  1. Sorry, I must've been confused by what you wrote.... At the time, I honestly don't remember anybody complaining about the extension. But hindsight is 20/20. Whatever though. We can just agree to disagree. ✌️
  2. He got the extension after the 2020 season....not after the 2022 season. And I'll stand by my words: I don't believe you are finding another AD in the country who's not giving him that extension. But again, Dolson got the money. He's not here any more. We are in the Cig era.
  3. A nice season? We haven't been ranked in the top 10 in my lifetime. Beat Michigan. Beat PSU. I'm not sure we are remembering the post-success buzz going around the country about Allen at the end of 2022 as I do. And even if it was a mistake, or too much money: guess what? Dolson got the money to buyout Allen. The wrong was righted without a struggle. It seems like you think we're still stuck with him.
  4. I’m a fan of Dolson because of what he has done for the entire sports program and you can not question his allegiance to IU. He was a student manager under Bob Knight and spent most of his career raising money for and working with the sports program. I’m not sure you could replace him with someone who is as attached to the Donor base and wants IU to win as much as he does. Look at the money that has been raised in a drop of a hat. One does not raise this money if donors do not believe in his vision, and if they are not going to get a return on their investment. Even before he was AD he spent the majority of his career working with IU and was committed to upgrading facilities because we were way behind. The facilities have improved greatly in the last 10 years and is still a work in progress. This is not something that a finger can just be snapped at, getting the money, the planning, and actual construction does take time. I’m not sure how anybody complain how Dolson has handled the facility upgrades - a project is constantly in the works. In fact, multiple projects are. The sports programs overall are doing outstanding. The student athlete GPA’s are among the best in the country. So that brings us to the elephants in the room: basketball and football. Football - After the 2020 season, you could not find me one AD in America that wouldn’t have extended Allen’s contract. My friends and family are big Michigan fans and even they were talking about how they’d love to have him as their head coach. Nothing like recent success inflates the perception of a coach. IU is nothing more than a stepping stone for most coaches. At the time, you MUST make that move. This past year he raised money for the Allen buyout ($20 mil for our football program!) and executed an almost flawless coaching hire. According to Cig, he said ‘no’ the first time, but Dolson went back and got the guy he wanted. Basketball - IF Buckner was really the one to make the Woody hire, then the decision was taken out of Dolson’s hands. If anything, Dolson foresaw the learning curve, went out and hired his buddy Thad Matta and got Dane Fife. If a coaching change needs to be made in the future, I’d want Dolson to be in charge of it. JMHO.
  5. “Quinn Buckner was the man in charge of hiring Woodson; it was not AD Scott Dolson, and that’s an issue as Buckner and Woodson are longtime friends.” How true is that? Did Dolson not get much of a say?
  6. I don't think any of this matters because I don't think Wright is coming out of retirement and I don't think IU will go after Beard. That said, the grand slam hire (aka the brad stevens/Billy Donovan pipe dream) this go round would have to be Wright. He's the whole package.
  7. Yikes. Crean inherited almost nothing. He was playing walk-ons and Freshmen. Back then there was no penalty free transfers. I believe this applied to grad-transfers too in 2008. Could you imagine a team right now lead by Cupps, CJ and Banks? because that's what it was like with VJIII, Pritchard and Danny Moore. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some sort of stipulation in CTC's contract that he deserved a minimum of 4 years to make that team competitive.
  8. Obviously we can not see what would happen in an injury-free parallel universe, but this team has not played well with a full roster either. The problem with these hypotheticals is that it should apply to our opponents too. Would we have beaten PSU with XJ? Possibly, but if we're getting XJ back, I'd think it's only fair for PSU to give back their leading scorer who was also on the bench with an injury. We didn't have Ware for the IL game, but they just got back Shannon was still shaking off the rest. Or would we still have beaten Michigan when they were short-handed? It just opens a whole can of worms.
  9. I don’t think anybody is ignoring that - I just don’t think it’s an excuse. Injuries are reality in sports. A ton of other teams are competing right now without full rosters. The last 5 years we’ve had long stretches without a full team. We always have injuries, which again, is why we should’ve never gone into this season so thin in the back court. Mike Woodson uttering that same excuse early in the week, just got me more angry. Haha. I wanted to yell: then prepare for injuries because they are almost inevitable!
  10. Just make a house on Lake Monroe a part of the package. And a boat. And our souls.
  11. I keep coming back to this. Can Woody own up to and identify decisions he’s made that have resulted in poor outcomes. - Why has our defensive metrics gotten worse every season? - Is trading 2’s for 3’s a realistic formula to win in today’s game? - Why has every roster struggled at the free throw line? - Why has every roster struggled to rebound as a team? - If all the above is related to personnel, then what is the staff’s plan to identify and get the right guys? IF he can’t get these guys, is he willing to adapt/change the system? I’m sure that behind the scenes, Woody is not giving ‘press conference answers’ to the questions above and there is some real soul searching going on. I do not doubt Woody’s love for IU and his desire to succeed, but after a season like this, a probing performance review is imperative. Dolson is a basketball guy. Buckner is a basketball guy too. IU has people behind the scenes, that I like to think can make a fair assessment on the state of the program.
  12. I’m so glad I didn’t watch that live because i got to fast forward through a lot of that crap, but may have missed a few things. When PSU went on that run early on in the second half were any time outs called?
  13. So right on. The team seems to struggle and get stagnant when he loosens the reigns. It's a relatively young team that doesn't have a whole lot of experience playing together - so I get it. They have trouble finding good shots unless a play is called or drawn up for them. That said, this team has been starting games well. For the most part, they come out of halftime ready to play. They do execute inbounds play under the basket decently. They execute out of time-outs decently. However, the further (minutes in a game) they get away from instruction, they seem to dismantle. Sure, Ideally you want a team to be able to think and execute on their own, but if they can't, I think a coach needs to 'hold their hands' a little more and be quicker to call timeouts. Coming from the NBA, I could see why it's not instinctive for Woody to micro-manage players and the game to this degree.
  14. I'd recommend listening to the podcast so you can hear it straight from the horse's mouth. It's hard for me to relay the info without the benefit of context.....or remember what was exactly said.
  15. How so? For the record, I think 2 missed calls per official is supposed to be good - taking into account the speed of the game in real time and all the viewing angles a human can not possibly cover. The conference reviews every game, gives officials constant feed back to make them better, retains good officials and phases out bad officials. Again, these guys aren’t employed by the B1G, they are independent contractors. The NBA has the best officials, but they pay them a lot more. So we, and other major conferences, are getting the second best pool of basketball officials available. I know it’s easy to say ‘get better officials’, but from where? The NBA officials aren’t going to step down to our league. And the the pool of upcoming officials is dwindling because parents in youth and high school sports are a-holes. Haha. Maybe this is the bigger issue. I’ve seen kids and part-time high school officials getting berated by parents and coaches. It’s so f’ing embarrassing. Our high school AD was saying we’ve had to cancel/move games because we can’t can’t get officials on some nights. So many have quit because the $75 a game (or whatever it is) is not worth being a punching bag.
  16. The conference will say nothing publicly. A take away from the podcast is that, tapes of missed calls will be sent to the officials for their review, and if anything needs to be handled, it will be done-so behind closed doors.
  17. Damn, @ledies22 you got me listening to that podcast again. He gave some interesting general numbers at the end that I might've missed the first time. He said in a typical game there's an average of 140 possessions, usually averaging 6 missed calls per game. Approximately 2 per ref. The conference does send officials tapes of these missed calls. Sometimes, the officials aren't even in the position to see the infraction. Typical there's 6 to 7 camera angles of the missed calls; many times only 1 of those angles will actually capture the bad call. Even so, if they see an official is missing 5 calls in a game (for example), they'll sit down and have a talk with him. If it's a pattern, they'll give them less games the next year. Maybe this is what happened to Scrote.
  18. Here you go @ledies22 'Primary B1G officials' mean that they give their availability to the B1G first. The B1G will then fill their schedule with as many B1G games within the parameters of their scheduling rules. B1G and major conferences pay officials more, so it's a coveted spot. And you may surprised to hear, because of this, we are probably getting the better officials in CBB. It's why you often see the 'primary' B1G officials officiate in the last 2 weekends of the NCAA tournament. (The NCAA doesn't just give those games to anybody). starts at 46.00. A lot of other good stuff in here.
  19. There's a very interesting podcast on this. I'll try and find it for you, but from what I remember.... Conferences do have a group of officials they draw upon. However, for example, DJ Carstensen officiated our game vs. Iowa on Tuesday night. B1G rules stipulate that DJ can not ref Iowa or Indiana for X number of their games. (I believe 'X' is 3 games, but i'm not certain). So, because of math, there's going to be nights when he can not officiate in the B1G. But these guys get paid per game and want to make money, so on those night when he's not eligible to ref a B1G game, he may go get work in the SEC or CUSA. Other conferences have the same (or very similar) rules, which is why we may have a ref from the ACC pool of officials on a given night. So, you're right that a group of B1G officials primarily work our games, but they don't solely work our games. And those officials don't only work in our conference. Hope that made sense and I explained it correctly.
  20. I didn't watch the game last night. I've watched both teams play before, and in terms of officiating, there has to be an in-between. Edey clearly gets into the heads of officials. I will admit he's an anomaly to officiate, but that shouldn't be an excuse to let him do whatever he wants to do, and go where he wants to go. On the other side, it's coaches like Collins that are not helping the league. I can't stand watching NW games because their guards get away with hand-checking and bulldozing though screens. It turns into mud pit wrestling. Apparently is was Collins strategy last night if he truly said that they were going to use all their fouls. After seeing that box score, I want to say: good, NW finally got called out on their crap. BUT WHY does the beneficiary have to be PU, who lately, seems to be getting all the calls?
  21. and then he limped away. lol Has anywhere mentioned how Ware is doing? He was holding his upper calf, not his ankle - I was wondering if he was just cramping up. (Forgive me if this was in the game thread; I didn't get to watch live.)
  22. Yep. I think the writing is on the wall. The NCAA can't enforce anything - UNC showed colleges the way. Just wrap them up in law suits and fight with their unlimited resources until it all goes away. It sucks from a competitive standpoint, but in a billion dollar industry where the athlete's are the product, the NCAA can't realistically stop athlete's from receiving money that another party that wants to pay them without running into antitrust laws. When conferences are signing 100 million annual TV contracts, paying coaches millions a year, building multi-million dollar facilities, etc., 'amateurism' is just a spec in the rearview mirror.
