  1. Fattie on the smoker now: -50/50 ground beef/ground andouille -stuffed with cream cheese, shredded sharp cheddar and diced jalapeño -wrapped in a bacon weave will post pics when it’s done
  2. Sorry, I should have been clear that i wasn’t speaking about you....just in general. It wasn’t my intention to put you in a corner because I personally don’t like that ‘culture’. I admittadley was not paying attention to the conversation about DC numbers, simply because I just don’t care. And I don’t even mind posts made about media in context to a specific conversation. But there have been some posts bashing media that aren’t in context to a specific conversation - posts that are political but under the guise of ‘the media’ - posts that you can’t reply to without getting into political weeds. It’s not that they bother me personally it’s just that you can’t reply to them with out getting your hand slapped.
  3. To clear up my above statement. I think it's very possible, but it's hard when extremes muddy the water. The people who choose to believe the extremes will never believe what is neutral.
  4. I like that idea and will defnitely check it out, but I'm sure with the cynicism out there some will find bias in that rnewscast as soon as they report on something they don't agree with. haha. Reporting news seems to be an unwinnable battle these days, which is pretty sad.
  5. Exactly. Thanks for clearing that up. If you're complaining about CNN we know which ideology you're siding with. If you complain about Fox, we know which ideology you're siding with. Many times lately I've felt that some are fighting under a veil to skirt the rules by making a political statement without technically making one because it's done under the guise of "the media". When one takes this stance you can't argue against it without bringing up politics. To a certain degree it's baiting an argument we really shouldn't be getting into.
  6. Not disagreeing that we need to open up, but I think HH is advocating to do it responsibly and that the virus is going to magically disappear. But I wish your sentiments were as simple as what you stated above. Yes, people should be able to determine the risks they want to take in life.....if those risks they take only affect them. The tricky thing in this whole debate is that one person’s risk may result in another’s death. Multiple people’s risks may result in a bigger cluster of cases. That’s why there’s this huge gray area between our freedom, government’s caution, the economy, and death. Nursing homes have a high degree of deaths. Most nursing homes are locked down, no visitors allowed, PPE always worn and residents are not allowed to leave. This means that the virus is brought in by staff who I’m sure are doing their best to be careful outside of work. My point is that many of these people dying aren’t the ones taking risks. This is where the complication lies. I’m not sure there is a ‘right’ answer on how to handle this...the gray area is too big. I want to believe that plans and procedures are made with the best intentions, unfortunately no one plan is not going to piss off a huge group of people. Understanding this, in a strange way, is helping me keep my frustrations lower.
  7. Sweden's chief epidemiologist backtracks and admitted too many people died and they should have done a better job at protecting the elderly. They had the highest death rate in the world (and wayyy higher than it's neighboring countries) last week and their economy is still reeling despite the lax guidelines. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jun/03/architect-of-sweden-coronavirus-strategy-admits-too-many-died-anders-tegnell?campaign_id=9&emc=edit_nn_20200604&instance_id=19074&nl=the-morning&regi_id=126610192&segment_id=30049&te=1&user_id=a99d32b3606771f67d0b69b76e283990
  8. We had a dog who passed a little over a year. Always preferred my wife. We joked that I was the dog’s bitch because he always cuddled my wife instead of me, but I was the one who cleaned up his crap and fed him. Last year around this time my wife and kids wanted another pet. I was against it because we are gone on so many weekends and I work at home so I’m usually the one taking care of it. I joked and said a cat (even though I’ve never been a ‘cat person’) would be perfect because they are more self reliant, but we couldn’t get a cat because I was allergic. So my wife goes out and finds a Siberian cat breed that is good for people with allergies. 😒 I was skeptical, but the breeder said we could return her in 2 weeks if I reacted to her. Reluctantly I said I’d try it out but I would not be the one cleaning up after her and feeding her. We get her, rub her in my face and no reactions for 2 weeks...so we keep her. A year later, guess who her favorite person is? Me. The only person who’s lap she climbs on to. Meanwhile she ignores my wife’s affection and only wants her when it’s time to eat. Haha. In the rare instance she shows my wife any affection it’s a household ‘event’ that requires getting cameras out for proof she might love my wife. Great cat though; she’s super social, a ton of personality, plays with anybody and just lets the kids manhandle her. A bunch of traits I thought I wouldn’t be getting with a cat.
  9. Thanks, but we have some friends in Greenwood. I told them next time we visit we’re going to 450 North. I’ll get there eventually.
  10. apparently I gotta get to Columbus. 450 North, now this.
  11. Not really a fan of Gose or sours, but I love Founder’s Mas Agave which is a gose aged in tequila barrels. Yesterday I grabbed their Mas Agave with Grapefruit and it was even better. Definitely recommended.
  12. I'd imagine it'd be voluntary. I also read that for it to be effective only 60% of the population would need it.
  13. https://www.forbes.com/sites/brucejapsen/2020/06/02/fauci-modernas-phase-3-covid-19-vaccine-trial-will-include-30000-young-and-old-individuals/amp/ moderna moves into phase 3. And mass production will start. If the vaccine performs well in this trial for 30k people 100 million doses will be available by 2021. If not we’ll have a lot of useless vaccine on our hands. 🤞 Edit/add: I am by no means and antivaxer, but is anybody concerned about the possibility of long term side effects of a vaccine that could potentially be cleared in 6 months. Keeping in mind that many times vaccines are studied for 5 or more years before they are used on the general population? Another thing that concerns me is will there be more pressure to clear the vaccine if 100 million doses were already made? I know we don't have much of an option; just thinking out loud.
  14. Depends on the model. I posted this before, but this will take into account the ‘already infected’ and you can see how it affects the curve. It’s long but I really think you’d like it. https://ncase.me/covid-19/?fbclid=IwAR2t5JFTwvawBliKOVQ4V8cOxiw3FiD9CayyiIM_RY2ozZZaMROiBSHZEPg
  15. A whole bunch of spade edging and laid 6 yards of mulch this weekend. I skipped my workout this morning because my entire body was still sore.
  16. Wow. That’s nice. Ever take it to the track?
  17. Jealous. Loved Torchy’s when we visited Austin last year. My go to in the food court my freshman year was the Potato Ole Burrito. Memories. I can’t do Taco Bell any more. The last time I went there...well...I’ll spare you the details. But when I did my favorite was the Gordita Crunch with the Baja Sauce.
  18. This is all very good to put into perspective. I think there are a couple of factors to why react differently to something like heart disease. Not arguing either way...just diving into the human psyche. 1. Hospitals are set-up to operate at capacity and capacity does not differ that much from year to year. If changes are needed, slow moving trends will help them prepare to meet the treatment demand. We know a certain percentage is needed for heart disease, some for cancer, some for accidents, etc. But when an unexpected pandemic hits like Corona, and there's a spike in hospitalizations that flirts with capacity numbers, people naturally fear if they get sick they won't be able to get treatment. We're fortunate that didn't happen here like it did in Italy. 2. I think another thing that makes people uncomfortable is the lack of control. Heart disease is a slow moving threat. Many times, people are in control of their own fate by lifestyle choices they make and decrease or increase their chances of a longer life-span. It's much harder to control coronavirus and this makes us uneasy. Somebody can not 'give you' heart disease, but they can give you Coronavirus.
  19. I don't doubt that there are studies that cast doubt on the effectiveness of masks, but not that they will "make matters worse" in regards to COVID19. To make things more confusing, a lot of studies focus on using a mask for self-protection, not transmission prevention; and were completed before COVID19 was even a thing. I don't' believe there are any completed studies that actually test masks with COVID19. I was listening to a podcast that summarized many of these studies and there were a whole bunch of factors they are concentrating on: different types of masks, how well they filter a virus, etc., but none disputed the fact that masks decrease the projectile of airborne droplets, which is this virus's preferred method of transmission. But if you are concerned about contamination via touch, I think I'd rather have an asymptomatic person touch their face mask and then test the ripeness of an avocado that I ultimately pick out, rather than coughing directly on the avocado. (a completely unscientific assumption on my part 😀)
  20. I'm still astonished that people still act as if they're being "brave" for not wearing a mask. It's not about being protected, it's about protecting others incase you have it and are asymptomatic. Nobody wants death. Everybody wants to get back to work and get the economy going. My friend was baaaahh'd at (as in sheep) the other day in Target clearly by people who don't understand this premise. Ironically, my friend was wearing a mask as a courtesy to the people baaahing at her. WTF is wrong with people right now? It's simple math. Wearing a mask decreases R or the reproductive rate. If R is lower, it decreases the severity or the chances of another wave from happening. Even if you don't believe a second wave is coming, or the numbers are overstated, or the virus 'isn't that bad', wouldn't it be smart to wear one in public places......just in case you're wrong? Because if the cases go up and we flirt with our ICU bed capacity again, it's not us who will be be deciding to issue another lock down; it will be the government and out of our control. How about we don't give them a reason to contemplate this scenario by being cautious and looking out for each other? The risk reward is in our favor on this one because there is no risk for wearing a mask (other than being a little irritated behind the ears)...it's pure reward!
  21. I just gave up trying to get yellow road paint off the side of my car. Clay bar, WD40, Goo Gone with a credit card scraper......didn't do crap. All the videos on YouTube made it more confusing because you have to filter through the idiots telling you to put god knows what on your paint. Anybody ever done this successfully? Either way, the detailing shop said they'll get it off for $50. Good enough for me.
  22. I have. Usually wrap meat side down with apple juice, vinegar, brown sugar and butter. I mentioned above that I’ve come around back to just 5-6 hours on grill because I like a little bite on them rather than completely falling off the bone. Also, something that I learned last year is that 3.2.1 isn’t for all ribs. Spare ribs are 3.2.1 and baby backs are 2.2.1. If anybody is interested, there’s a Facebook group that I’d recommend joining called BBQ Pitmasters Secrets. A lot of cool techniques and tips are shared by posters who range from casual smokers to chefs and restaurant owners. They’ll get into endless arguments about stuff like putting the fat side up or down on pork butts, but a good follow none the less. edit: @mrflynn03 the 1 in 3.2.1. isn’t for rest, it’s for saucing. You put back on the grill at low temp with sauce. Even if you don’t want sauce, you’ll need to dry them out a bit after the wrap.
  23. For any Margarita fans, I actually found a really good mix available in stores: Owl’s Brew. Best store bought mix I’ve come across. Has a bit of habanero with a nice kick. A bit pricey too at $9 for 16 oz, but well worth it...not too sweet, not too sour...just well balanced.
