I’ve watched/read a lot in the last 18 hours and this video got me most excited. I didn’t realize Thad Matta was looked at by so many other programs when they were hiring a new coach. The fact that he is coming to IU as an assistant is pretty huge. Think about the wide range of expertise and knowledge between Matta and Woody.....and not to mention AAU/State connections mixed in with legit NBA connections.

I’m really excited to see how the next few weeks play out.

All the Woodson and Matta stuff was great. Solid watch, but any video that ends on “will sink the Biz survive Covid” is automatically elevated to must watch 😆

Before we fired Archie, who I was ready to see go, I said there were scenarios that I thought it would've made more sense to keep Archie.

This is one of those scenarios. I hope I'm wrong, but I'd have much preferred one more year of Archie to this.

I think this is one thing I would completely disagree with.  No one will ever convince me keeping Archie for another year was a good idea.  It was not working at historically bad levels.  I would take this current scenario over Archie staying every time.

  3. Living in Btown my wife and I know a few former players and their families.  All the talk on here over the last few years is real.  All the players have been clamoring for an “IU guy” that gets Indiana.  Dolson just delivered what they have been asking for.

I heard this was real possibility last week and I just blew it off as the same old same old, just like Steve Alford talk was when they hired Archie.  I am still in shock about this.  I truly thought Dolson had a big fish lined up.  This is a license plate the hook.

I know during freshman orientation that us Parents were given a tour of Memorial Stadium.  I know my daughter and all the freshman went to AH for something like a pep rally to learn the fight song and other game day festivities.

That's good to know.  One kid opted out of IU but my next one I think will be heading there.  Maybe we need some social influencers for IU sports, like TikTok videos, that's what the youngsters are hip to nowadays.

That is what you get when you try to get so many put of state kids to come to IU.  Kids growing up in New York or Japan has no clue what IU basketball is all about.

I get that but that's a fact of life now at all universities.  This isn't going away.  IU is more closely a private school now as are most public schools.

And to Iowa's point all the more reason to make sure these students get a taste for what IU basketball should be and can be.

Does IU know what it means to be IU Basketball anymore?  That could be the problem.  We're not selling IU basketball to recruits.  We're selling IU the University with a basketball program.  Big programs like Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, etc... Sell the basketball program and the added benefit of being good universities to boot.

We need to own it again.  We should be marketing it.  We should be pouring money into it.  We're the sleeping giant hoping for an invitation when we should be kicking the door in announcing that we're here.  Fear by the administration is the only thing holding us back.  The Alumni and the Fans are just waiting for a reason to pour money into IU again.  Sell out games.  Send their kids to their school. Hang banners! Dance in the streets.  Chant and sing INDIANA, INDIANA, INDIANA I AM ALL FOR YOU!!

It's all there.  Its all for the taking.  We just have to have the balls to walk into the coaches office we want and make him say yes.  Don't settle.  Don't beg.  Don't bargain.  Don't take no for an answer. Don't be freaking cheap.  Give him the keys to the program, get our of his freaking way and tell him to put us back on the stage.  Hang the next banner.  Conference Champion.  Conference tournament Champion. Elite Eight. Final Four. National Champion.

Easier said than done?  Yeah.  All they have to do it try.  It's literally just money.  Money for New/Better facilities.  Money for Coaches and Assistants.  Money for Equipment.  Money for Recruiting.  Money for Advertising.  Spend it like its growing on your trees out back.  Then if you fail to make it.  If you cannot rise from the past glory.  You can say you tried.  You gave it your all.  You did what was needed and fell short.

I would also lump the students into this.  I dont think many have any idea what IU basketball truly was and what it should be.  The whole atmosphere around IU basketball needs a revamp for them as well and most of what you listed above would help to educate and excite them as well.  But i think it all starts with the coaching hire and can he be that key cog for all of this.

Side note, since you mention equipment, I am still super disappointed they renovated SSAH instead of build something new.  I know that's not popular but I think the program would have been better served with a new arena.  Something unique that still held onto the best qualities of AH but brought the features of something like bankers life into the picture.  Its all part of that vision you are trying to turn into reality.

Time to get Adidas to step up their game as well.  Diversify the uniforms more, offer better and unique gear to fans, its all intertwined.  Best IU gear I have found is not from Adidas or fanatics, but from sites like Home Field Apparel.  Its all part of it.

If scholarships are only one year commitments, that seems fair to me.

I dont disagree, more stating this could be the new norm.  Also wonder if in a normal year with a coach in place how many would be going in.  Honestly if i was not the team start or thought i may not be used to my full potential i would look at my options.  My unfortunate comment was more around us fans having to grab more Tums at the though of losing players we like lol.

Brooklyn better win it in the next couple of years because they won't have draft picks.or salary space to make moves. Salaries of the big 3 are.

    Harden- 40 million

    Durant- 39 million

    Irving- 34 million

I wouldn’t be surprised if Irving is off their books in the near future.  The way he is acting I have read a few articles that his contract could be voided if he continues down the path he is on.  If I was the Nets and KD said he was good with it I would cut KD the moment a lawyer said we could.

The Vid was my main hangout 1997-1999 and it definitely was known a townie bar at that time. I have not been back a single time since graduating.

I have not been there this year for obvious reasons but last couple years it was full of young millennials behind the bar and customer wise.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Buffa Louie's for a good place to grab a bite to eat. FARMbloomington is another really good choice.

And everything that everyone has mentioned in here already is great. Bloomington really has a great food scene.

I got a few hundred wings for my IU football tailgate at my house this weekend.  So good!

So you’re saying The Vid is worse than you remember because it used to be full of boomer/Gen X undergrads... and now it’s full of millennial undergrads?  Lol.  (Btw, undergrads are Gen Z now.  I’m a washed up millennial that used to hang out at The Vid five years ago.)

I don’t think in the late 90’s the majority of the gen X went to the Vid, can’t say that’s the same now for gen Z.  We went there because it wasn’t frequented by gen X and we didn’t want to deal with Kilroys but also didn’t want to go somewhere like the office lounge.  It skewed older back then but sure doesn’t feel that way now.

  12. As someone that went to IU and still lives in Btown the video saloon is a completely different place.  When I was undergrad we would go there to not hit the college bar scene and relax.  Seems when I have gone there over the last few years at the request of some younger friends or children of neighbors it seems to be a haven for millennials.  Definitely wasn’t the Vid I remember.

2021 is incredibly loaded. Maybe not at top heavy as 2007, but the depth of it is unreal

Montgomery (love hes a legit 3 sport star)

    Blackmon

    Hopf

    Sisley

    Lander

    Furst

Kaufman (if he grows more he and Furst could be dominat)

Jacobi (not sure exactly where he fits at the next level)

    Thomas

I don’t think he plays at the IU level but I have enjoyed over the last few years watching Trevor Taylor at Edgewood right here in Monroe county.

  14. Lebron did an Instagram post yesterday and did an @ to Kyrie.  It was a song in the video and it was clearly Lebron making it clear he was good to get back to playing with Kyrie.

As someone posted above I feel like the next CBA the NBA needs to figure out a way to stop this. Not sure exactly what they do and  It’s going to be hard but these small market teams and fans deserve better than to be treated like this.

  15. I don’t think it’s been expressly pointed out in what I have read here but due to the Kyrie trade Boston can’t do anything until July 1st.  I think they have the most to offer but question is is Davis willing to wait and go to Boston?

If AD wants to to Pelicans a solid he keeps it quiet and allows his soon to be former team enough leverage to get all the assets they can.  If I was LA I throw all I can at them now and get AD before Boston as they have the advantage now.  This young kids are not earth shattering.  Vets will sign there for the minimum much like GS.  These next few days will be interesting.
