Coach To become a graduate assistant basketball coach, you need to have many qualifications. You must have completed your bachelor’s degree and meet the requirements to attend a graduate school at the university or college where you want to study and coach. You also need experience playing on a competitive basketball team as an undergraduate. Coaching, leadership, and planning skills are crucial for completing your job duties, including assisting the head coach, leading training sessions, maintaining equipment, organizing meets, and providing training support to players during practice and games. You may also need certification in CPR and First Aid training. What Does a Graduate Assistant Basketball Coach Do? A graduate assistant basketball coach works under a head coach to support a college level basketball team. In this career, you provide instruction to student-athletes by showing techniques and working to improve performance during practice and games. You provide feedback on individual workouts and group practice. You also assist in recruiting new team members and retaining current players. You are responsible for recording video footage, assessing plays, overseeing team travel, preparing for games, identifying skills and weaknesses, and fulfilling other duties as needed. A graduate assistant basketball coach also promotes good sportsmanship, health, and academic balance." So maybe the GA can only help if not all of the coaches are there, like maybe when some are out recruiting. Maybe they were using the GA to get extra practice time with coaching, exceeding the NCAA allowed number of coaching hours. Or maybe there are different type of GA positions and some are non-coaching positions but they used them as coaching GA anyways. This last one seems like the most likely but I'm really not sure.
  4. My issue is with your comment which made it sound like it was an altruistic choice on his part to coach for IU and therefore he shouldn't be criticized. It wasn't an unselfish, charitable decision on his part to take the job. He was paid and paid well to take the job then proceeded to do a terrible job. Criticism comes with the territory and most of the criticism here is fair doesn't even seem very extreme. Besides, it's not as though he'll read these forums and have his feelings hurt. If he does, he can confirm himself with the $20M+ he got from IU for 4 years of poor results. Just because you liked him doesn't mean he's above criticism. If he didn't want criticism here should've done a better job.
  5. He did spend 4 years as the coach of IU, yes, but he didn't "give" those years to IU. They paid him $3.5M for each of them plus the $10M to go away because he was revealed to be a bad coach. I don't feel sorry for him.
  6. Not quite yet. That was Sept 2020 and you're not counting the pregnancy time. Middle of next year they will be able to drink legally, though.
  7. Right now it's not even certain he'll be in college next season. He entered the draft so he probably won't select a school until after (if) he pulls out of that which will probably be around the deadline to withdraw.
  8. The extra year does transfer. The only thing that doesn't transfer is the special case of seniors this year not counting towards the scholarship count if they stayed with the school they played with this past season. So if Durham and Brunk had stayed they wouldn't have counted towards the 13 scholarships but they will with their new schools.
  9. Probably not. ESPN and 247 have him right outside 5* so 35th on rivals would probably move him closet to 5* but not quite there. He'll probably be a burger boy, though.
  10. I also thought they updated the rankings a week or so ago and had moved Bates up to around 5* range. I looked it up and that was ESPN, so maybe that's what you're thinking of too.
  11. I applaud them. I'm glad Miller is no longer there. I just don't think he'd sell that aspect, at least not hard. To a lesser extent also Glass. He did start up some stuff to help the athletes when it the change comes but I don't think he would've embraced it as much as I think Dolson will.
  12. The player might be waiting until the end of the semester. I think most years that is early May. I don't know if it's the same this year or if the semester is already over.
  13. Not at the rivals site, that's for sure. That's obvious because he actually logged on.
  14. You mistake me for an NBA fan. I rarely watch until the playoffs and even watching the playoffs I don't do often. However, that doesn't blind me to the fact that the NBA is much more popular than college ball.
  15. You mean to tell me that the majority of people who post on a forum for a college basketball team tend to prefer college basketball to the NBA? I'm shocked. Shocked, I say. That's a sampling error and doesn't correctly show the opinions of the population as a whole. Scott, we get it that you love IU and nothing else. You also don't care what other people like. We get it. You say it over and over. "I would also say take out all of the NBA cities which is 30 and are the largest cities I would say that college basketball would rank higher." lol, what? That is a ridiculous argument. It's like saying, "If you don't count anyone from Indiana or anyone who attended IU you'll see IU isn't very popular." The NBA is very popular. More popular than the NCAA. It's just the fact of the matter. That doesn't mean NCAA basketball isn't popular, it obviously is. Just not as popular as the NBA. It's funny, you yourself often complain on these boards about how ugly college basketball can be at times and then act surprised and offended when someone suggests it's not the most popular thing in the world. That last sentence.... wow.
  16. No, they publicize NBA stuff because the NBA is popular and people want to hear about it. Because of that popularity it's a bigger deal if the players, teams, or the league itself takes a stance on some issue. Even if they don't, the NBA would still be talked about because it's popular.
  17. Do many people care about the NBA? Simple economics point to yes. Good but not great NBA players couldn't make $40M/yr if no one cared about the NBA. The NCAA is popular but not nearly as popular. The B1G disbursement to the schools is ~$50M. That includes revenue from all sports, not just basketball.
  18. I initially had something like "within what's allowed by the rules" in there and erased it because I'm sure it'll happen regardless of what the rules say.
  19. Yep. This is going to trickle down to the players coming out of HS going to D1 since more spots will be taken by players using their extra year. So more of the borderline players will end up at D2 or NAIA schools and more of the borderline players for that level might end up at D3 schools. This will gradually work it's way back to normal as the current players use up that extra eligibility or move on without using it. I think not every player in the transfer portal this year will find a spot to land at a D1 school. Schools' HS recruits are already signed and there are transferring extra eligibility players like Durham and Brunk transferring and counting against their new schools' limit. I just don't think there's enough scholarships for everyone.
  20. My post there was just a joke but I do think that recruiting through the portal will become extremely important for high-major schools and the low- and mid-major schools will essentially be used for developing and testing players that aren't deemed a sure thing. Players like Braden Smith will likely go to one of those and if he performs well he'll transfer to a larger school. So what I see as likely to happen is that the large schools will actively recruit players like that to establish a relationship but will ultimately never extend a scholarship offer. They may even talk to them about the possibility of transferring to their school later on once proven. I also think that the coaches will maintain relationships with players they like, their families, and/or their coaches so that if (when) they do transfer in the future they have a better shot at landing them.
  21. I vote NCHoosier32 as the next moderator. He shows wisdom like this and a willingness to keep people out of line.
  22. Time to turn the satellite schools' teams into development teams for IUB. Let's get IU guys coaching at IPFW and IUPUI. lol
  23. I'm pretty "meh" on the Kopp commitment but I can't believe that Kopp vs Hunter is even a debate. From what they've shown so far in their careers I'd take Kopp over Hunter all day, every day. Hunter just hasn't lived up to his HS ranking. It could be that after the injury he never will. Or it could be that it's just taking a long time and/or development under the previous coaching regime was poor. So he could improve vastly with time and the coaching change or not. But right now, I'd take Kopp over him for sure.
  24. And Miller tried to sell him on playing like TJD when he was interested in being more of a stretch 4 or possibly 3. Sounds like a terrible sales pitch that was completely out of sync with what the player wanted.
