One has nothing to do with the other. The strength and conditioning takes place when they can’t do on court stuff since they have limited time especially in the off season. I didn’t understand them bringing those pictures up for this game since those pictures were from 4 and 2 years ago.

I wouldn’t necessarily agree with this.  Vic used to toss up thousands of shots a day to improve his game while at IU.  If they are spending tons of time lifting it does make one wonder how much time they are spending on the court improving their game.  You don’t need time with a coach to improve your basketball game.  All these guys should be shooting thousands of times a day in and out of season.

    Yet, somehow in the game.

Yeah I can argue with this, the text IU is in the game and on a run is big.  Get Trace going in the second and drop some shots and boom!  But sure izzo will adjust for the second as well.  Might be fun to watch how this goes at least.

Agree, and will even take it a step further.

We have 8 regular season games left. Four vs ranked opponents and 4 vs what you would deem bottom tier (except Rutgers, they're middle of the pack) Big Ten teams.

We all like to beat ranked teams, looks good for perception and the resume, but the bottom line is IU needs to take care of business against Northwestern, Maryland, Minnesota and Rutgers.

Teams that finish 7-10 in conference lose to those teams. Teams that finish top 4-6 beat those teams.

We've already got one loss to PSU, we can't finish the season with 2-3 losses to the bottom tier.

Take care of those four games and the tournament is an absolute lock. The games against the ranked teams would just be gravy and for seeding.

I just can’t help but think about how the Archie coached teams and even the Crean teams seemed to fizzle out a lot toward the end of the year.  This team is going to win and lose games, but I want to finally see IU get hot going into the end of the season.  Get some momentum into the BIG Tournament and then in turn take that right into the big dance.  4-4 would be great but long term this team needs to take care of business and get hot at the end of the season.  I am really interested to see what Coach Woody can do to make that happen.  For me that starts tonight

Hunter Johnson transferring BACK to Clemson. Wow.

I read he wanted to come back as a grad assistant and coach asked him to play one more and add depth at QB.  I doubt he starts but we have seen injuries change the QB race so much lately.

My way to early prediction. 7-5 best case  scenario IMO

While I don’t disagree I personally would like to know who the starting QB is, reviews on the new coaches, watch the spring game and such before I make a final prediction.  I feel like CTA is already righting the ship in many areas and I feel like the team looked really solid before last year.  Classic IU optimist I feel like this team could be better than this.

But to be clear I would take 7-5 all day 😂

Regarding QB, I’m not going to pretend to be an expert on Connor Bazelak.  But, based on stats, rankings, and a few clips, it’s obvious that he’s further along than Tuttle and McCulley.

Conor has a good completion percentage and good experience.  He threw 11 picks and Allen would probably like to see that cut in half.  But with the good experience he has had, there is a good chance he will get better.  Maybe that 16 TD/11 INT ratio goes to 20 to 6.  That would be stellar and not a crazy ask for a younger guy who is still developing.

I loved what Tuttle did in the game at Wisconsin in 2020 that we won.  But this year, he had some WTF throws and still has an opportunity to get a lot better. I think there is some toughness with this kid.

McCulley is obviously talented but he essentially couldn’t complete a pass late in the year.  That’s when Allen said dual threat meant you have to throw too.  He’s got to learn anticipation, timing, and reading defenses.  I’d love to find a way to redshirt him and let him get bigger and smarter.

Do they let you play in four or less games and redshirt any year, or only as a true freshman?  That would be a heck of an opportunity for McCulley because he has some developing to do.

I am a big Tuttle fan.  Kid played hurt a lot this year and grinded for IU unlike some other QBs on the team.  I think a healthy Tuttle with a good Oline makes smarter passes.  I am very intrigued on what he and Connor will look like.  The spring game should be a good first watch of what the team has.

When I first read this, it seemed like a completely unrelated comment.  After reflecting on it a bit, I wonder If university policies have created the extremely soft loser culture that seems embedded at IU.  Certainly, IU has success in baseball, soccer, women's basketball and swimming, but it seems like the flagship men's basketball and football are just soft and it makes me wonder how much of that softness comes from university administration intent on creating safe spaces and words that don't hurt or offend anyone.  Leaders like Kevin Wilson and Bob Knight were shown the door because they were too hard on kids.  Maybe they were, but a part of me can't help wonder if the pendulum has swung too far the other direction.  Seems like IU has a lot of nice kids and some solid talent but I don't see the fire needed to overcome an opponent having a good day.  I just don't see a team unwilling to accept defeat.

Is Woodson being held back by university policies designed to coddle kids and create protective bubbles around students?  I don't know, but I see disturbing signs that students and athletes are being protected from the harsh realities of a difficult and imperfect world and as a result, don't handle adversity very well when they encounter it.  That was apparent vs. Wisconsin and it appears it showed up in the effort today.  I find it hard to believe that Penn State has more talent than IU.  The only thing I can come up with is that IU has shown a pattern of softness that gives other Big Ten teams confidence that they can beat IU if they stay after it and keep fighting.  They know eventually IU will fold, especially in the absence of a friendly home crowd.  I don't see that being easy to reverse, especially when IU's players live in a soft culture of pronouns, safe spaces and participation trophies.  I hope Woody can create a killer instinct, but I haven't seen that with an IU team in more than 20 years and I don't see it this season either, even in the wins.  I hope it changes and I hope it changes soon, but absent evidence of any real mental toughness, I've learned to temper my expectations.

I will just say this isn’t just an IU issue.  This is a global issue where everyone is being coddled.  You can’t say anything that could be misconstrued or will hurt someone’s feelings.  Everyone gets a trophy and all that matters is you tried your best.  So many no longer work hard to get what they want and instead expect it to be handed to them.  At a college like IU it is exacerbated even more.

It’s a really interesting question to me around coaching at IU and does the university need more grit in its leadership?  Makes me respect what a great job Morten has done.

How many of those are receivers?

    How many have the grades?

How many have the chops for ND degrees?

Outside the top 300? I don't know what planet your from but ND has lost 3 games in the last two years and have been to 2 playoffs in the last 3 years. They aren't looking at a whole lot of players outside the top 300.

They may take a transfer or two if it's a good fit.

This is an IU thread champ, no where in your response did you mention ND and nor does it belong here.  Nice try though.

Yep, that’s how I’m reading it. It would be nice to pick up both Nix and Bailey.

While I have stated I think Tuttle has the tools to be good for IU I am absolutely a fan of competition breads success.  We also have no idea who is going to look best in the new offense so why not have an assortment of options.  As stated about Taylor who is running away I would prefer a player to see that competition and take it head on to drive them to succes.

It's getting late. Close to last call. Only a couple of girls left and the beer goggles are on.

Yep those 55 unsigned players in the ESPN top 300 are clearly last ditch efforts, not to mention the clear talent out there outside the top 300 and transfers still unsigned in the portal.  Dire times…

Deion and his staff picking where they can. Wish them the best of luck!

Was just reading this article yesterday about how Dion and the success of the team has contributed to a $30 million uptick in money to an area of the country that really needed it:

I assume if he commits he would be the starter.

    Would that cause a transfer?

I know people won’t agree but I expect Tuttle to start next year.  If we can get a better Oline in front of him he has the tools to be solid.  That first drive against OSU stands out to me along the lines of what we could see with a better O-line.
