242 guys have declared for the draft.  Clearly a bunch of them are coming back to school.  And every year some of them transfer.  College players who wish to remain eligible must withdraw by Wednesday, May 31.

But have to have their name in the portal before May 11.

Probably 20-25% of those are actually draft-worthy. A number of the others understand that they won't be drafted this year and are simply looking for feedback.  Then there's the Nojel Eastern contingent, who (along with their mamas) are clearly delusional about their talent.  I'm confident that Woody is sharp enough to weed those out of the pool of potential IU offers.

.....So basically, we are also looking at guys declaring for the draft, (keeping their eligibility) with the hopes they they don't get drafted? When this happens, we technically try to lure them away from their original school to come to ours? Is that about it? Hmmmmm......

They have to drop out of the draft. If they stay in the draft and isn't picked they can't come back to college.

That seems to be what I've gathered. Of course I haven't read the last 20 pages or so. Maybe missed something.

Kids keep going into the portal, so you never know. IU may find a gem late in the process. Still, there has to be other considerations on the table including....

* If no dynamic scorer or shooter is available, find a defensive specialist or someone with quickness and a handle. Jamal Meeks never averaged more than 4 points in a season but he did his job and helped the team. Even if you add a player just skilled enough to allow everyone else to play their natural position, it makes the team better.

* Reclass options for next season. No undersized players though. They have to have the physical tools to help next season.

* The easiest answer is to develop the current players. I'm looking for a big jump for Banks that may be exactly what they need next season. Gunn has the quickness and a scorers mindset. He just needs to bulk up. I'd like to see Leal get a chance to be the spot up shooter from three.

To be fair, that theory is merely HSN groupthink. The conversation has steered that way (and it could very well be a possibility), but we don't know if that's actually what the staff is doing.

Some have entered both, the NBA process and the Portal. You aren't stealing players from other teams.

I didn't say anything about the facilities, haven't participated in that discussion.

I also don't need to be lectured on social media - I work with marketing departments from some of the biggest brands in the world. I'm very well versed on the subject.

Again, it's a lag indicator for interest. It's interesting and may or may not mean something with a given recruit, but it isn't the reason we are getting or not getting recruits. Even if 100% of a given recruitment took place via Instagram  hypothetically (following each other, liking posts, DMs), social media isn't the reason we landed that recruit. It's nothing more than a medium for how we are connecting with those recruits. What we can "see" on social media (because we don't see DMs) could mean something (lag indicator) or it could be as simple as guys in the small world of college basketball interacting.

I think it's interesting to know what's going on with regards to social media and hope you keep sharing it, but to be very clear it is not anything more than a lag indicator. You acting like it's gospel is just as wrong as the folks that act like it isn't relevant to even know what is going on.

I never stated half of what you said but sure

Stats don't really move the dial for me.  The highlights look like maybe some stuff to work with but who knows.
